[News] O.J. Howard Is A First-Round Pick, But He's No Ozzie Newsome

13 posts in this topic

The 6-foot-5 tight end was underutilized in Alabama’s power offense, but his athleticism and playmaking in clutch situations make him a possible first-round prospect. He stood out at the Senior Bowl last week.

Ever notice when people get old they collect things they don't need?

We are not going to utilize his talent w/ Flacco. What is the point?

Yea Flacco always has horrible relationships with TE. He never gets them the ball. SAID NO ONE EVER

Maybe we can hypnotize Joe and make him think that all of our recievers are TEs. Or better yet that all of our WRs are Dennis Pitta. Spread the ball around a bit.

My only problem with a Howard pick would be we have like 5 TEs. Even if we released 1 or 2, still have 3. Pitta,Watson,Boyle,Gillmore,Waller.

Much more prefer the Pass rusher, ilbr at 16. Or Cook rb
I have seen mocks that have Ravens landing Reuben Foster ilbr 16, A beast replacement for Orr. Imagine 2 best ilbrs in Bmore.
Ive seen Cook at 16, a gamechanging rb. I welcome that.
Ive also seen Nick Barnett a Elite Edge Rusher. Id be cool with any of those.

A slew of others too like CB,Pass rushers but especially those

Sure we can. Have him put on 60 pounds and play right tackle to replace Wagner, and occasionally run a tackle eligible just to keep opposing defenses on edge.

I agree with you on how we should spend our 1st Round pick - Cook, Foster, Davis, Pass Rusher, CB - basically the BPA. 2nd Round has to be a CB, if not taken in the 1st.

But all of our TEs have serious question marks. Watson is old and coming off a major injury (might be a salary cap casualty). Gillmore is coming off back surgery and torn hammy - seems like he has more surgeries than catches....lol. Waller has bricks for hands. Boyle is more of blocking TE. That leaves Pitta & Mad Maxx. Pitta showed his good hands but he's clearly lost a step and the elusiveness he once had he's more Dallas Clark than Tyler Eifert.

We need playmakers on both sides of the ball, period. We have some good talent and potential in Perriman & Dixon but that's about it. Even on defense, our best guys are Suggs (old), Smith (injury prone), Weddle & Mosley. No game changers. We have a solid and deep roster but no Bell, Brown, Julio, AJ Green, Gronk, Zeke types. A solid, deep roster gets you to 8-8, playmakers take you to the play-offs.

I can't see taking a TE in the first round for this team despite the fact that I think there will be an opening for one. Watson will probably be cut, Pitta I can't see sticking around despite his contract, Gillmore may not be able to get on the field, Waller is a bubble roster guy simply because he can't catch, and that leaves you a banged up Maxx Williams, a block first slow footed and 2x PED popped Nick Boyle.

TE is not exactly the position you think of when you think of game breakers. Now, there are some of those one in blue moon type players like a Tony Gonzalez, an Ozzie Newsome, a Gronk, a Shannon Sharpe, but to draft a TE this high he's got to be one of those kinds of players. I don't know if Howard is that.

We didn't have a whole lot of trouble with short yard passes, we couldn't get much going down the field.

having quantity is not quality. please stop saying we are DEEP at TE. they are JAGs(Just Another Guy) for minicamp. we need to get younger and more talented in all phases of the team. If Howard is the BAP at 16th, so be it.

I don't really know if we can afford to draft Howard. We have so many critical needs on our team, especially on defense. But, if he can become the next Gronk, I say we must go for it. Just like I say if Fournette falls, we must draft him. The reason is simple, while we need a stud DE and CB as well, we need big time playmakers on our team. We don't have any on offense right now. All are average or unproven at this time. So, if Howard fits that bill, why not a TE? If he is the BPA when we pick and he's high on our board we can't ignore him just because we have a bunch of unproven or average TEs on our team.
