[News] Ravens Want To Add A Veteran Complementary Receiver

90 posts in this topic

I'm not a Flacco hater, but I wonder if a good definition for an "Elite QB" is simply one who can make a receiver great. I don't think it's dumb luck that the list of unquestionably elite QBs has some pretty famous matchups.

Or maybe it's just the Ravens having bad luck & bad decisions with the receivers they draft.

To put it another way: What would Breshad Perriman be if he played for the Packers? Not claiming to have an answer to that, BTW.

No i wouldn't say that at all. Lets take Dan Marino as an Example. or Dan Fouts, or Philip Rivers. some may not call them Elite but I would. Typically it is the other way around. Recivers either have talent or they don't, you cant make a reciever great but they can make you great as long as throw the ball to them where "only they can catch it." as stated by the great Fred Belitnikof

Its not so much the receivers as it is the routes they are made to run and the whole basic scheme of the offense.

Perriman would/is a mediocre receiver no matter what team he plays for.

How Ironic: Biscotti regreted trading Anquan Boldin.  Playoffs: If we had him  catching that ball in 2011 instead of Evans fate would be different.  If we had him in 2013, he could have been the x factor to win those last two games.  If we had him in 2014 he could have made a TD to help break out and advance.  If we had him in 2017, he could produce just as he did for the Lions. Since we had a senior retiring this team ought to grab a guy that can crash opposition rather than stand there and catch a third and out.   Boldin is the guy!

One thing we know for sure... if we draft a WR he won't amount to anything. On the other hand Ozzie has done well picking up salary cap casualties (except Evans). Why we dumped Boldin is the $64 question. He was well worth his contractually agreed upon salary that the Ravens refused to pay him.

I'm tired of us getting these veteran receivers every 3 or so years. We have to get it right when it becomes to drafting a wr and groom him in our system. Every other team in our division have no problem drafting receivers besides us. There's some talent in this draft.

If only the ravens could identify a good WR in the draft.  They have a long track record of making bad decisions at this position.

start perriman and lets see if he can develop into the all around beast we need and play moore plenty as well. we keep bringing in these aging vets which stunts the growth of the young guys we have because of the lack of real game reps they receive. alshon is only 26 so he would be an exception but he has been injured lately and had the stupid suspension this season so that should be taken into consideration.

I like that idea Greek, Start Perriman and Wallace. Moore is definitely worth keeping as a 4th. So if Aiken goes, which he probably will, the idea of picking up a 5-8 year Vet is a good one. Some times teams just dont have the room to keep them. I would consider a guy like Jeremy Maclin who went to KC and had his best 2 seasons after leaving the Eagles, then this year drops off mainly due to less targeting. The guy has plenty in the tank and would be a great #2/3 for the Ravens organization. Keep your eye on him or the likes of Pryor, Jeffrey, or even work a trade for someone like a Travis Benjamin or Tavon Austin where teams have receiver options.

The Ravens let another WR slip through their hands only to land with their biggest foe, The NE Patriots. They could have moved quickly and picked up Micheal Floyd who could end up to be a huge gem covered in coal, if he can work on it and the coal can be chipped off. I don't understand knowing that SS Sr. was leaving why they didn't make a move on Floyd.

The Ravens did move quickly to keep SSSr away from the Pats.  Bad for Steve, maybe, but good for us, and all that is right in the world.

I'd like to see us sign Kenny Britt.  He hasn't been exceptional in his career having only one 1000 yard + receiving season in 2016.  I'm sure that we could get him for a fair price.  He's young enough to play for several more years.  I like his height (6'3").

Ravens value draft picks more than most teams, and as a major way you rebuild your team they couldn't spend picks on that position

We are still hesitant to tolerate troubled players

He's a FA after this season

I don't disagree, it would have been nice and he's a talented receiver who could have helped us, it would have made sense, but those are some of the big reasons why we didn't.

AGREE. You can never have enough WINNERS on your team. Boldin would "Only" catch approx. 65 balls, 6 TD's, and provide GUTS and a WINNING ATTITUDE. Don't care if he takes playing time away from our very mediocre young receivers.

CP (Can't Play)

Based on what? Had we given him a fair chance at all he could have developed. His only flaw was that he was buried behind vets and draft picks as a UDFA, but IMO he had more promise than most young receivers we have had.

Picked up and dropped by other teams. CP. (Can't Play)

I think we need a competent GM. That's what the ravens really need. Someone who can identify difference makers and be bold enough to trade a damn 3rd or 2nd round pick for them.

How about trading for Brandon Marshall. Should have done it years ago when the dolphins dumped him for two 3rd round picks.

That or you pay the big bucks to Alshon Jeffrey. Those two veteran receivers would actually make a difference next season, not another late round pick or UDFA. (Chris Moore, campanero, marlon brown, aiken)

But you all know the ravens like to settle for mediocrity at important position groups (WR, CB) , so don't expect Ozzie to get it right this year.

We had Boldin in 2011 - he wasn't open. We would have had another SB in 2010 if Boldin doesn't drop the pass against the Squealers to win the game (it hit him in the chest).

Michael Floyd is an UFA after this year and do you really think Stevie B is going to claim a guy that got a DWI on video?

Boldin is the Man!!! Top 5 favorite athlete of my before becoming a Raven. He's the definition of a Raven. Or at least what a Raven used to be. Top 3 STUPID move of all time for the Baltimore Ravens trading him away. Esp after making us all look great and winning us a SB

That guy is injury prone and inconsistent.

If we are to go after a WR, I'd like to see us go get Alshon Jeffrey, DeSean Jackson or Michael Floyd.

D Jackson would be great. He fits Marty's West Coast scheme and he is fast and shifty. He won't have any trouble getting separation. He is a playmaker.

Both comments are right on the mark.

There are only 2 FA WRs who are better options than resigning K Aiken , (1- T Pryor and 2- A Jeffrey), Garcon is washed up , and the rest are most teams 4 or 5..Pryor would make most since , he is relatively young he is fairly durable and he is only going to get better, but if our FO office continues its M.O. probably not a playmaker just a benchwarmer.

I think Aiken is an average wr at the very best. I really hate the idea of relying on him to catch any passes. Then he would be playing s.t., and he was terrible at st this year. I'm not exaggerating on that one. It hurt the team. I hope he leaves, gets paid, and plays elsewhere. Pryor is the only FA wr I'd go after. He's a big target that we don't really have for Joe ( there's Perriman, doesn't really seem like a physical wr though). Pryor, Perriman, Wallace, and Moore sounds great to me. I wouldn't mind Kendall Wright at all either.

"Q" for one year. 65 receptions. 6 TD's. GUTS. DETERMINATION. WINNER.

Doubt he'd ever come back after the way we did him. Wish he would though

I like the idea, but hate the idea of Tavon or Benjamin. Maclin could be good, but risky imo. He's not a physical guy or a guy that can win 50-50 balls either. Someone will overpay him. Jefferey is super risky, but maybe worth it. But I like the idea of Pryor. Kendall wright may be a sweet fit too, though I really don't want to ever see "wright" on the back of a Ravens jersey again. never did

Who let the Boldin trolls out again?

Yeah, because he would not have helped us the last four years. As Chris Collingsworth said on a recent Sunday Night Football telecast...This guy(Boldin) what does he run, something like a 4.8 forty?
But he has the guts, heart, knowledge, and determination to always come up with the ball. He has "ONLY" averaged about 70 catches a season the last four years. Guess you're a Jeremy Butler or Camp guy and don't like proven WINNERS.
