[News] Iowa CB Desmond King Says Ravens Are A Perfect Fit

59 posts in this topic

The Iowa cornerback notched a staggering 14 career interceptions, including eight in a junior season in which he won the Jim Thorpe award for the best defensive back. He had a tough time with some speed receivers at the Senior Bowl and measured in at 5-foot-10, 206 pounds.

Wow! He said that? He said he liked the Ravens? You ask a player that wants to be drafted and what exactly do we expect them to say? No they're a crappy team so i don't want to go there>

Would be a good fit for us. He's a zone coverage guy, rather than man coverage, and we play a ton of zone coverage. Smith-Tavon-King-Weddle-Webb nickle package looks pretty good. And our resident guru Mr. All-Universe GM/Scout/HC says he's Darrell Revis and we should take him the 1st Round.....lol

yes we play a lot of zone coverage that's why were not in the Playoffs again this year because we get torched we should mix our coverage some zone and more man with safety over top guys like brady pick zone D apart that's why the steelers are home now

if he wants to play 10-12 yards off the receiver than he is 1000% correct that the ravens are a good fit

IF they do draft King, my guess will be to play Safety. Corners playing outside need to be able to cover speed or get exposed/rely heavily on the back end to keep a lid on things. A ball hawking play maker added to the secondary with a great vet in Weedle and Webb to learn from could be a big positive moving forward. It's not the easiest position to play, as a good QB will get the best of you, pulling you out of position and baiting you.

Not much point drafting King to play any other position really. Young is a great young talent to play nickel and sometime flex outside (because of his speed).

Still like the idea of a Quincy Wilson, who is at least physically another Jimmy Smith type player. That would greatly help on the outside and solidify the secondary opposite Smith.

I worry about guys with speed questions playing CB. We can't keep Jimmy Smith on the field so this guy might wind up being our #1 CB and if he can't deal with top flight speed in college, guess what, in the NFL that speed is even greater and there are more of those guys.

I do think we need a physical, press/zone type player but we've seen what having a lack of speed does. This team was destroyed by big plays late in games and it was a recurring trend for the past few seasons.

Taking a guy that played CB all his life and moving him to safety as your 1st rounder is a big gamble. If it was a lower pick I would say go for it, it is worth it.

Not saying he's a bad player, I just personally think we need a speedy guy that is AGILE and not falling on his butt every other play like some other guys we have. It would also be nice to have a guy around 6'1'' or 6'2".

Got to have CBs that can cover if you're going to play man. You want Shareece Wright man on man with Antonio Brown or Julian Edelman? No thanks.

Brady picks every team apart.....

No No , only consider King in 4 or 5 round, this is the year to find Jimmy Smiths Partner for lockdown CB , Wilson or Tabor in Ist and Name to look for 3rd or 4th round-- Rasul Douglas (WV) 6'2" 204 A JSmith clone?

King is a football player. Period. He will be versatile, but no he probably shouldn't be put on an island. Use safety help over the top and he could be fine. We could use him at FS or SS too, especially in nickel or dime packages. I wouldn't take him in the first, but I'd easily move up in the second.

The Ravens need a more consistent pass rush and inside pressure. Defensive backs will always benefit from that. If QBs like Brady and Big Ben have time, they kill you. You can only cover for so long. So if the QBs are getting off their spots and improvising, so are the WRs, and there will be opportunities for big plays. So whether we go for that top rated CB or not, we have to find ways to pressure opposing QBs. Our edge rush was dismal in 2016.

We just need play makers because the Ravens can't even sell jerseys anymore ! The Sun reports 17 qbs in the top 50 jersey sales, but not Flacco ?

LOL. Now you put he's a good fit for us! On earlier posts you put he can't cover outside or in the slot and has to play safety! Now he's a good fit for us?? You truly are hilarious. And yes, I said "he IS Revis". funny how you change what I said. I said he reminds me of Revis, as in he has similar parts in his game. And I stand by that. I'm aware he's not as fast as Revis was. No player IS another player. lol. And yes I stand by trading back into the first round in the 20-30 range to grab him, after picking at 16 as well. I don't change my stance. This is what I've been saying for weeks. Anything else?

Wilson is my favorite corner in the draft. Then probably Tabor. I'm praying Wilson is ava at 16. If he is, and we don't take him at 16.......it would just be ridiculous.

I disagree about King though. The guy is a stud. No way he lasts past pick 50 imo. I think he'll be taken well before that too

He's projected to go in the 2nd. No way we should take him at 16th. Too early.

Seriously!!!!!!!! PItt would snatch him at 29 or 30 in a heartbeat. That would SUCK. It would be a guaranteed pick 6 a year vs us

A 5'10 CB that can't keep up with speed receivers at senior bowl a 3rd rounder at best

With good reason flacco needs to stop being afraid and light it up like he did against Miami soon as your back foot hits throw the ball receivers do not need to be wide open ball placement joe

Too bad we won't draft the kid- Oz and DaCosta have amnesia on the cornerback position for the first 3 rounds of each draft

we need at least 2 cb.s in this years draft

I just hope the Ravens take a CB and not think Young and Smith are the answers going forward.

I would rather go down swinging as far as wright goes he shouldn't even be on this team but I still would have maned up in TIGHT coverage on 3rd downs and gave shareece wrong safety help
