[News] Late For Work 2/24: Ravens 'May Balk' At Dennis Pitta's Salary And Are Mulling Options

Thank you, Qadry. Our WR development has been downright sucky at times over the years. How can Pittsburgh ID so many good quality receivers, while we seem to languish with so-so, or watch them leave once they garner some skills (like T.Smith)? Been wondering that myself for a long time...

Pitta is just one big hit away from retirement. He is no blocker anyhow so his current worth is questionable. Time to look ahead. Many needs on the team and housecleaning is a need to be addressed if we are going tom get going in the right direction this season.

Please, Please release our so called CB Jimmy Smith!!!! Pita is great and does anything we need him to do! Always working hard!

We watch most players leave because they are not worth what other teams are offering. What has Torrey done with San Fran for all that money? I'll answer that- nothing. What did Paul Kruger do? nothing. The list goes on and on. Those were very smart decisions by Ozzie, yet all people want to do is bash him. Fans get too attached to some players and not necessarily because of production, and when they leave for absurd amounts of money, it's Ozzie's fault.

So release the best player by far on the Ravens defense?  Are you perhaps a fan of another team who really wants an elite CB? Otherwise, I don't really think you watched the Ravens play that much because he carried that secondary.

Granted Jimmy Smith gets hurt often but when healthy he plays at a high level. Unfortunately Dennis Pitta will never play at a high level again. He no longer has the speed to get deep, he usually goes down after the first hit and his blocking is horrible. It is time for Pitta to go.

No more than J Smith, always hurt and plays with no desire other than being first in line for his paycheck. You talk about PITA NOT HAVING Speed, then wath the highlights of Smith! Too far back and can not catch up! Release him and free up some salary cap big time. Ozz ie must have a thing with Smith, I believe!

He led the league in catches (for Tight Ends) with 86, but only managed 8.5 yards a catch and 2 touchdowns with 4 plays of 20+ yards and none over 40. Travis Kelce had 85 catches, averaged 13.5 yards per play, had 4 touchdowns and 14 plays of +20 yards, with 4 at plus 40. Based on the way their contracts work out, Pitta will make slightly more than Kelce...seems a bit silly to me. Pitta has lost his edge, and his play-making is showing it. Not to mention the lingering hip worries. Imagine losing him in the first or second game this season...then it's dead money either way.

He is hurt...a lot. I'm torn with Jimmy Smith. He didn't have much production last season, and I know that's just as much about QB's not throwing his way as it is any other factor. But I would almost rather have two better-than-average CB's on the field for an entire season than one elite CB that runs the risk of riding the pine for a good portion of it. I struggle with JS...I like him as a player, but he's like Leveon Bell in my opinion. Amazing athletes, top tier at their positions...but just as likely to be a game time scratch as they are to play.

Just cut him when we get the most cap space. His stats are bad because he has "old 3 and out Flacco" as his QB, but he is just one good hit away from another long, long, long period on IR. Why gamble, let him go and almost all the other worthless TE's.
Trade up and get TE Howard. I know we need CB's, LB's. RB and a QB but Howard would be an awsome start?
