[News] Scouting The 2017 Senior Bowl: Cornerbacks

32 posts in this topic

LSU's Tre'Davious White is one of the draft's top pure cover corners. Iowa's Desmond King is a playmaker, but is he big and fast enough to play cornerback in the NFL? Michigan's Jourdan Lewis brings versatility and the Harbaugh connection.

Never heard of Douglas but top 4 White, King,Lewis, Sutton. Ive seen play either vs Terps in Big 10 or Natnl tv, all 4 4 be fine pick ups. Mocks Ive been looking at have them as early to mid 2nd rnders for King,White, to late 2nd to 3rd rndrs for Lewis, Sutton

Absolutely need to hit on a CB within the first two rounds. The league as a whole needs more quality CBs, therefore I don't see teams passing in them early just because their is depth in this year's class.

I'd easily take Marshon Lattimore, Sidney Jones or even Quincy Wilson with the first without trading back.

If we decide to go rush, WR, or OL, I'd love us to make a move to get White, Lewis, or King. Each has their pros and cons. For pure corne, White is the best among them, but King is a legit play maker. He can play corner or safety at the next level.

I always like the perception that oh 5'10 or 5'11 are too small to play on the outside, blow about Chris Harris Jr, Joe Haden, Ladarius Webb--before the injury, etc.

Every draft I have a few players that I just feel are going to be game changers at the next level and I think it would be a shame if we missed on King in the early second.

He legitimately defines what a Raven is. Hard nosed, discipline defender that gives 100% effort on every play. His bulkier frame and speed might limit him at times, but he has a lot of other traits that give indication that he will be a special talent.

He is super instinctive, he makes plays on the ball before the ball even leaves the QBs hand. On comeback routes he comes back to the ball hard and stops the play dead in its track. Ball skills. He doesn't drop picks when they are in his hand. He may not have super fluid hips or ability to mirror, but he makes up for that with his ability to redirect receivers. I also like that he turns his head to make plays on the ball and he doesn't get handsy when the ball is in the air. Very discipline.

Agree that King will be a factor in the NFL. Could also be converted to safety if need be. Curious if the Raven's would draft him if they pick up one of the top CB's with our first round pick, however. Nice post advocating him in any case.

The Ravens should NOT pin the success of their 2017 season on choosing a rookie CB. Go get a veteran Corner and put some players on the roster who will compete for the position as well as add 2 or more draft corners. Trade or release all corners except for Tavon Young and Jimmy Smith currently on the team and build what will be the "best backfield" in football period.
As far as Safety I would do almost the same thing. Weddle and Webb improved with playing time, however the schemes suffered and need focus.
LB and Front Line are going to have to make it, I myself think they have the talent and can handle the job, If Brandon doesn't want a ring he can leave.

Take on in each round, we have 2- 3rd rounders, I think, so we could grab a WR or QB in the 3rd. In the 4th take a Tackle or Guard, get a ILB in the 5th. if possible grab a Safety on the way out.

Draft to properly groom, pick up a proven vet MLBer....And hopefully draft a CB who doesn't get injured all the time....

Desmond King reminds me of Darrelle Revis.

Revis had 4.3 speed and the best closing speed since Deion Sanders. King is a physical 4.5/4.6 speed DB. He's great in off or zone coverage but man could be a problem. Can handle the Dez Bryant type WRs but the Antonio Brown/OBJ types will eat his lunch.

Yep! They've sent the blogger Mink to Alabama, so he has to report something. But, I thought this was a useful article but I wouldn't put too much stock into his analysis.

Would love a pass rusher in the 1st round and a CB in the second. I like King a lot but i depends how well he runs at the combine.

Who knows who this Ravens crew will pick. Did anyone have Perriman on their list or any other of their first rounds?

Pretty much every team had Perriman on their list for the 1st Round. And EVERYONE had Kevin White as the best WR in that draft. Almost every WR that draft was a bust. Btw, Perriman scored as many TDs as Stefon Diggs did last year. Cheatriots Troll

There was a post on here that said he loved the environment we had and he would be more than willing to move to safety if asked.

I mean ya we will probably target a vet corner, but it will be a cheap depth guy more likely than not. We need youth and speed. Watching the giants and jets game and watching our whole team get torched on multiple plays, one being a slant v the jets to a TE that went to the house was disgraceful.

Someone like Tre White or King that are seniors and have refined their skills pretty well will be immediately able to pitch in.

I haven't predicted the first pick correctly since Jimmy smith in 11'. 13' a bunch of mocks had Elam but I thought we were going Teo or minter.

15' I was in shock because I was so dead set on hoping character concerns would drop Ray or peters to us that I forgot many had top 15-20 grades on Perriman.

This year's surprise picks which I'll call now are going to be either Corey Davis or Cam Robinson. I just have a strange feeling if Wagner leaves this is how it could shake up.

I bet you could cover the Antonio/OBJ types though, cuz like you said, "you've played higher levels of football!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yeah Jimmy was a sure lock.

In '13, I had us picking Eric Reid.

I definitely had us picking Peters, I knew he would be a special talent. I was so mad when the Chiefs picked him. I didn't even know he was on their radar. I didn't like Perriman in the 1st round. I had him mid-second, third round. He moved to the first round after the combine when he ran a 4.3. I don't like receivers who can't catch. He couldn't run routes. He would just run past people. I didn't see much in terms of an immediate impact.

I am the biggest King fan around (I am a HUGE Iowa Hawkeyes fan), but this is just delusional.  Don't get me wrong.  I will be EXTREMELY excited if King is on our team next year, but no way he is the next Darrelle Revis.

Perriman was a surprise but at the end of he first, the sure fire talent starts to dwindle and you have to take some risks on players you think can develop.

I haven't given up hope on Perriman. In his private workout he ran a 4.24 and 4.28. He literally is 6'2, +210. That alone makes him intriguing, but the thing about his college tape was that it wasn't that he just had bad hands, he just lacked discipline and concentration. Watch his huge plays, he made some miraculous catches that don't indicate bad hands. He had the same problem that he showed this year--his legit first year, which was drops on short throws and seam routes because he starts focusing up field or on the defender before completely reeling in the catch. If he can work on that then he will be lightning. His catch and runs v the Dolphins and Bengals give a lot of hope. He is so fast and big that he could take slant and crossing routes to the house on a regular If we feed him in year 2.

i hear a lot about King , but he sounds like more of what the Ravens have now " potential". Hard workers who just dont make plays when you need them

I haven't given up on him. I know he is young. I think we need to give him a lot more snaps next year. You can't develop a player with a limited number of snaps. It would be a travesty if his rookie contract were up and we still don't know what he can do because we didn't give him a legit chance to prove himself on the field.

Rookie's are not what they used to be. Some can walk in and contribute early. Look at Tavon Young, even as a fourth round pick he played extremely well and saw plenty of snaps. Say they draft a solid first to mid second rounder. There is a strong chance they could be starting, maybe week 1 but even if not, mid season is not at all out of the question with lots of snaps in the between time. Whoever they get needs to be strong playing the ball and locating it it the air. Some of the current corners play the WR more than the ball and it does not pose much of a challenge.
