[News] 5 Cornerbacks To Watch At 2017 Scouting Combine

22 posts in this topic

since the CB class is really deep and really good, the Ravens might want to wait till the 2nd or even 3rd round to draft one. There is more than one hole to fill and if an elite pass rusher or ILB drops to 16 they might consider taking him.

take ILB Foster in the 1st if he drops to 16th, then go DB rounds 2 and 3. can add some depth on pass rush and maybe WR in later rounds.

I usually complain about us trading back, but this year it might make sense. I feel like this is a deeper draft, and an extra second rounder could help. I think there will be a lot of good choices at 16 and even down another ten spots. But I'm an amateur - what do i know?

Take TE Howard or ILB Foster in the 1st, then go for 2 CB's and a RB/LB. "TRADE UP and TRY to get quality players. Use the 5,6 & 7 round picks as bait to move up. We would be better off with rookies that can start, we have plenty of bench warmers we don't need.

Take the best CB available at 16. Certainly expect that one or more of these guys will be available. They have got to be better than Sharice Wright or Powers played last year.
Take the top Center at #2, take a Safety or Pass Rusher at 3/4 and then a WR, Guard and DL to finish out.

Lol worst possible logic. But it wouldn't surprise me. After round 1 we likely go from probable pro bowl locks to a handful of very good and solid starters, then you have project corners in the third that are not likely to be plug in and play starting corners which we need.

Only ILB worth the 16th pick is Foster and he will likely be a top 10 pick because he is a legit top 5 player.

Edge rushers and their skill sets are more likely to be more valuable for us in the 2nd as well because after Barnett and Thomas, there are a lot of question marks for the rest of the top guys like Charlton, Williams, Walker, McKinley, and Anderson.

I don't know if I believe that Humphrey is unlikely to be available at 16. He has all of the tools and will likely grade out well at the combine, but his coverage skills at Bama were inconsistent.

Analysts love him and I think he is a solid comparison to Jimmy Smith, but his coverage skills aren't as refined as Jimmy's coming out. I think he is very likely there at 16.

Top corners to target:

1.) Sidney Jones is likely the best all around corner once you factor in longevity and health concerns, but I think Lattimore still goes first and Jones might still be there.

2.) Quincy Wilson is an enigma. His tape is impressive and his frame is ideal for our kind of corner to compliment Jimmy, but the combine will show how fluid his hips are and whether he will have enough speed/ agility at the next level.

3.) Marlon Humphrey has so much potential and if he improves his technique then he could be a beast. Super aggressive and surpringly fast. He is very competitive and that will fit the Raven bravado.

Round 2 targets;

Tre White

Gareon Conley

Jourdan Lewis

Im not touching that diva Tabor though.  He has a variety of issues, including being far too grabby. While he might pull it together, we simply need someone that is ready to work hard and get the job done early.

No need to worry about ILB in rounds 1-3, they drafted KC last year and he had the entire year to learn the system and new position.

Round 1 - Best CB available, unless a rare talent drops for unseen reasons
Round 2 - S Budda Baker, he's a real ball hawking safety and is fluid and tracks the ball extremely well (also sets up a good young core with T Young for the next several years) + Return man and moves to boot (Reed-esque)

The Ravens could fill a variety of needs, but I do think corner should be a priority. My reasoning is that for one, the ravens secondary has not been good in years and having another good corner opposite to Smith would be something much in need. Also, the Ravens are never in great cap space, so signing a great corner in free agency just isn't going to happen due to how highly the corner position is valued. In addition, even though the draft is deep with corners, I do expect a sharp drop off in talent by the time the second round roles around. So again, it may prove prudent to draft a round 1 corner, even though it may not be the best player available.

I like it. Relying on KC or not, I would never take an ILB early. I think the cb safety combo and Baker there though. I just also really like the idea of getting the LSU or Ohio State Center in the second. There's a lot of talent in the first 2 rounds

Going ILB early is such a waste imo. Foster isn't even close to sniffing Patty Willis or Bowman levels. Solomon Thomas is the only pass rusher that would be worth consideration at 16 imo.
No way we can wait on a corner. It's what's been holding the ravens back for years. Because the corner class is really good, doesn't mean they'll be really good corners available in round 3, or maybe even when we pick in the 2nd. It means they'll be one available at 16 that might normally go top 5 in a lot of drafts. Esp. with all the talent at the top of this draft. They're going to fly off the board (8+ cbs in the top 40 picks imo) and we can't wait and then settle for 2nd tier corners, or ones with "potential". I still remember how much "potential" they were saying KC had when we picked him, and Elam, and AB. We need a lock down corner. Period. We have to beat Brady and Ben to get to where we want to be. Yes the lines and pass rushing is still where it all starts, but the bottom line is it's a passing league and if you team doesn't have play makers on the outside, at wr and cb, you won't go all the way. When Jimmy goes down, aside from our 4th round rookie, we had just about the sorriest group of corners in the league. Led by SHAREECE WRIGHT! NICE HARBAUGH

I think Sidney Jones is the best corner in the draft. I think he's a big time play maker that plays with attitude. Probably won't be tough for him to add a few pounds. I think he'll get picked between 10-20. I really really hope we get him. Humphrey and Lattimore are faster I think which'll bump them up most boards over Jones, but Jones is the best Corner I think

Really think we need to pull the trigger on a CB at 16. We need play makers and leaders on defense. Jimmy Smith can't seem to stay healthy for a whole season, and the talent really drops off a cliff after him.

Quincy Wilson and Jalen "Teez" Tabor would be my picks for QB. These two have ridiculous closing speed and quickness.

The good news is that CB/S is a strength in this draft.

Other teams need running back, QB and linebackers more than CB. Ravens will have their pick. They should not be able to screw this up in the first round.
