Flacco was elite in the 2012 playoffs. Nobody can take that away from him, Now? We'll find out next season if he can play like an elite QB again. He's got his wish - Marty as OC and his knee will be fully healthy. So, we'll see if he is mediocre or elite.

I like the idea of nabbing Marshall if he gets cut. We need a big receiver. One that can move the chains and won't get bullied at the line.

Jeffrey is way too risk to pay $10-12 million a year.

I think everyone would be happy with mediocre at this point.

Im really hoping we pick up Marshall. He would come cheap, he wants to win a title.

If he was cheap and wanted to win a title, he wouldn't have Baltimore high on his list of places to play.

Also I would point out that the notion of being able to get Marshall "cheap" is a matter of perspective. If fans think "cheap" is $4-5M a year, then Marshall won't be playing for us, because he won't be playing for a contract so low.

Honestly, at his current $7.5M salary, I think he's right at where he should be in terms of value, and I don't really see a scenario where a team could sign him for less than $6-7M a year. So I think the conversation starts there.

If you compare that to the "market value" chart from Spotrac (which I personally don't put much stock in), that puts him right in that same group with Britt/Garcon, etc., just less expensive than Jeffery. So basically, there's not much cost difference between the better FA WRs and what Marshall would bring in terms of value.

With Juice and Williams pending contracts, I don't see the Ravens spending that type of money. I could see them waiting to see who gets cut, or go for a less expensive option with a giant chip on their shoulder. See Steve Smith and Mike Wallace.

So, who fits that mold; former first-rounder Cordarrelle Patterson. He said in a recent article "Two years I spent damn near on the sideline. That's never a good feeling for any player. No player wants to go through that," he said. "I need to know if I'm going to play or not. If not, I'll take my talents elsewhere." He wants to make sure that whichever team signs him plans to actually use him. He also fixes the Ravens KR issues. If only there was a former teammate who left the Vikings recently who felt the same way that could recruit him to Baltimore??? Mike Wallace….

Marty, G. Roman, and Joe could implement more of a spread offense with Wallace, Patterson, Perriman, and either Campanaro/Moore/Waller/Rookie/or a TE. SPEED, SPEED, SPEED, and more SPEED!!!

Need to listen to what Ozzie and Eric are telling you. They've said repeatedly we are looking for a complementary receiver... somebody who can move the chains and get critical catches on 3rd down and late in games.

Does that sound anything like Cordarelle Patterson to you? I honestly don't even know what he would bring to the team as a receiver (because he's not a very good one) other than kick return help.

We are highly unlikely to add another vertical, speed threat. I don't think we'd make a run at Patterson unless he's a super cheap return man, and I doubt we make a run at somebody like DeSean Jackson either.

Looking for a chain mover.

I still think we cannot pick a wrong position in the draft's first round this time... It can be the wriong guy - but not the wrong position. (Well, maybe QB... but Ozzie won't pick a QB in the first round for sure...)

too much dead money. fo needs to do a better job with contracts. stop extending old farts to clear cap space. torrey smith makes no sense. how many burners do we need. we need receivers that can work the middle of the field and do it all.

Really don't have that much dead money right now. For starters, I have no idea why an article is being written about dead money in January, because it will change dramatically before FA even starts for literally every team.

Plus, dead money doesn't really matter that much. Its a sunk, fixed cost of doing business in the NFL. The only thing that matters is the cap savings from losing that player and how that cap savings is spent to replace them.

The Atlanta Falcons are in the SB with the 3rd most dead money in the league at almost $26M. Patriots are top 10 in dead money also at over $17M. There's good teams with a lot of dead money, and there's bad teams with very little dead money (Jacksonville, Cincinnati). It really doesn't matter.

Its something the media comes up with to make themselves seem like they know what they are talking about regarding the salary cap.

Sure, if you have $40-50M in dead money, it makes it hard to compete. But teams that have $20-30M in dead money are far from prohibited from fielding a quality roster.

Personally, I like DeSean Jackson of the listed FA. And that was before I saw his YDS/REC ratio, which is very good. Guy was an outstanding player when he played under Andy Reid in Philly, and still looks to have some gas in the tank. Rumors are that Philly wants him back, and they are super desperate for ANY WR who can catch a ball, so I could see them overspending, especially considering he was a fan favorite before Chip Kelly basically gutted the Beagles of all their star players. Would be worthwhile to at least kick the tires on him in any case. LaFell might be another player to look at who would come relatively cheap and still have the potential to put up good numbers.

In fact, Marshall is the one WR I think fits our team and cap space. He'll elevate Flacco as a QB and make him look decent too. He has a wide catching radius and makes contested catches in a crowd. S

Why do I feel Matt Ryan's SB win is prefacing a Ryan vs. Flacco super bowl in the future?

My guess, and that's if Brady feels like retiring, they need a new Brady vs. Manning.

I certainly hope the subject of Joe being elite would just go away. It is irrelevant.

It's really more of a national joke at this point so I don't mind it as much anymore. I don't think anyone actually thinks Flacco is elite. It was debated for so long and he has gotten worse. Thats the joke. Wasnt there even a sign at a political rally last year saying "Joe Flacco is Elite". No one is taking him seriously anymore.

Kenny Britt is the same type of WR and at this point in their careers is probably the much better version. You're going to pay for name for Marshall but I'd rather have the more productive Britt at a few $ million less.

Of the FA WRs, Jackson or Garcon make the most sense to me, I think both still have a lot to contribute. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Anquan back if he was interested but not sure how much he has left in the tank. Why Pryor is such a "hot commodity" after 1 solid season is beyond me.

So then we'd have Wallace, DeSean and Perriman?

What's the goal there?

Well he's not a FA right now, so that would have to happen first.

27, incredibly athletic, produces on a team that literally had no QB.

And a pretty weak FA WR class. Not hard to see why people would view him so highly.

Likely won't be playing anywhere else but Cleveland next year though, so kind of moot.

they only need to look 30 miles south in DC. PIERRE CARCONE or DESHAWN JACKSON will be let go in free agency, either one is a legit 1 receiver.

1. I don't think DeSean is even a part of this discussion. He doesn't really bring any skill sets that Wallace or Perriman don't have at this point, and he certainly doesn't fit the mold of the kind of receiver we are looking for anyway.

2. I'd expect one of them to be retained by Washington. My money would be on Garcon, but he is the kind of player we would be looking for, though he also could be a bit outside of our price range.
