I had to listen to him call the 2004 Cardinals/Red Sox world series. He's a local guy and his dad was a HOF broadcaster for the Cardinals, so he was over-the-top trying to cover his hometown bias.

I guess it stuck.

I do love Joe Buck, though. He's hilarious when he's calling games on or local Fox affiliate.
