[News] Reports: Matt Elam Arrested In Florida On Drug Charges

73 posts in this topic

Part of me was holding onto hope that maybe Elam could become what he was in college, and before that injury last year i kinda got my hopes up. Oh well.

How much did you watch him in college. As a Florida resident, he was on every Saturday. He was small but on a good defense then. He wasn't even that big of a hitter. Not hard to figure out he wouldn't make it with the big boys.

the Ravens have to do better in talent evaluation, this years pick has to contribute day one. If not everyone has to be held accountable.

Behavior is too hard to predict when drafting a kid out of college.  Like the photo of Tunsil on draft day, it doesn't take much to turn a team in another direction.  Character matters, too.

Now can we get rid of this bum football player?

We don't have to cut him, his contract is up.  Ravens have already announced he is not in our 2017 plans.

This just goes to show how difficult the FO's job is! I watched so much film of Elam and was convinced that he was the next Troy Polomalu type safety. Well, I was wrong just like Ozzie and Decosta (not that they needed my opinion). I'm definitely a monday morning GM! Not because i'm a fair weather fan it's because I'm a die hard fan! I want my team to be competitive every year.

Every offseason at least one Raven does something stupid like this. Recently, it seems like several players each off season. 2014 in particular was terrible, then 2 years later we lose 2 TEs due to bone-headed substance abuse issues. Seems like part of the issue is a lack of player cohesion and Team First mentality. These idiots getting themselves suspended or kicked off the team don't seem to give a darn that their actions are negatively impacting the team. Does Harbaugh just not have much influence or is there a lack of legitimate leadership among the players? Obviously the loss of Elam is not a big deal but the yearly trend of losing players either to suspension or being released because of stupid stuff is disturbing. And there are still 5 months to go before training camp starts. Let's hope this Elam incident is the only one this offseason.

They should have cut his butt last year and keep Brooks another stupid harbaugh idea

Yea, I actually felt the same way but I am sure there was some type of logical reasoning behind it. We don't usually give up on third rounders that easily.

Yeah he was is in harbaughs dog house because of some mental mistakes in Practice

It's been medically proven, drugs mess up you brain, Doing any kind of drugs is stupid. Maybe that accounts for the mental mistakes.

Harbs is not a good evaluator of talent, He inherited the majority of the last super bowl teams. maybe he should be drug tested. He's only has one more chance, with Bisciotti. Hello Cleveland.

Really?! Driving around with 126 grams of Marjuana? That's just dumb man! Why the hell are you driving around with that mutch anyways?!!!

if your stupid enough and rich enough to buy 126 grams of Marjuana then you sure as heck can afford to get it delivered to your destination!

you deserve to spend time just for acting so damn dumb. I'm done defending anything Elam ever does. And whatever it is, I hope he does it away from the Ravens organization.

Put a big S on Elams forehead. Love the analogy.

Just to put it into perspective,  the 20 gms of cannabis is less than an ounce,  and legal in a lot of states.

The 3 gms of oxycodone,  however,  are usually prescribed in 5-30 mg tablets, so that's between 100-600 pills. No way he got those legally, that's some serious weight.

Yeah, he had 126 grams and I'm guessing the cops weighed the oxycodone and didn't count the mg of the pills to get to 3 gms. But anyway you cut it how stupid can you be. It amazes me how these guys can make millions and still open up themselves to getting busted like this. Just sheer ignorance and stupidity.

AMEN

he had 126 grams of marijuana. sad to hear about this. always held out a glimmer of hope. felt like we never used him right and he looked good right before the last time he got hurt again. he was making some nice tackles

Who cares about how much the drugs weigh, THEY ARE ILLEGAL.

Gosh I thought he was a smart pick back in 2013 and was going to be a really good safety like Ed Reed.

I love the message from Biscotti just said he was not in our plans for 2017. That is not a smart decision for a man who made millions over the last 4 years. I guess he was partying in the offseason. Even if it was recreational it is not smart to carry those quantities either.

Actually, the posters were talking about Terrence Brooks being kept over Matt Elam and referring to how BROOKS (not Elam) was in the doghouse & subsequently cut before last season. Follow below:

I may be on the outside but I absolutely do. If your at home and have an occasional lapse of judgement that's one thing. To go driving around with enough Marjuana to supply the whole club is another thing. And that's me giving him the benignity of doubt.

its like two 16 year olds having unprotected sex vs a20yo and a 22 yo vs a 30 yo having an affair with a 16 year old. Yeah they all fall under the same law but one is forgivable and the other is a much deeper problem.

I regularly say this at work with people when they screw up. I can deal with a smart person that makes an honest mistake because heck we all do. I refuse to deal with an ideot because the minute we deal with one problem he finds himself in another stupid problem then another and he/she then ultimately call themselves "unlucky people" or bad luck magnets. No your just dumb to regularly put yourself in bad situations.

in other words, I can find some sympathy for someone who gets caught driving drunk the first time. Il try to convince myself that it was a lapse of judgement and thank god no one got hurt as long as he makes an effort to not do it again. but I can never forgive someone who drives city to city with a 12 pack of beer in the car. It's like "so you planned to drive intoxicated at high speeds for prolonged periods of time"!! That person should go to jail head first because he's so much more likely to screw up more in the near future.

Quite a bit, actually. You saying these things makes me think you didn't really watch him. He had his missed tackles, similar to his time with the Ravens, but he was well known for his big hits and great instincts inside the box. I don't know how you can say you know he wasn't gonna make it. He wasn't projected as a late 1st, early 2nd round pick for no reason? The Ravens used him wrong as he was forced into the FS spot instead of SS where everyone else knew he belonged. He was eventually switched back to SS but it hurt his development nonetheless. I'm not saying Elam ever played well for the Ravens by any means, as his numerous missed tackles were painful to watch, but he did have potential.

One more rockhead that feels that he can do as he pleases and the rules will not apply to him. Looking forward to this idiot being gone. So many of these guys just don't get it.

Man, it's a shame that this is what is getting him released from the team. The NFL really needs to change their policy on Marijuana.

20 grams is hardly enough to supply the entire club; it's less than an Ounce. The laws are old and outdated. We've got people spending 20-30 years in jail on possession charges when pedophiles and rapists are getting out in 2 years - tell me how much logic is actually being used.

A lot of other media outlets are saying it was a 126 ounces, just shy of 8lbs.

Absolutely stupid that people honestly feel that alcohol and cigarettes are less harmful than marijuana. How many people die from each per year? What medicinal value do either of them have? Yet, the government chooses to legalize them, tax them and let them kill who it wants...#wakeupamerica

The drug that ruins lives here is the one that is legal and comes to you from a prescription pad. It's literally heroin in a pill. Money money money.

It was 126 grams the article said more than 20 but didn't disclose the actual amount. Yes that would roll. Idk 300-400 joints and thus the whole party can smoke!

I agree 100 percent that getting high is not like rape or murder. I'm pissed off at Elam because he couldn't just have an occasional joint or fail a drug test like everyone else. He had to drive around with that much Marjuana and he should go to prison just for being that stupid! In court that's called intent to sell. And then he had other drugs to add to insult. I just hope he didn't have cash with him coz that would just put him in a pickle!
