Big Ben to retire?

25 posts in this topic

I don't think he will either, but this is what he told CBS.

CBS/Pittsburgh:

“I’m going to take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options,” Ben told us. “To consider health, and family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season, if there’s going to be a next season.”

When asked if he’s going to play next year, Ben simply said, “I’m going to take some time and evaluate with my family and just do a lot of praying about it and make sure it’s the right thing for me and my family.”

I say there is a zero percent chance he retires.

I tend to agree with you for next season at least - but still, just him even saying he's thinking about it made me go "whoa"

Id say so too, but for the sake of the Ravens moving forward, I am glad he has began to consider it.

He's just dramatizing, like he usually does. Just like he hurt his shoulder foot ankle a couple weeks ago. He'll be out there and, if he's not: welcome to the division, Landry Jones!

Drama, Drama, Drama.

Between the injuries and now this look at me retirement talk, Ben is a huge Drama Queen.

If he's taking his health in consideration then I think there's a good chance he retires. He's taking so many hits over the years, he's played through so many injuries, and he's turning 35 in March.

At his age, those hits and playing through injuries will catch up to him quick. Will say, if 2016 was his last year then mad respect to him and all he's accomplished. Playing the Steelers won't be the same without him next year.

Tomlin says it isn't the first time Ben has mentioned retirement. Pittsburgh beat reporters think it is a public expression of discontent about something or other - they're not sure.

One thing is for certain, Ben loves being the center of attention and will create drama to do it.

Was checking the Steelers forum, seems some are expecting some down years until they find a new franchise quarterback. I would imagine he would retire but at the same time I don't see him leaving so much money left on the table. PFT says he has $46M in salary and bonus left, along with escalators that make it even higher, I don't see Ben leaving that much on the table. He's under contract through 2019.

Actually talk in york pa where his wife is from ,  He has been on the fence due to his declining physical abilities outside of sports ,  little stuff like waking up and not being able to quietly get out of bed (joints cracking waking his wife up) .  If that is the case then I understand him wanting to leave and wish him the best of luck out of football .  Sadly we all get older some age faster then others .

Surprised he said it after supposedly started this season in the best shape he's been in for awhile and noticelable lighter in weight.

He just needs to lose about 15 lbs of fat and add 9-12 lbs of fast twitch muscle to come back.

Frankly, he's just 1) bummed out that people all calling him out for playing so badly in the playoffs and 2) "hurt" from getting beat so badly Sunday.  He wants sympathy and people to beg him to come back.  As many others have said: drama queen.

He's not gonna give up that money and have to pay the team back part of the signing bonus received. As well, don't be fooled by his interest in not getting injured. The guy rides without a helmet.

Maybe a certain poster that used to be on here could help him with that.  Get him back to Alpha-male status

I believe Big Ben is going to retire about as much as I believed there was a chance he wouldn't play in week 9, e.i. not at all.

Remember how Doctors warned Troy Aikman. if he kept on playing he might develop permanently memory loss like alzheimer's. Doctors should do the same to Big Ben,By telling him he might wind up in a wheelchair if he continues playing at his age.
