I have to get anew TV. I did not see a wide open receiver in 16 games.

You need glasses sir, a lot of open receivers but Flacco became the king of the check down. Most of the time he was one read then check down, by the end of the season Smith Sr. And Wallace were being just lazy on routes knowing Flacco wouldn't even look at them. That doesn't happen unless you leave people wide open a lot.

The West Coast offense is predicated on timing routes and anticipatory throws - throwing a receiver open or releasing the ball before he makes his break. Joe has shown very little ability to do either. He relies on his arm strength to drill the ball in to a clearly wide open guy (which doesn't last long), and try to err on the safe side by hitting the guy low or outright overthrowing him.

Kubiak's offense was a good fit because the commitment to the running game enabled a consistent play action passing that resulted in more clearly wide open receivers as defenders had to always keep an eye on the backfield.

Proving once again, he is at bad at evaluating coaching performance as he is at evaluating players to draft. The only competent coach we have had under Harbaugh is Kubiak, who was brought in at the request of the owner if my memory serves correctly. The offense was probably the worst it has ever been in 10 years this year, with arguably the most talented skill position players with speed and potential than ever. But somehow they managed to stall 5 out of 6 drives a game and look like a complete wreck doing it. I would expect nothing less from this hack who lucked into a SB championship and would otherwise be as bad as Jeff Fisher since his on field coaches left. One more season of bumbling ineptitude before we get someone in here who can actually coach, rather than cheerlead.

This team has so many warts I don't even know where to start. Only bright spot going forward .......... Justin Tucker. Sad when the kicker is the brightest part of the football team.

I can't imagine why we wouldn't make a change at OC but in a way I can see why we didn't.. We haven't had consistency for a long time and I'm willing to see what Marty can do with a full offseason becuz honestly he never had a chance to really put in the work needed for the offense plus he had to get a feel for the weapons around him so, in a way it make sense, "BUT" , we need to bring in someone who can help mix up the play calling and have input also with the game planning.. Maybe we can bring in Norv for an advisor position or hire a QB coach that as a strong knowledge in different schemes and play calling.. I hate to hear the words "We ARE NOT CHANGING THE WAY WE RUN OUR OFFENSE", it's outdated and really irresponsible, like all things in life we must change and adapt to survive.. Free Agency and the Draft is our main focus point!! Go Ravens

Here we go again, another year of a vanilla offense. Harbaugh, said it was a mistake to keep Trestman, hopefully he not making another mistake. It was admitted that Mornigweg is cut from same mold as Trestman. He was unable to get the Ravens in the end zone inside of 20. Maybe, he needs an imagination transplant. The players, also need to be looked at. Why did continue to send undersized RB's into a stacked line on short yardage. You can also blame the O-line for not being physical enough to open hole for the backs. Maybe we need tougher linemen of better o-line coach. Harbaugh, your job is on line with this call.

When the ravens run more than pass we win ALOT more games

Steelers and Bengals will be 10 win teams next year. Ravens playing at Green Bay , Tennessee , Minnesota and Oakland will be lucky to win 5 games next year with this 1990's coaching staff and roster. Very disappointed in Steve.

As a life long Raven fan who lives in South Carolina, I don't have the option of saying things like I will cancel my season tickets, or I will never pay another penny to attend a Raven game, but I do have the option of dropping Direct TV's Sunday ticket, and that is precisely what I intend to do. It is apparent to the entire football viewing world that Harbaugh is only going to hire his good buddies as coaches, and hope that they will somehow pull a rabbit out of their butt and all of a sudden become good coordinators. Anyone that watches Raven games can see the problem for what it is. The offensive line is one of the weakest in the NFL, and not only do they not pass protect, but they are unable to create holes for the RB's. Flacco has about as much leadership ability as Elmer Fudd. He does nothing to inspire his team mates, and just does not have that fire in the belly that all great Quarterbacks possess. Defensively, there is not a team in the NFL that fears playing them. If the little sisters of the poor had a football team with a QB that could deliver deliver passes, they would salivate over the chance to play against this secondary. Pass rush, what pass rush? And Harbaughs answer is to keep his buddies employed, give me a break. Good luck Raven fans, I'm done.

Understand the frustration. Our offense was awful at times, but at other times, they looked great. Consistency is key to being successful in any pro sport. Over the last couple weeks (except this past Sunday) our offense looked better than most of the season. We moved the ball great against Pittsburg. My biggest issue with us all season was finishing drives. We were terrible in converting nice drives into touchdowns, and that's the difference between being 8-8 or 11-5. We left 10-14 points off the board against the Steelers. I want to see us run the football more. Flacco is more successful with a good running game, we can't lead the league in pass attempts, that a recipe for losing. Our offensive line actually wasn't bad when full strength. Stanley graded out as the best LT (pass protection at least) in the league the past 4 games before Sunday. Yanda is the best guard in the league, doesn't matter which side. Zuttah made some boneheaded plays, but he is better than fans give him credit for. Ducassae (spelling?) did a decent job filling the void for Alex Lewis or Yanda for that matter. And Rick Wagner played very well until he was hurt the last few games. For a couple of weeks in the season our line was filled with guys who should never see the field, but injuries happen in this league.

Our secondary is frustrating, but we are also better than years past, and it would be nice to see Jimmy Smith stay on the field. Tavon Young was a good draft pick, we need another solid corner to help solidify our CB group. Webb is a question mark, does he stay or go. I wouldn't mind seeing us draft another S that provides some more playmaking ability and speed on the back end. Weddle had a great year. Nice pick up.

Yes, Pass rush is an issue. We need a young speed rusher off the edge. I really don't care if they are an edge setter, we just need a pure pass rusher. Doom and Suggs are on their last legs.

I like Pees as our DC. Is he to conservative at times? It may seem like it. But what can you do when you design nice blitz calls but then you have matchup problems or the offense just picks the blitz up nicely. What can you do when you try to drop 7 in coverage and rush 4 but they don't get there? You can't give a QB all day, and its hard to blitz when QBs get the ball our so quick or just win the battle sometimes. You're going to lose some battles plain and simple. The offense has been game planning for our defense as well.

I was down for letting Marty go, but I'm also not angry about keeping him. Let's see what happens this year. Hopefully we run the ball more effectively.

One last thing, can we just drop the discussions about Flacco's leadership. It's been 9 seasons now, and he isn't going to change now. I'd play for him though. I haven't seen Flacco confront guys for dropping passes, yell at lineman for getting him crushed, or call guys out publicly. He takes a beating, get right back up. His WRs drop a pass, he isn't scared to come right back to them, and if he has an issue with someone, he is man enough to discuss it but not publicly. Is he the best in the league? Obviously not. But he is our QB, good enough to win big games, proven that already, and can deliver when it matters. I'm going to defend him as long as he is wearing purple and black.

Last thing, I don't care how bad of a season the Ravens have, I won't give up on them. I'm a fan until I die, and hell I might get buried with a purple and black casket with a Ravens logo. I believe we will turn it around soon. We had a great draft class this past season, a couple core pieces in place, and a hell of a coach. We are close, just not there yet and they know that. So, don't let the door hit ya in the butt walking out of Ravens Nation. We don't need ya.

don't kid yourself into thinking this team is close. they could have been 5-11 easily. we barely can beat the browns and jags. flacco cannot make an audible to change a play and we are paying him 24 million dollars. furthermore, they have invested first round picks the past 2 years to help Joe plus paid Wallace, and yet the offense is getting worse. that does not add up to a good football team.

Well apart from the fact that John Harbaugh has chosen Hara-kiri as his 2017 strategy, it is sad that the Baltimore Ravens have to be part of this 'Sepukku'. He is proving to be too dogmatic to be successful as a head coach. He seems to take comfort with familiarity no matter the outcome. So, here's to the demise of our Baltimore Ravens defensive identity and say hello to our failed new identity - the constant pass throwing but not necessarily completing 3 and out juggernaut of 2017!

I'm hoping that someone is grilling Mornhinweg about using a playbook that's actually good next year. Since now he's got 7 months to work on it.

I am as big a ravens fan as anyone, but there is more to life than football and the Ravens winning...

With that being said, we need more than just continuity in the coaching ranks, which, I assume is why they took the first step in keeping Mornhinweg. More than that, we need players on the OL who can stay healthy, we need quality depth at certain positions, we need to upgrade at WR in-particular, and we need Joe to have a fully healthy off-season. We had some decent players this year, but as I saw all year, we really need some play makers on the outside who can earn Joe's trust. As much as I want Perriman to succeed, he really needs to improve his hands and route running, or else he will flame-out in short order.

Continuity is good Only if you have the right coaches and we DON'T

One good thing I'll save money by not getting the ticket next season. Ravens will be really bad next season. With a tough schedule and no real change to shake things up and an old and slow roster and a vanilla playbook on both sides of the ball. No sense in wasting money. Wake me in 2019.

OK, if that's the decision, then that's the decision.
There's one thing I was sorely missing from Harbaugh's presser: we all know the good old definition of craziness: to do the same thing expecting a different result. As I wouldn't want to feel crazy, I would welcome an explanation from Harbaugh: if the O remains the same, why should we expect a different result than past season. Actually, "this season" - but for the Ravens it's the past season...

So, John: if the O is going to be the same, what should we fans base our hopes of a better-than-mediocre offense, and a QB that actually looks like he cares when out on the field?

OKay.... I have mixed emotions about this one.

The Pro's
1. Joe Flacco will get some consistency at the OC position
(a luxury that he simply has not had)

2. Marty did seem to improve as the season wore on
(we played well offensively in our toughest games. Pats, Pitt, Miami under Marty)

3. He will have an entire season to prepare
(not try to take over in mid-swing)

4. He is now familiar with the personnel on the team and knows what we need to add and subtract moving forward.

5. Harbs is comfortable with Marty

The Cons
1. Marty was as inconsistent as any other OC we had in his 11 games

2. Marty didn't seem to make in-game adjustments well
(most games under Marty- we scored on opening drives. the other team would adjust and we stalled for most of the game beyond that and settled for FGs- what happens once teams have significant game footage on us... can he make those in game adjustments that he didn't do well with this year)?

3. Marty loses his top play maker (SSS) can we put pieces in place around him or can he adapt

4. Marty seemed to allow Joe Flacco to dictate too much (Joe complained and seemingly got what he wanted) and we ended up passing 49x per game. Will Marty have the respect to keep Joe Cool in check?

5. The top teams in the AFC right now are also offensive teams (Pats, Sqeelers, Raiders, etc.) these are teams who can score points. These are teams who move the ball with great consistency. Do we believe that Marty has what it takes to put us in that conversation?

I am now very confident about that last one but I am rooting for his success. We cannot afford to start 2017 digging a hole like we did with Trestman in 2016. Hope Marty spends a lot of time at some coaching clinics and visiting some college campuses, learning some innovative schemes that he can implement next season and make us more dangerous and less predictable.

I'm rooting for you Marty!

I was rooting for him to be fired because he is not a good OC. he makes lots of mistakes and he doesn't learn from them

It's totally impossible to make any sensible predictions for next season now. We won't even know their rosters in more than half a year...

This franchise is a TOTAL DISASTER. This is the worst position that the Ravens franchise has been in since moving from Cleveland. Bad, bad coaching, HORRIBLE drafts over the last 4 years (save for 2016 – but the jury is still out after only 1 year). No consistent playmakers on either side of the ball. Not a one. The most exciting player on the roster is the kicker. Joe seems to be continually regressing, staring down receivers, missing wide open receivers consistently, and eating up a MASSIVE amount of cap space. Just bad.

I was really hoping that Steve would recognize the need for change in certain areas and act accordingly.

It is a shame that the fans who faithfully support this team emotionally and financially may have to sit through another disappointing year.

A lot of us don't realize the defense is a mess as well. They got blasted by the good teams. Old , slow and no play makers. Padded their stats against the weak team in the early part of the year. Sorry if I'm going nuts today, but its frustrating being a Ravens fan when you realize its going to take YEARS to get this team back to a 11 win team.

The offense did improve but im still disappointed by this. Marty does not mix in the run with the pass well. This ground game needs to flourish under a zone blocking scheme minded  coordinator.

Yep, the O did improve - but they improved from a miserable level to an OK-if-you're-the-Jets level. It's like a kid who, after a series of F's and E's brings home a D. That is undoubtedly an improvement... I still wouldn't call it a cause for jubilation ;)

Agree with you for the most part. Maybe toss Wallace in. Some Fans over evaluate talent just like the coaching staff does. We have a few IMPACT Players and LOTS of Roster Fillers.

Wallace leads the team in 50+ yard receptions, that sounds like a playmaker to me. Kyle is the best fullback per pro football focus. So I'd give him three on his list including Smith Sr.

I like Wallace but he's just not that, "playmaker" cat to me.

Going forward w/o SSS, would you guys consider Wallace to be your "go to guy?"

WR's whose primary trick is speed are seldom go-to guys. Those are usually mid-range guys: possession receivers and TE's. "By default" Flacco's go-to guys now should be Pitta.

Watching Joe in this West Coast offense is like watching someone haul mulch with a Ferrari - you can do it, but it just ain't right.

LOL! except I would say a horse driven carriage running the INDY 500 maybe... the West Coast offense is timing and anticipation based which takes a lot of work with available receivers to develop chemistry with. But, Flacco has shown no such inclination nor does he possess the vision or the football intellect of a Manning or Brady or even a Rodgers to anticipate what defenses do to combat the west coast offense. So, while your analogy is exaggerated it is apt.

that's not so most games receivers were not open even play by play would say receivers could not get separation that's because our routes are the same and way to predictable good oc's make small changes week to week but not marty Ive seen his act before In Detroit ,jets ,philly fired from all 3 where their smokes there is fire

I don't like this move to keep MM in the least. The stats lie, just like they lie with Pees, but I've seen progression there. I've not seen anything from MM to make me think he will do anything better next season, unless they change the offense (AGAIN, which they said they don't want to do, they want to keep consistency). They abandoned the deep ball, running the ball, and play action - all of which Joe excels with. So they took away his strengths. They make it super easy on the defense, they can stop anything they try.

The only thing I can think of is that Gary said he was stepping away for a year and then may come back in a limited role, and they figure they can get him back if this fails. Only way this makes sense. However given that they are trying it, I don't give them enough credit to even be thinking that right now.

I mean, every single year you let Castillo run the O-line, we have a 0.500 or a loosing season and the line stinks and the running game stinks. We even have an exception in the series where he was "fired by promotion" and the line looked great and the running game was amazing. Good lord, what more do you need to see where the problems are coming from?

Anyone notice the Patriots changed O-line coaches last year and their line fell apart? They begged their retired coach to come back and with nearly the same players they have a great O-line.

You know what Yanda said he liked the best about Castillo in an interview? That he was a grinder. He had nothing positive to say about anything other than he worked hard. Well, working hard is great, but you also need to teach and coach. A good O-line coach can make the line better, a bad one can just work hard.
