[News] 5 Pass Rushers To Watch At 2017 Scouting Combine

Consistency is what the Ravens strive for and it sounds to me like Derek Barnett is the only one worth a #16 pick.

If Solomon Thomas is available in the 2nd round i would take him but at 16 IMO none of these guys are complete game changers

I'll gladly take Barnett at 16. Anyone that can break Reggie White's sack total is good with me.

There are just not enough top talent pass rushers this year to invest and early (round 1-3) pick on, barring someone legit slips for unforeseen reasons.

They drafted pass rushers last year instead of more secondary players.

Targeting pass rushers before addressing the secondary would prove to me that the F.O. has admitted to themselves that last years pass rushers were not good picks and are ready to move on.

IMHO I think that is not true and the pass rush talk is mostly "time-filler" material only.

Pass rush will always be more effective when you force opposing QB's to hold the ball longer. Period. That happens due to a solid secondary.

If opposing QB's are holding the ball, on average 3.5+ seconds, then we can talk about lack of quality pass rushers.

not sold on any of these guys at 16 but definitely in the 2nd rd aside from tim williams who allegedly failed multiple drug tests. if he indeed fail them than i wouldnt touch him unless he falls to the 3rd or 4th which i highly doubt that will happen especially with jerry jones in the mix. i still feel cb, a menacing safety or receiver should be our pick at 16

If the Ravens could manage to pick twice in the 3rd round, that would be a great opportunity to add one even two of these guys. Maybe a comp pick that might be utilized in some fashion.
I think the Ravens need a Center and to get the best one I feel the Ravens will need to use the #2 pick.
Looks to me that the #3 will be the real tough pick for the Ravens this year. So many important areas may be left to fill after the first 2 are drawn.

I would try to trade Dumervil for a draft pick and his salary.

I wonder will the ravens trade a low mid round pick to say 49ers who are transitioning to a 4-3 defense for say a Aaron Lynch or Eli Harold. I heard about Connor Barwin but he costs a nice bit of change to trade for the others might not cost really that much in a cap charge.

1st RD WR Mike Williams/CB Sidney Jones/DE Charles Harris
2nd RD DE Tim Williams/G/OT Forest Lamp/CB Desmond King
3rd RD C Ethan Pocic/S Budda Baker/WR Dede Westbrook

Trade up for once and get these playmakers!

I hate to rain on the parade, but Williams will not escape the top 10, likely gone by Tennessee at 5.

Sidney jones is a hopeful and Harris might get overdrafted at 16, but the talent is def there.

Budda baker is also going I blow up the combine. He likely gets picked at the end of the 1st or top of the second. Very close to a Weddle / Honey Badger like talent.

Barnett is literally so good that I would easily give up a third to leapfrog the colts because they will likely take him if he makes it there. But if he makes it to 16, no doubt he is our pick. If we passed on him I literally wouldn't watch the rest of the draft unless we took Jamal Adams, Malik Hooker, Sidney Jones or Mike Williams by some miracle instead.

I agree with all that. Someone heavily disagreed with me a week ago or so but I'm not impressed with the pass rushing class at all. DB class is amazing though and that's exactly what we need. Agree about S,CB, or one of the 2 wrs at 16. Like you said, I wouldn't even touch Tim Williams in the 2nd, yet some people want him at 16. Adams is the player I want most in the draft. He is a Raven. If we can't make that happen somehow, Sidney Jones has to be the pick. He's a tough play making corner with ball skills and attitude. Lock down corner. Really hope Sidney Jones is a Raven for years to come. Jimmy+Tavon+Sidney+Weddle+ any other safety would be oh so excellent

Thomas in all likeliness will not be available for us to select at 16, let alone the second round

In Ozzie and Co. "I TRUST"! Keep that "Birds Eye" open for all those hidden jewels and go from there! Our Defense did good last season but if the Offense can't take advantage of all the situations and keep putting the Defense back on the field eventuality they will give up yards and points! 5 games lost because the Offense couldn't get it done! OZZIE AND CO. keep doing what yall do I'm behind yall 100% YUP

Agreed. I think he has the physical stature that the Ravens need. He is a departure from the taller upright duds they have that know nothing about leverage.

Barnett is my guy. In my initial mock draft I had the Ravens taking Cook at 16 because the Ravens are actively looking to add playmakers to this offense to keep pace with the Steelers and others. They also seem confident that these young pass rushers will step up as well, so I still think we might see a offensive splash at 16 with either, Cook, Williams or Davis depending on who's there.

However if Barnett is there it'd be so hard for me to pass on him personally. This guy is a reckoning ball and learning from Suggs for a year would do wonders for him. I think getting into a NFL conditioning program will only add to his burst and he'll be a dominate pass rusher imo. He also sets the edge well enough, but again watching Suggs work for a year should help his game overall. I like him in that Suggs role long term but should be able to fill in opposite Suggs from day 1.

I don't think he'll test well at the combine and there will be some highly athletic rusher who will blow up the combine, so that might actually push Barnett to the 2nd round which is insane imo. However if the Ravens feel his value is towards the bottom of the 1st, early 2nd. I wouldn't mind grabbing a CB or offensive weapon than trading up for him in the 2nd. But I don't think he gets out of the teens personally.

Sidney Jones is a real possibility!

Agree with your assessment on Budda Baker! I'm not sure why many mock drafts have him in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Point is these players will put us in the driver seat for the AFC North and that's all I care about right now!

Folks, I am a Tennessee Vols fan (and a long-time Ravens fan), and I can tell you unequivocally that Derek Barnett is nothing but a winner in all respects. He broke Reggie White's sack record at UT this season (in 3 years), and all of his sacks came in SEC games. In fact he was at his best when the competition was at its best (see highlights from the Florida, Georgia, Alabama games). He has a relentless motor, and never takes plays off. He can drop into coverage, set the edge and rush the passer. But above all, here is what truly sums up his character: When Christian McCaffery and others talked about skipping bowl games to avoid injury, Derek Barnett said no [profanity deleted] way am I skipping the bowl game. And true to form, he went out and played like his hair was on fire. In other words, he plays like a Raven, and is a super character guy. Don't expect him to wow with combine #s (Suggs didn't either). But 13.5 sacks and too many TFLs to count, against SEC O lines, is all you need to know.
