[News] 5 Wide Receivers To Watch At 2017 Scouting Combine

25 posts in this topic

WR class not that deep this year. Given the injury history of Ross(projected mid 1st round) hopefully the Ravens will stick to a pass rusher, even if they have to move up to get quality. Generally not the R's style but one can never tell.

Wish sports writers would lose the word "prototypical". It either means, "having the typical qualities of a particular group or kind of person or thing" or "representing an original type of something that others are modeled on"

So a WR with prototypical height, weight and speed is of average (typical) size by the first definition (nothing special). Or, he has the size that original WR's used to have i.e. small. Jimmy Orr, Lance Alworth were about 6'0" 185 lb.

This Ravens team today needs a ton of work. Really, the only position that needs no attention is the kicker. The ESPN stats show there are three Ravens in the top 20 in all the categories. Zack Orr is now gone the the other two are kickers. Raven fans are starving for a any type of Super Star player beside someone kicking the ball.

i certainly hope COOPER KUPP doesn't have a great SCOUTING COMBINE,and we some how draft UP to get him in the second round,he has intangiables like deceptive speed after the catch,9YAC0 yards.

JU JU sounds good too! hope we draft back in the first and grab a do it all corner/safety/returner in ADOREE JACKSON or DES KING and then a great receiver or a QB like MAHOMES.

Would love to see a bold move like trading up to get Williams. We need play makers. I followed Williams, he is a true play maker.

Zay Jones is what the Ravens need at the WR position, imho.  He is my guy and I'm sticking with him.

Ryan Switzer would be a great addition too as a KR/PR return man, additionally he is a great WR that is a great route runner and he gets YAC.

JuJu is going to be a playmaker period. He is a fiery guy that backs it up with his play. If I need to pick a receiver, I would pick him or Williams from Clemson.

Haven't watched much film on him but Cupp could be interesting in the 2nd or third. He could be a nice reliable possession wr with reliable hands, and deceptive speed, while Breshad works as the deep threat and improves the rest of his game. Then if we could ever get Camp to stay healthy and do work out of the slot. That trio sounds nice to me. I have faith in Breshad. I think at the very very least, he'll develop this year into what Torrey was. A deep threat. Torrey was never able to run routes and Flacco threw a lot picks because of that fact. Breshad is bigger, probably faster, and can pluck some tough catches out of the air, unlike Torrey. He's hungry, he'll get to work. In terms of FA, I'd be stoked if we could add one of the Jets wrs. Their the type we need. Looks like they both might be available for trade or might get cut

Williams is a #1 receiver, but he will be gone before we pick l and we know Ozzie won't trade up. I think the kid from Western Michigan is very good as well, but I think getting a corner or a pass rusher is a more  of a glaring need at our pick. Williams is the only must take kind of guy if he were to somehow be available at our pick(which he won't be.) John Ross is a big time college playmaker. I don't see him having close to the kind of production he had at in college at the next level.

I have seen Kupp play in person twice and the kid can play. He would be a good get in the 2nd rd and a great get in rd3 imo. I have seen Juju play twice in person as well and I love his game. Tough kid, runs good routes and has soft hands. He isn't a burner, but he'd be a good get to go along with Perriman and Wallace. I'd be excited about Kupp or Juju in rd2/rd3.

Nice post, I agree. I think the first pick has to be corner, unless Barnett is there. He's growing on me but I just can't tell if his elite production is gonna translate to the next level. And I don't think any of the other pass rushers are worth taking at 16 at all. Corners look amazing though and we need one so badly.
I'd be incredibly stoked with Jones, Tabor, Lattimore, or Wilson.
Jones is my preference for sure. Then it's a toss up between the other 3. Really hope we draft one of those 4

i would love to see us get Cooper Krupp in the 2nd but i don't think he will last that long he's very similar to how steve smith played and he could make an impact on our offense imo

Still early and his 40 time will determine a lot, but I think there's a good chance he could be there for our second pick. Lot of talent in this draft. We have to add a legit wr in FA/trade, or the first3 rounds of the draft. Otherwise our offense will be puke worthy again

We have several speedster/playmaker type receivers. What we need is someone to replace SSS - I'm thinking in the mold of a Jordan Matthews, a guy who catches 2/3 of the passes thrown his way and can be a safety net of sorts.

I don't see anything special from Matthews, if anything I see an Aiken with more opportunities.

honestly, these WRs are tempting at 16, but i think we need to keep this squad intact as possible, so bringing key & underrated players like GUY & AIKEN are critical, one can easly say we can replace them, but u can't replace chemistry within a team.

Aiken is actually what I'm thinking.  I'd love to have a flat out playmaker, but Aiken over the course of his career with us has caught right around 60% of his passes.  Obviously Perriman was injured last year and this year was really about getting his feet wet, but over the course of his career Joe has had several receivers - Perriman, Torrey Smith, Mark Clayton, Jacoby Jones - who caught 50% of the passes thrown their way or fewer - some of these guys made spectacular plays, but they weren't ever consistent threats.  Now we can talk pass depth all we want, but the thing that stands out to me is Joe, when he's at his best, has 2 things going - 1 is a great year from his tight end i.e. Heap, Pitta, Owen Daniels, and the other is a wide receiver that can be a go to guy when he's in trouble like Mase, Q, or SSS.  I think we're going to have the tight end spot taken care of, but with SSS retiring, I don't know if I trust Wallace or Perriman to be that receiver I was talking about.  If Aiken or someone else can fill that void, I'd take that in a heartbeat.  An elite receiver like a Sammy Watkins or Julio Jones type would be great, but Joe has proven he doesn't need that type of receiver to play well and win playoff games.
