[News] Eisenberg: Nothing Will Impact Ravens More Than Addressing One Position

absolutely true. IMO, Weddle's technique against Brown was the reason he couldn't bring him down. Trying to take anyone down by grabbing him around the shoulder area was the reason this small receiver got that touchdown. He made a hero out of Brown. he needs to be a backup at this point in his career.

We essentially have two free safeties in Weddle and Webb.  They are more ball hawks than thumpers.  That's what made Ed Reed a freak; he was the best of both before he hurt his shoulder.

I hope the Ravens FO guys were watching the Houston DB's working yesterday against Oakland, albeit against a 3rd string QB. Regardless, they covered the Raider receivers. Fantastic backfield play. As the article says, the Ravens have suffered from poor play from our guys for years, even back to Reed's final days. This is a passing league and you have to stop Brady, Ben, Rodgers etc. Ozzie has seemingly ignored this for the last few years. The trade for Weddle was a decent attempt but he wore down after 8-10 games(couldn't make the big play against Pittsburgh). IMO, time to make Jimmy a backup. He doesn't stay on the field. Ditto with Weddle. Rest are worth keeping. While on my soap box. the LB's can't cover receivers either. How many times did we see number 57 and 50 chasing down a guy after a 20 yard gain?

I like Weddle and he tries really hard, but he's slipping too. Sometimes he doesn't seem strong enough to bring down some of these big, muscular receivers or RBs. We always get good playmakers on the end of their career so we don't get much benefit from having them. It's like they say, "you get what you pay for."

He gets drug all the time he is too old! I have seen him try like hell but he needs to get to the weights or something! You know it was he who was trying to stop brown? He also aint crap on safety blitz. I watched him about four times in the last game blitz and took the same path everytime to the quarterback to no avail! He is too old but what better choice do we have?

I don't care what the offense did or did not do. A defense can not give up 21 points in the 4th quarter. And if it only take one player to have the defense fall apart, then it really was not a good defense.

It not a good defense but no matter what you can't have the defense play most of the other quarters. The offense 3 and outs is un acceptable.

The Ravens had nearly a 10 minute time of possession advantage over the Stillers, so that excuse doesn't wash for that game. Same for the Raiders game and the Giants game, also situations where the defense crumbled in the end.

I still for the life on me can not understand why Webb and Wright did not even try to tackle the receiver in bounds. Webb actually pushes him out of bounds on the first pass I watches that series three times and one thing stuck out NO LEADERSHIP. Ray & Ed would have been all over it. i.e Super Bowl. There is so much wrong with this team its impossible to nail it down to a couple of things.

I know, I saw that too. Where Webby pushed the Steeler receiver out of bounds instead of tackling him in-bounds. That's a rookie mental mistake that Webby shouldn't be making at this point in his career. The receiver was fighting for extra yardage...maybe a yard or 2, but let him have it cause the clock is more important at that stage of the game.

He got paid? Sometimes it seems that way when you look at it! As you say they have been in the league too long not to understand this. I am sure they knew to keep man in bounds because I would like to think that Dean made then aware of this? Even so it was something that the two of them should have been telling the other guys? and they are VETS!!!!!! Dumb Vets Now I see why San Diego got rid of him Sharice , Powers, Kendrick, Arrington that is over 30 years of nfl football! All that time you would think secondary would be great with over 3 decades of experience?

I feel like people are in a coma sometimes. It has been extremely obvious that our secondary has sucked for the past 3 or 4 years and worse when our top corner can only play about 9 games a year. Now, all of a sudden I'm reading articles about how we need to improve our secondary. We should have done that last year when we had the #6 pick in each round. It's going to be alot harder now that we're back at #15-20. Ozzie needs to stop drafting guards and tight ends in the top rounds and get us some playmakers at the skill positions!

We DID improve our secondary. Look at the number of interceptions we had this year compared to last. We've allowed way less "chunk" plays. We have better safetys than last year. We have better corners than last year. You cant fix it in one year. We have made big gains and if we make the same amount of improvement next year we will be awesome.

Look how many we could have had? that got away? I watched Weddle miss two in one game!

The defense just ran out of gas with two over 30 pass rushers and a prevent defense.

Is it my bad memory, but I keep thinking there were not that many three and outs?

WHats your thought on Solomon Thomas. I didn't really watched college this year, and have only studied a little so far. He looks pretty awesome though. I still think we need a CB first round. Esp with all the talent this year. I feel like there could be at least 2-5 future pro bowl cbs in the first round of this year. I've never really seen that before. And there is a bunch of talent elsewhere. In all honesty, at 16, I feel like we'll be getting a player that would go top 5 i a lot of drafts. Because of the overall talent in this draft. We still have to get the pick right though, obviously. I feel like we have to go corner for so many reasons. So far I really like Wilson, Tabor, Jones, Jamal Adams (saftey), and there's at least 3-4 other cbs people are talking about going in the first. I haven't looked much yet. Wilson looks like a remedy for Ravens football to me. Pair him with Jimmy Tavon and Weddle for years to come = secondary problems beyond solved, and probably the best in the league. Building the rest of the D around that would be fun imo

I was reading and listening to your post and found it most interesting until the end! You must be mad or crazy to think that Jimmy and Weddle should be considered as legit starters? You cant depend on Jimmy for crap! Look at his- story Never plays a whole season does Jimmy and Weddle too old and weak! why do you think SD got rid of him and they sucked this year and they didn't want him. Why didn't they feel he was a positive for their organization?

After reading all the comments I think we should fire the GM fire the HC fire the OC fire the DC fire or cut the QB, guess we are OK at rb cause we cut him after third gams. Cut the center of OL  Get rid of entire secondary. I qwonder hoow we won eight games.

PS I know there are more guys to cut or fire bhut I am old and I forgot

we went from having one of the best front offices to one of the worst. This rosters been pathetic since ray lewis retired. Ozzie and the front offices inability to find WRs when it seems like these other franchises find them any and everywhere shows that their scouting procedures are out dated. Sucks to be a ravens fan post ray lewis era

It's sickening. I have nothing to do with Baltimore and have lived in Ca my whole life. Yet I honestly believe at this point, I'm just as die hard if not more than a lot of the people here. I sleep with Ravens stuff, wear, I love the Ravens more than anything just about. But everything that drew me to them over the years is fading, and almost gone for that matter. I'm not leaving my birds, but if Steve keeps up with this garbage I wont have a choice before long. not fair to the players or fans. I could go off for about 3 hours on how it's just simply disgusting that this staff is coming back. LIterally made me sick to my stomach when I saw it was so

Bingo! It just goes to show, more than ever- that a QB does NOT make a team. Flacco had received that huge contract through being with many other common denominator team mates that made the team what it was during a specific span. Now that nearly all of those team mates are gone- HE IS EXPOSED for what he is. Joe may be tall, rather durable, and have a strong arm- but so what, that is all that he exhibits. I don't believe that there is a lot 'upstairs' when it comes to Joe reading a defense or calling a play- or even knowing when to get out of the pocket / to extend a play. As the NFL has been evolving toward a pass happy league (due to the over protection of the QB- while there is little regard to other positions) the demand for a more dynamic QB and play calling are emerging- and quickly. Point blank, if we want to continue sticking with the same old, same old philosophies, and or, player/s, well then- we will just continue to underachieve, and thus stink.

In a QB driven league ALL QB's get paid. So you're OK with the Ravens going with Ryan Fitzpatrick? He's available.

ooooh man! point taken

It will be interesting to see what we do with our 1st round pick in APRIL. We should be taking DB's in the first few rounds if this team is serious about improving the secondary. What we have now is just about the worst for coverage in the league. Guys are never really in position to stop the passing game no matter the team they are playing against.

we need whole new coaching. offense, defense, and head. If it's obvious to the fans, why isn't it obvious to Steve?

That is an excellent question that, for the life of me, I cannot come up with an answer for. I Have to believe that this next season will Absolutely be a make or break year for Harbaugh. He Needs to get us back into the playoffs or he won't be getting another chance. It very well could be yet another tough year to watch and be a Ravens fan. And I'm stuck with it because NOTHING could change the fact that I'm a RavenManiac. That's for life. I honestly hope that I am 100% wrong about Harbaugh and will very happily eat my crow if he proves me wrong. I would just LOVE for that to happen. For real. But, I suspect that even if that were to happen, while yes, that crow would be eaten, doubts about Harbaugh would most likely remain for a while longer.

I think if Harbs doesn't get us back to the playoffs this upcoming season, "he's done."

And he should be already missed playoffs 3 out of 4 years now

maybe root isnt the right word. i'm rooting for them as much as anyone, always. It's just more than frustrating to see us continually making mistakes that only bottom tier organizations make. Ray and Ed made us competitive every year no matter what was going on. Now Sizzle is almost gone too. The drafting over the past 7 years has now been exposed to say the least. Harbaugh's very poor coaching has been exposed. And a very poor description for this year is the nicest way of putting it. Time management, coaching personel, not sending out the best kicker in the game nearly enough in all those close games, ZERO halftime adjustments, and the list goes on. Don't even get me started on his roster decisions either. Wright?? The guy got cut from the Chargers..then he couldn't even make the worst football team in the country. The 9ers (= with Browns). I repeat, he couldn't make the 9ers roster. So what do we do. Going into the offseason we decide and plan on that man to be the # 2 corner for the Baltimore Ravens. Behind injury prone Jimmy. In which case he would take over as the # 1. Game 1, he makes some good tackles vs a team that doesn't pass. Then he gives up like 4-6 TDS over the next 3-4 weeks!! And anyone that can see anything can see that he IS NOT GOOD at all. But we stick with him?? Can't imagine what would've happened this year without tavon...So, Harbaugh decides to stick with Wright through injury and awful play. Therefor, that terrific decision + Jimmy going down (happens a lot) + the wonderful coaching of Pees and Harbaugh leaves Mr. Wright one on one with Antonio Brown on the outside with the season on the line. By some Miracle, we still ended up in Pitt with the season on the line with 2 games left. I live for that as a fan. And then we have Wright on Brown...nothing else to say. Just a small example of how lame this season was all the way around. There should be a whole new staff coming in, but there isn't. I'm as a big a fan as anyone, just confused and pissed.
It's not like we're rebuilding and completely screwed, but some big time issues need to be addressed. Coaching needs to figure it out. We need to draft better, AND fill needs. And we need to find a way to condition and be healthier as a team in general. I know it's football, but we've been decimated by injuries for years now. I'm ready for the draft. Wouldn't mind seeing the Hawks, Pats, and Steelers lose though

And we gave Wright 13 Mill.....What the heck? between that contract and Flaccos......

I know right? I cant figure it out either. Why did they not just let Tavon stick brown? He could not have done worse and he could have chalked it up to experience. With wright I guess it was a good way to show the Ravens he is not worth the money and I don't believ he will be there next year

This Is an offensive league so I don't really blame the defense, at the end of the day the offense needs to score points and stay on the field to protect the defense. Why pay Flacco all that money if you want the defense to protect the offense? Tell Flacco to give half of that money he got and maybe they can build a defense. And I know people will start naming all these other QB's that got paid, well look at where there teams are, at home just like the Ravens and look at where they're ranked in QB ratings. Until that happens the Ravens will always be a 8-8 team or even worse. Only a hand full a QB's should get paid that amount of money because they can actually carry a team. Ravens shot themselves in the foot again when they extended Flacco's contract which set the team back again another 4 years. Ozzie has really been slipping lately.

I am sorry that you are unable to dictate the going rate for QBs in the league. There seems to be a misunderstanding of even basic Economic concepts here. And unfortunately, that is not surprising.

I am sorry you consider flacco an actual qb.......he's not worth wut he's getting paid........except on paper.....he looks sooooooo good on paper......totally agree wit steelraven here......but in reality its our below par head coach and Gutless front office which i am sure You think is jus peachy also........SMH

I am not sure if you read my post but if you get a chance point me to the place where I said anything about Joe Flacco or his skill level.

He's a constant subject for this guy... regardless of the topic, the Joe bashing just goes on and on. And let's not forget the coaching. Some folks I just can't understand. They seem to be here for one reason, and that's not to root to the home team.

not a lot to root for. The entire organization is in disarray worse than ever. And it all starts from the top

I think you need to get off our BUS! Perhaps Jacksonville, Chicago, 49, rams, jets, bills, and even Cleveland, might take you on their bus?

Losing Jimmy took us from having 2 good CB's to only 1. Yeah that creates problems when Shareece Wright is playing 60+snaps. Real problem is how bad our offense is. They put our defense in bad spots all year yet the Defense held up in every win or close loss. Throwing the ball 70% of the time is the biggest reason our offense and defense sucked. The defense played too many snaps. Too many chances for NFL offenses to craft successful drives.

I agree, a quality CB is desperately needed. Jimmy is great when he is out there, but he is out with injuries more often than in it seems. Tavon Young is awesome (but he is still learning) Wright and Powers are not top tier CBs. In my humble opinion for the draft I don't think a RB is needed, and because Wagner may leave in FA maybe an O line guy. Also a WR should be on the shopping list, but if I was the Ravens I would focus on the secondary (mainly CBs) as much as possible. GO RAVENS!

Not a Jimmy Smith fan, dont think he would have made a difference in the defense and its decline. That and he cant be counted on anyway,.

I don't like Jimmy Smith getting hurt either, but him missing the 2nd half of the Giants game, the jets game, Patriot's game and the 2nd Pittsburgh game showed he is a huge difference maker thanks to Ozzie not drafting a Quality DB in 6 years.

The offense was so bad that the defense spends too much time on the field ! You can't blame a top 7 to #1 defense when your offense keeps doing a 3 an out.A 27th ranked QB with a 21st ranked offense causes stress to your defense.
The defense just ran out of gas with two over 30 pass rushers and a prevent defense.

The offense had 2 Offensive coordinators that gave up on the run. I think the 4 game losing streak in October scared the team and if something went wrong in the game they abandoned the run. When Joe threw under 35 times he was 3 wins and 0 losses. Joe is not built to throw over 40 times a game and they are telling him to throw over a 40 and 50 times a game which kills play action. An Offensive Coordinator is supposed to put his Quarterback in the best position to succeed and they asked him to be Drew Brees, Well they succeeded they are both out of the playoffs.
