Leslie Frazier hired by Bills for DC position.

Oh well, I'm numb to news like this at this point, our staff is always poached big time during the offseason. I'm just surprised there hasn't been more talk around DeCosta this time around, teams usually kick the tires on him, haven't heard anything, perhaps they just got the message finally that he's sticking around.

So we lost 2 really accomplished assistant coaches today - it's annoying - go find your coaches elsewhere, league!

Lost 2 and gained one "assistant" TE coach.

You could maybe add Todd Washington as well - we lost both oline coaches (it's annoying that Castillo left now because we had an in house replacement that we reportedly let go so he could get a job because there was nowhere to promote him to at the time) - now we have no continuity in the line coaching but given how well Stanley was coming on down the stretch I'm a little nervous about what a coaching change might do

So saddening our DBs had a major leap this year and we actually had turnovers. Lets hope it was mores Weddle being a coach on the field. No clue on who we may have on the radar...maybe Ed Reed will come as an assistant, not sure him and Harbaugh are actually on good terms but a thought. maybe John Pagano can come here, big fan. Maybe more Bills guys like Dennis Thurman or Donnie Henderson

No god please no

Unfathomable to me that we didn't force Pees into retirement and offer Frazier the job.

This sucks just as much as Juan's leaving excited me. The secondary excelled with him coaching them, but now who knows? So John recruits one 'fired' Bill in Roman and Pegula retaliates by hiring 2 'current' Ravens coaches! Don't mess with the 'Pegula'!

Surprised by this as well.  I'm personally not a fan of Tampa 2.

Best post I've read all morning lol. But I did like how Frazier turned the team from a 6 interception team to a 18 interception team. Worst in the league to first in the league. Definitely need another defensive assistant. Hopefully the team doesn't see a drop in turnovers because this last season was very promising in that aspect.

This one hurts.  I feel like he made a huge difference in what our secondary was able to do.  Frazier is a technique guy and you could see that in the way guys like Tavon Young played.  If the promotion is internal, I hope Chris Hewitt took a lot of notes from Frazier.  If not, I'm looking for a guy in the same exact mold.

Does anybody think the Ravens may find another HC who failed and bring them in as a defensive assistant? Like a Rex Ryan return or another coach? Seems to be the Raven way recently.

I'm really bummed by losing Frazier. I felt he did wonders for our secondary this season. Can't blame him for taking a DC position though, especially with a HC he's already familiar with. Surprised McDermott didn't go the distance and take the last former Eagles coach we have left. :P

In fairness though, how many interceptions did we get from non-secondary players and Weddle?

Mosley 4

Weddle 4

Orr 3

Jernigan 1

So, we got 12 interceptions from either players not coached directly by Frazier, or that weren't a part of the abysmal INT total from last year. In fact, the front 7 accounted for almost as many INT's as the entire secondary combined, including Weddle.

Outside of that group, we still had 6 INT's. That isnt to say that Frazier didnt have a hand in the overall emphasis on creating turnovers, and so probably had some impact on the entire defense - but, i think that was an organizational emphasis to work a lot more on creating and executing turnovers more so than it was Frazier doing anything special to "teach" it.

Not saying Im happy to see him go.. because I'm not. The more quality, experienced coaches on staff the better - and this is certainly a loss. Just saying that i think its impossible right now to judge the overall impact Frazier had individually...

Aside from the INT's i pointed out... Weddle coming in obviously had a huge impact and wouldve regardless of Frazier being here. Not to mention the fact that our secondary was playing really well down the stretch in '15 before Frazier got here. And the fact that when Jimmy was out, the secondary regressed big time. Im sure Frazier had a hand in Tavon playing so well, but outside of him our depth at both corner and safety really disappointed. Wright regressed, and other than occasionally Powers, no one else impressed.

Hate to see him go, but i wouldnt have wanted him as DC like some seem to want. And, until proven otherwise I think his role in the improvement of the secondary is somewhat overblown. Weddle coming in and Jimmy finally being healthy enough to play to his potential had more to do with it than anything, imo.

The main thing I do think he deserves a TON of credit for was the play of Tavon Young. Yea, he was talented to begin with and prob wouldve been successful regardless, but he far exceeded expectation, and Frazier is known for his attention to detail and ability to coach technique. So, I will give him that and that should be huge for us going forward.... so i thank him for his contribution and helping to develop what looks to be a very good to great young player for us - but in terms of overall secondary play, i think we'll be just fine so long as we have Weddle and a healthy Jimmy.

I'm not surprised to see this move. He's inheriting a pretty good nucleus of a defense. Granted a few of those defenders will be free agents, like gillmore and brown which i hope for his sake they resign, but frazier will have them in the top 5 next season. I'm unsure of his impact on our secondary. People will say getting weddle shored us up, i believe that to be more likely as hes like a coach back there.  I think Frazier had those guys in the right mindset, but our secondary didnt improve on the turnovers, and when jimmy went down the entire secondary played down, we had little depth, and i think that hurt what Frazier was able to really do, I still wish we had kept terrance brooks. Best of luck in buffalo.

You don't think our secondary improved on turnovers this season???  We had 18 INT's this season...  We had 6 last year.

2 by the secondary last year, and 10 by the secondary this year.

Well there goes our hopes of havin a top tier defense again.

Better load up on pass rush and offensive linemen and receivers otherwise we could be in big trouble.

I was kind of hoping Frazier would become our DC....  He was good at that, but not as a HC.

There is Mike Pettine but secondary coach wise The Ravens do have some options like Ray Horton,Chuck Cecil, or their very own assistant defensive back coach Chris Hewitt

Like the idea of both of them--solid track records. Cecil made me think any way Harbaugh brings in Jeff Fisher in some weird defensive role. Not sure if he is hanging it up but Harbaugh does not seem to mind having old HC on his staff and if Fisher is wanting back in the game Harbaugh may be one of the few with the confidence to have such a coach on his staff. I am not a huge fan of Fisher just a conversation piece really..
