[News] Zach Banner Is Massive, But Is He The Next Bryant McKinnie?

37 posts in this topic

The 6-foot-8, 361-pound right tackle out of USC has been on a quest to lose weight, and is still looking to drop another 25 pounds or so by the NFL Scouting Combine. If he can stay in shape, Banner can dominate.

I wouldn't touch him tall tackles weighing this much don't generally last too long at tackle, they get moved to guard, because they get exposed out in space with quick DE's/LB's. He could be a mckinnie, Aaron Gibson type that we can't afford to be protecting Joe. We got a dancing bear in Stanley we don't need a blubbering whale at right tackle.

The draft is a Crap shoot anyway you look at. If he is still their in the third round I'd say take him. As for Mckinnie, He did have that great run in the 2012 playoffs. As long as Banner performs that's all that counts.

Makes he happy they drafted Ronnie "Rico Suave" Stanley last draft.

Thing that comes to mind was McKinnie was only at his best when everything was on the line, which is good, but at other times he literally just didn't seem to care enough, either about himself staying healthy or staying motivated to play to his potential. It was a night and day difference.

i say try to draft banner, but a clause in his contract that would motivate him to stay in shape.... i think we should worry about extending kyle and B.Williams--- let wagner and aiken go.

If they are looking at O line help start at the center position. Our center always got pushed around, couldn't help in opening even a small path for RB's.

I would like banner 2-3 round for RT and GREG PYKE 6-7 round, a baltimore native at center he's very good at driving D-linemen off the line

I felt like McKinnie could've been so much better than he was but it's not fair to say he "held his own" helping the team win the Super Bowl. In fact he was downright dominant down the stretch and if Joe didn't have the confidence he had in Bryant he probably wouldn't have played as well as he did

Unless Banner can lose about 30 pounds and keep his weight down, I think he will be a disappointment at tackle in the NFL. He got beat several times in the senior bowl, and he looked slow-footed at times. If we switched out of a zone blocking scheme, he could be a dominant mauler at Guard but may still have issues in pass protection (kinda like Ducasse)

Banner would be an interesting project if he were available at our 3rd round comp. he apparently is very competitive and isn't lazy like McKinnie was. He comes in between 330-340 and continues to work on his foot work and he could be a tank in the run game, if he's too clunky at RT he could be moves inside to guard if Lewis is the better option--I have 0 faith we will sign Wagner lol.

If Wagner is so good, why was he mentioned more last season? Why didn't he win the RT job outright? He has not distinguish himself as a starter. We have all these potential player that don't pan out.

I'd put my money on Brandon Williams, we know what he can do.

How many projects had in the past, who didn't pan out. I would not use an early round pick on Banner, 6 or 7th round, maybe. It like the D-lineman from Alabama, who was over 350, he could move or be motivated, plus he was an animal abuser.

"...but he’s ultra-competitive and loves the game." This right there should be one of our key traits to look for at least in the next couple of drafts.

With SSS gone, we've seriously lost our edge and desire to win. Outside couple of veterans like Suggs and Weddle, I haven't seen much fire and passion in the demeanor of our other players, especially younger ones.

The general attitude seems to be something like "If we win, it's great! But if we don't, it's not that big of a deal!".

Very little passion and competition is displayed on Sundays.

I would use a 4th rounder on him. I would put him at LG. Put a clause in his contract, to keep his weight under control. His father was a good player, which I thinks helps him with motivation. I would take a chance, but at G.

That's what you get when the roster is loaded with "roster fillers"

How about we just nail some early round picks for a change. Can't take anymore Arthur Brown, KC, Elam type picks. They eventually catch up to you which is why we are so mediocre now.

And roster fillers is what you get when you trade back in draft to skip on the likes of Myles Jack, Noah Spence and Sterling Shepard, and then draft KC.

It seems our FO makes one brain-fart of a decision after another. Can't wait to see on which impact players we'll skip this year just so we could hoard draft picks to use on more mediocre roster fillers.

Yeah you're right.... Myles Jack who had a whole 24 tackles his rookie season... Noah Spence who only had 5.5 sacks while Matt Judon the team's 5th round selection got 4 sacks almost as many behind Suggs and Dumervil most the season.... And Sterling Shephard a #3 receiver.

Think of the selections the team got while trading back... Kamalei Correa may not be an immediate impact but look at the 4th rounders the team got in return that DID have a huge impact. They wouldn't be in Baltimore if not for the trades.

Matt Judon was a 5th round pic obtained by trading back and not picking Mack. Just saying.

"why was he mentioned more last season" Nobody is perfect. Also, at a certain point Yanda moved to the right side and he had Ducasse next to him. That can cause some issues with assignments and chemistry.

Good option pick if - 1. The Ravens BPA for a need position 2. Wagner doesn't stay around. 3. Banner stays live till pick 3, 4 or deeper for the Ravens fold.

CB, CB, S or Pass Rush, seem top #1 and #2 al. BPA
WR, OL, LB second tier

Considering they're both awesome. I would have to take the Tackle too. I think NT is easier to replace than Tackle. Right or Left. Not to mention we have Pierce
