The Wise Old Owl Mock

5 posts in this topic

I know that we are trying to upgrade our run game. However, the NFL is all about passing. Our secondary must come first not a running back in round1. Just look at how Ben carved us up in our last game with "them" in the fourth quarter. Here's my mock for you caw's out there:

1) Sidney Jones-DB...He can play the outside and vastly improve our secondary.

2) Ethan Pocic-C...Improve our run game with a big-bodied blocker...also an ex-captain.

3) Jaleel Johnson-DT..If BW doesn't sign a reasonable contract with us then we move on.

3) (Comp) Zach Banner-G...Another road grater/big boy for our run game. Him and Stanley next to each other will be unstoppable.

4) Marquel Lee-ILB...This guy can play. We found a replacement for Zach Orr.

5) Ryan Switzer-WR...He can return and play slot receiver. Our return game kept us from good field position all year long.

6) Bryan Cox-DE...Might be a project.

7) C.J. Beatherd-QB...Can groom him as a back-up.

Thoughts?

I really like Jaleel Johnson, but I don't see him a replacement for Williams, that would probably be Pierce. Johnson would be more of a replacement (and improvement) for Jernigan if he leaves after his contract year. He could be a stud 3-4 DE.

I don't think Switzer will be around in the fifth round.

I'm a big fan of Marquel Lee and would happily use a midround pick on him.

I'd be happy with the first four rounds of this.

I love Sidney jones. Pocic looks to be a great player, but I hope he continues to win leverage battles in the pros like he did at LSU. If we got those two it would be great.

Def would need to address pass rush early though. At least by the third

I'm a big Iowa Hawkeyes fan.  There is no way in my mind Beatherd will ever be a successful NFL quarterback.  He is a heck of a competitor, but WAAAY too inaccurate.

Love Sidney Jones, he's my top CB in the class and I always make him our pick in my mocks.

Pocic looks good, but I don't think he'll be playing right away unless Wagner leaves and Pocic needs to play LG. I don't see him unseating Zuttah as the starter at center.

Haven't watched Johnson yet

Don't like Banner at all, he was terrible at the senior bowl and at 6'8" he's not playing guard in the NFL, he'd get manhandled, he's known to have lots of trouble getting out of his stance and on the interior that's a death sentence.

Marquel Lee is getting a lot of hype lately and I'll be honest, I'm not really a fan. From what I've watched I don't see a guy that can do very well in coverage and that was Orr's biggest contribution - and a big reason why Mosley did so well this year since he wasn't tasked with being the primary coverage guy.

Switzer shouldn't be around in the 5th, people love him as a slot receiver - myself included - and he should be gone by the 4th, maybe even sneaking into the 3rd because he's also a fantastic punt returner.

I like Bryan Cox, from what I've seen he's kind of your dirty work guy, he won't be a big name but he'll be the one to round out the unit a la Jarrett Johnson

Beathard won't be available in the 7th, just look at last year's QB class, they all went higher than expected and Beathard is a good prospect at QB. I'd honestly be surprised if he's around come the 6th, let alone the 7th.
