Boom or Bust prospects

21 posts in this topic

Thought this would be a fun thread and there seems to be a good amount of these boom or bust prospects this year. I have a feeling safe picks will end up in this thread too; if thats the case then I'll just change the title a little. My boom or bust prospects are:

Jalen 'teez' Tabor CB UF:

He's got all the skill set and cockiness to be a lockdown corner in the NFL. His ceiling is as high as youl see from a corner. Quick feet, loose hips, and ball skills. The problem is he gets too aggressive way too often, and his character seems to be a little issue (fighting with teammates) not sure how he'll take coaching, his effort is another issue. High ceiling guy but extremely low floor.

Takkarist McKinley OLB UCLA:

RAW! He has all the athletic traits you look for but he just hasn't learned the nuances of the position. I think his character and work ethic keep his floor at a decent level but his potential is what tips the scale.

Marshon lattimore CB OSU:

I hate to say it but I think lattimore has a low floor. Everyone here knows about his potential but with only one year of starting experience after dealing with 2 years of injuries you have to wonder if those injuries will have an affect on his longevity. His ceiling is so high that you have to take into account where his floor stands and at this point that's a big question. How low is lattimores floor?

Who are your boom or bust prospects?

Lattimore comes back to the traits once again.  I couldn't care less about his experience, because so many facets of his game are already developed.

I was just questioning his injury history. He had 2 injury plagued years prior. I was just trying to create conversation on him.

I think my biggest boom or bust prospect at this point would be David Njoku from Miami. I think he goes Top 15 because he'll put Vernon Davis numbers up at the combine, but I think he needs some development to become a significant weapon.

Boom or bust? Hmmm

Tabor is certainly right at the top. As you stated he has the frame, speed and ball skills, but a lot of his game is flawed. He doesn't always play the ball on quick passes. He often just puts his arms up and try to read the WRs body language. He is very grabby downfield and unless he gets a Shermanesque rep where refs won't call it, he will be a flag magnet. He refines those areas and remains semi-aggressive, he could be a Peters like corner.

Peppers is at the top of the list and it will all depend on the team that drafts him. A creative coordinator or coach like BB, Carroll, Quinn, among a few others will make him a scheme guy that can play to his strengths. If he runs a sub 4.5 40 then he might just be fine at safety, but he is too small for a pure lb role.

I think Jarrad Davis the LB from Florida is one of the bigger boom or bust players. When he was healthy this year he was a beast, but he did miss a lot of time this year with injuries.

I totally agree he is going in the first round.  He is going to be special.  He's a [profanity deleted] athlete.  Has size and speed.

i see Tim Williams as a potential bust and not for lack of talent.  He is just a suspension or two or three waiting to happen.

Alright so everyone's pointing out the guys at the top. All the talent but the flaws that could make them bust.

What about the later round guys who have crazy upside??

Im not a huge college football fan so I've just started evaluating prospects over the past month or so (since the Ravens season ended) and am looking for more lesser known guys that have huge upside.

What say you Ravens fans? Who are your diamonds in the rough potential late boom prospects?

Meant to say he's a hell of  an athlete when referring to Njoku.  Lol

not sure why the word I'm using keeps getting turned to profanity deleted when I'm not using profanity.  Lol

I know he was discussed a lot last year, so he might not be a diamond in the rough, but I think Travin Dural will outplay his draft position, assuming it sticks where it's at now.  He hasn't put up big numbers but I don't know how anyone could with what LSU has been trotting out there at QB.  He's going to need some development to turn into a more well rounded WR, but I think he could be a big play guy early in his career.

Honestly we can just start a whole thread on this one, I think we had one last year if I'm not mistaken.

Who do you think is the better prospect between him and Malachi Dupre?

I'd lean towards Dural.  I think Dupre has some nice upside as well but I really question his long speed, especially for a guy that ran so many vertical routes.  I'm not sure his "success" in college transfers over to the NFL.

KD Cannon doesn't get any love but he's as explosive as John Ross.

Derek Rivers is a small school guy but such a natural pass rusher it's uncanny.

Not sure he declared but Quin Blanding can become, special.

Blanding did not declare early

I think Adoree Jackson will be a bit boom or bust, especially if some team reaches on him in the first.
