[News] Late For Work 1/16: Why Didn't Devin Hester Play Like That In Baltimore? More Playoff Takeaways

Flacco elite? Well if you surround him with a great defense, great running back, great receivers and a great offensive line he is good enough to win. What QB isn't? Can you say Dilfer?

I can just hear Ray Lewis' voice saying "Its just football, Brady".  I pure laughed out loud when I saw that tweet.  Brady is SO special...if you don't like getting hit, perhaps you might need to rethink football as a profession, lol.  Brady is a professional whiner.  But I have to say it makes my day when somebody knocks the snot out of him. lol

Who cares if its the Patriots or Steelers? As long as they lose in the Super Bowl to Green Bay or Atlanta. The same teams is just another factor killing the NFL. NSCAR attendance dropped after 5 wins in a row by Jimmy Johnson. Besides, this is the year of the outsider, Cubs won the World Series, Army beat Navy, and nobody thought Trump was going to win so I'm hoping Atlanta.

As for Hester, Ravens players usually have one or two guys a few feet away waiting on them to catch the ball. When was the last time a Ravens ran one back?

No doubt. If I were a coach, I'd fill a roster spot with one guy from the practice squad, send him on the very first Pats possession, and just PUNISH Brady. Legal or not, just wreck him. Pay for his fine, give him a bonus, and send him home. lol

I just want to remind people that its not like this "elite" debate is a nationally talked about issue (at least for the last 3 or 4 years). I don't think its even a locally debated issue. It is just an issue that is brought up maybe once or twice a month on this site and people get all worked up about it. I would be willing to bet about 85% of the time it is brought up in LFW. And for the most part, Sarah isn't actually advocating for the fact that Joe is elite. Mostly, just like today, its a comparison of a particular stat or attribute that Joe shares with the elite QBs in the league. But she never actually makes the inference that because of these commonalities that he is in fact elite (Eisenburgs articles do seem to be a bit overly romanticized, so it is possible that he has tried to make a JF is elite argument recently but I don't regularly read his work so I wouldn't know). Its a tough job to write an article on every single weekday of the year about such a narrow topic. Sometimes you have to stir the pot a little to keep people interested (see Mike Preston) and Sarah knows that if the word elite is used in conjunction with the name Joe Flacco regardless of the inference, its going to create a little buzz. And its not like she is loosing readers, as it seems that it is always the same people that get incensed every time the "E" word is mentioned. You just can't take what the media say OR what people say to the media at face value.  It always makes me chuckle when John does an interview after a loss and people are fired up on here because he didn't throw Marty, Dean or Joe under the bus.  Unfortunately, the era when coaches didn't censor themselves has gone away with Rex.  But even he started cleaning up his media act a little bit and even being the loose cannon that he was, he would rarely talk disparagingly about his current players or coaches.

Real easy. There is Brady. There is Rogers. There is everybody else.

13 of the past 14 Super Bowls featured either Brady, Manning, or Ben.... that doesnt put Flacco in that company, it makes him more of an anomaly 1 of 14!

There is Brady. There is Rodgers. Then there is everybody else.

Im with you there.  This may be considered a form of sacrilege by some members here, but Matty Ice deserves one.

I think Ben deserves to be in that conversation as well as much as it pains me to say it.  Maybe just a tiny step down from Brady and Manning but the guy has put together one heck of a career and it isn't over yet.  My mind was blown the other day when another member said Ben was overrated because of all of the weapons hes had.  He does always seem to have quality receivers, but Bell hasn't been there very long and the backs that hes been with between the Bettis and Bell eras were roll players. They were good but I wouldn't consider any of them to be as good as Ray Rice was.  And the guy has played behind some pretty bad Olines.  No one extends a play like that guy.  Thats what makes him so frustrating to play against.  Not many DB groups in the league can consistently cover their guys for 30 seconds..

Brady cries and wines to get yards but Aaron Rogers catches his opponents off guard for yards & touchdowns. Joe rides Lady Luck.

Another Super Bowl win won't make Patriots fans any more obnoxious than they already are, but another one for the Steelers would make their fans intolerable.
Go NFC!

Hester played like that because he was going against his former team. He didn't know it would be his last (he would still be playing if Seattle won). He was pumped. When I saw him, my mouth dropped. This dude was nasty. Every now and again, Father Time releases his clutches for a game or two.

I really don't care which team makes the super bowl at this point. As long as it ends with a NFC win, I'll be happy.

I just hate it when a player who struggles with us goes on to look great elsewhere. I'm not sure what the reasons are, but it is never a good look for the coaching staff.

Ravens are the farm team for the rest of the NFL. We find rough diamonds in middle of draft, polish 'em up for three or four years and then allow other teams to poach them.

This practice of all writers filling their stories with tweets is really lame. If you can't think of something to really write, end the article. I don't really care what some player has to tweet.

Because this team doesn't have the talent that the Seahawks have on special teams or on any other side of the ball. You want to talk about great Gm lets talk about seattles GM, Ozzie doesn't even compare. Ozzies washed up

So are you. Go back to Seattle.

I will never root for the Pats regardless of who they play! I don't root for cheaters any way, shape or form. Knock Flacco all you want. We would not have won the SB without him. He was a one man wrecking crew against Luck, Manning and "the whiner" Brady.

The Hester-thing: I was shocked that anyone would pick him up after his last Ravens game, but I was happy to see him ball-out back at his old team stadium. He had nothing to lose and played with pride, determination and reckless-abandonment. He found it and found himself again in that game. I wish he had found it with us, but as a football purist I still appreciated the opportunity to see him perform like like that just one more time (even if it wasn't for us).

The AFC QB Super Bowl Elite-thing: Funny stuff, yet pretty inventive journalism in hindsight. Just saying...why in last 14 years? Why not last decade? Maybe it was to get more responses or to go back to the pre-SkyGate wins for the Patriots or to add the Cowher era to the Tomlin Era or what???

Let's just do the normal 'every' decade-thing: 10 year AFC QB Comparison 5-5 (Elite Club)

  • Brady 1-2

  • Ben 1-1

  • Manning 2-2 (Denver and Idie Teams)

  • Flacco 1-0

Only QB undefeated in the Super Bowl this decade Brees, Rogers, Eli and Flacco. You see what I did? That entire topic is sadly irrelevant.

The Steelers/Patriots-thing: Don't care who wins that one.
Wait a minute...I just changed my mind. My hate for the Patriots far out weighs my contempt for the Steelers understanding that I would prefer rooting for another root-canal. That said, I would like for the Patriots to win in such an embarrassing performance from both teams that it leaves each team looking forward to the off-season even before the SB has been played. Belichick does a live FB locker-room feed announcing his retirement after another embarrassing SB loss, Brady loses his Uggs endorsements and Kraft shrinks 3 more inches which would officially give him Hobgoblin status for the next Marvel movie...you feel me?
