[News] Eisenberg: How Do Ravens Get Better? It Always Comes Back To Joe Flacco

46 posts in this topic

Building a beast of an Oline is where we begin. It will help the run game as well as the passing attack so that we can be more balanced. Adding a few more weapons wouldn't hurt as well.

How about drafting Clemson's #7 WR?

He'll be long gone before we pick. What, you don't like our mediocre #1 pick Perriman?

I have ZERO trust in the Ravens' ability to scout, draft, and then develop WRs. ZERO.

We have to scratch our heads and wonder WTH is the issue here?

Even the Browns hit on Gordon.

Omit the damn 40 times and hit the film room

Flacco needing to get plays from the sideline in hurry up situations says everything needed about him.....9 years next year makes 10 and and still problems reading defenses....question is who can or will hold this dude accountable for his performance

Strengthen the run game and Joe will be better.

OMP.... I am with you... Joe had his best (most effective years) when we had a great run game. Would love to see us (trade up) and get a Dalvin Cook or stand pat and take Saqwan Barkley out of PSU

Flacco is what he is, and likely won't change.  He's a largely durable, strong-armed QB that can make about 2 reads, doesn't feel comfortable under pressure (especially up the middle), has better things to do in the off-season than work with his receivers, is not very capable at checking out of plays on the line, needs constant attention to his mechanics, doesn't have touch on a deep ball, can't anticipate receiver's routes or lead them open but can drill them when they are, and needs play action to help his receivers get the clear separation they need for him to feel comfortable to throw.

Now, to get the most out of Joe you first need the right offensive scheme (balanced running game with play action passing and more vertical/deep routes), next an effective offensive line (scheme and coaching first, then talent), and finally WR's who have truly elite route-running skills to get significant separation (Mason, SSSr) to complement burners who pull the secondary deep (Torrey Smith, Perriman, Wallace).  I'm convinced he went on the tear he did in 2012 is because Caldwell and Boldin told him to throw to Boldin even when he looks covered, and trust Q to win the battle for the ball (so of course we released him the following year, SMH).

Since we won't fix offensive scheme or O-Line coaching this year, we should next get a bigger, nastier center and left guard (assuming Lewis moves to RT), and perhaps draft a WR like Davis or Ross, who are the best route-runners in the draft.  There's no receiver in the draft like a Julio Jones or Dez Bryant.  Davis is very interesting as a #2 guy, and Ross is a slot guy who would make Camp and maybe Keenan Reynolds redundant.

Mike Williams may no be a Julio Jones or Dez but I think he could be a Mike Evans or Brandon Marshall type.

We have the makings of a pretty good OL now. IF we re-sign Wags... we will have coming back...

Wags- Yanda -C?- ALewis- RStanley
with Jensen, Ducasse and Urschel as proven back ups

If we can land a quality C (via FA or draft) and potentially another back up T we could have one of the best OL's in the NFL next season.

heck...even if we lose Wags

Lewis-Yanda-C- Ducasse- RStanley
with Jensen and Urschel as proven back ups

We would need to add depth at T either way (cannot rely on Hurst so much) but that would still potentially be one of the top 10 OLs in the NFL (with little additions to C and depth)

A lot of people are mocking Corey Davis to us..............thoughts???

I don't think CDavis will still be there... I also think that we will look to compliment Mike Wallace and Perriman via FA. So, I feel like our first draft pick in 2017 will either be a RB (depending on how far some may fall or if we can trade up) and if the right guy don't fall... I think we will go CB (like a Tankersly)

Pretty weak FA WR market unless some cuts free up some bodies.

No chance in the first. I am not taking a small school receiver at 16. Ozzie's Achilles heal is WR and id rather he nail this pick. Only receiver I'd take would be Williams.

None of it matters as long as we keep pretending that our secondary can cover C+ or better receivers, or deal with the no huddle in the second half. Our secondary needs to be our primary concern.

Technically, I guess we got better. In 2015 we gave up yards through the air in all four quarters. In 2016 we only gave them up in the second half... IN 20-40YD CHUNKS,

Until we deal with it we'll NEVER score faster than our secondary gives up points.

Just let joe call his own plays and be done with it, he did it in college, he's making $20M for crying out loud, more that all of his coaches altogether, none of them are worth their salt either, how many calls did Weeb make for John?

His footwork, decision-making and accuracy were shaky at times. He tossed 15 interceptions, the second-highest total of his career. Known for his big arm, he seemed quick to settle for check-down and crossing routes. ... “If he were sitting here now, he’d say it’s all on him, his footwork, his mechanics, it’s all got to be better,” Bisciotti said. Correct assessment ... So my question is, when has Harbaugh ever achieved selecting a QB coach or OC that effectively corrected these multi-year Flacco deficiencies? Gary Kubiak, but GK wasn't Harbaugh selection, Its well known it was mandated from above that Harbs hire GB... whom just happened to show up at Harbs house to be interviewed. The 1st thing GB did was relegate Harb's Juan Castillo to the TE's while he redirected the OL scheme and Hammer'd on Flacco continuously on elevating his QB techniques... I just don't see Harbs effectively coaching or assigning an additional QB coach besides Marty Mornhinweg... & we have yet to see positive results from MM whom was the QB coach b4 this years promotion... I just don't see it, unless it comes from within Flacco himself ... Well we haven't seen that of late either... It would be extraordinary to see a Flacco progression, because all we have seen is a multi-year Flacco regression... Flacco is the hinge that opens up the Raven's to returning to the playoffs... But his is holding all the cards, the contract, the Cap space, no challenging backup QB in the system yet, & the Ravens haven conceded to his desired coaches ... & now the whole coaching staff's jobs next year are on the line based on Flacco's performance... The odds are really high that this all turns around...

I said for years on this board Flacco stinks. 'Bout time management got the memo. To bad it was delivered by the "Pony Express" by way of the Rocky Mountians through hostile Sioux territory hampered by a blizzard, ahhh...you get the picture.

Draft his replacement immediately!

Flacco led game winning drives in the 4th quarter against OAK (twice), NYG, PIT, WAS & JAX this year. Yes, he has some warts but that tells me he can win games in the 4th quarter with the game on the line. Despite what PFF or TQBR or any of the rankings say, that's better than half the QBs in the league. I'll go to battle with a guy that I know can win games. Might not be pretty at times, is definitely not a HOF QB like Ben or Brady and will never put up fantasy stats but is a good QB.

I'll take a $24 million QB that wins over a $22 million Stafford or a $20 million Tannehill or a $19 million Luck or $19 million Osweiler that doesn't.

You'll be broke and a loser.

I love Joe Flacco. He's been a great QB for Baltimore, for the most part.
I just want to see him take the next step in his career and work on tightening up the little things that have been holding him from the truly elite status.
I think with the right kind of play calling and better O-line work Joe could lead us to the promise land again ! Although Joe has to step up his total game to the next level to make this happen.
