[News] Late For Work 2/3: Ravens 'Should At Least Inquire' About WR Brandon Marshall If Cut By Jets

5 posts in this topic

I like the idea of Brandon Marshall, as he sounds exactly like what Ozzie and Eric referred to in recent interviews. Joe seems to need a veteran he can trust to catch those 3rd-and-7 type passes.

I hope that they are able to restructure Mike W for a few more years. Seemed like that 2-year contract was always meant to be a one-year "trial period" kind of thing, to see if he still had the mojo. So now that we see he does, let's lock him down for a solid 3 or 4 year deal - not top money, but maybe top #2 receiver type money.

Finally, let me repeat my prayer for a pass rusher to be drafted in round one!

B-Marsh is the possession WR we need. You have to wonder if he wants to play in Baltimore after another mediocre season. That Mckinnie post was nice.

Wallace is making $5.75M in 2017, so that's definitely in the #2 WR price range already.

This issue I have with extending him is that he's pretty much just a speed WR, and he will be 31 at the start of the season. So if you're extending him for another 2-3 years or so, that puts him in the 33-34 year old range when his contract is up. I'm not expecting much production in terms of speed from a 33-34 year old WR, so to me, it makes much more sense to keep him this season as is and let Perriman and Moore get another year of development as your downfield threats.

To me, an extension is committing more years to a player who I would expect his production to fade dramatically over the next few years, and you're not reducing the current salary cap number by that much.

Even on a reasonable extension, you're still looking at a 2017 salary cap hit of at least $5-6M, which means you're only freeing up like $2-3M.

If I'm the Ravens, I'm either cutting him or keeping him as is. I'm not doing an extension.

Releasing Wallace would be an unwise move until Perriman can show 1)he can stay on the field and 2) he can be a highly productive receiver. Wallace proved that without any doubt whatsoever and only became frustrated when Flacco couldn't get enough time to go through his progressions or chose to drop it off because he was scared. With Camp, Perriman and other unprovens, Wallace and Marshal would go a long way to helping Joe and keeping receivers on the field. If Flacco can keep his eyes off Pitta, we could have a good TE group as well.
