[News] Joe Flacco, Dennis Pitta Set A Pair Of Team Records In Finale

39 posts in this topic

Quarterback Joe Flacco passed Vinny Testaverde for the most single-season passing yards, and Dennis Pitta surpassed Todd Heap for the most receptions by a tight end in a single season. Kicker Justin Tucker didn't get to attempt a field goal from 50 yards or beyond to set another record, however.

kudos to Dennis for the grit and determination to come back from two of the worst injuries I have seen in pro football. Joe... not so much. If he has any real interest in winning he does a pretty good job of camouflaging it. I think his jolly demeanor, laughing it up with Ben, as the Ravens were leaving the field in Pittsburg last week says it all.

When #5 doesn't throw it to anyone else but Pitta this is going to happen. You would of thought Pitta was the one retiring after this game the way he was fed the ball. It was sad to watch our joke of a QB fail our Offense again, especially for Smitty's last game..

Who gives a crap about their team records? That doesn't mean squat. We have a mediocre quarterback being paid first rate money and we are stuck with him. He was absolutely abysmal in the loss to Cincinnati. Of course, the Swiss cheese defense did its part, but, good grief, another killer stupid interception in the end zone, just like in Pittsburgh. Why isn't Mallet allowed to play? Harbaugh is a hard headed moron. Won't make a change for the good of the team. Maybe Mallet isn't the answer, but Flacco has regressed. When he plays badly he should be taken out to give the team a chance to win. Instead Harbaugh either doesn't have the guts to do it or he worries about individual ego instead of what is best for the team. The sooner they fire him the better.

Mallet did play.  He attempted two passes, one of which was intercepted.

Football isn't about breaking records......it's about wins. I believe Flacco was feeding his buddy to break the TE reception record....
This was a disgrace....there are teams that need a mediocre QB.....why not trade and get some help in other areas of need?
I know we are stuck with him.....so I guess this is just a useless rant.....

I have followed Baltimore Football since the Colts came to town....first time ...I'm ashamed of my Team...not just players, but coaches and front office...there is something wrong here and drafting better is not going to solve it...IMHO

Complete baloney. Say what you will about Joe's performance, but to accuse him of trying to pad his buddy's stats to break a record (a record I'd wager he knew nothing of), even if it meant losing the game, is nonsense.

How many drops did Pitta have? Also, the interception from the 2 yard line was because Joe was zeroing in on Pitta all game and nobody could peel Joe's eyes away from Pitta and he didn't or wouldn't see any Bengals player nearby. It was truly disappointing to see us not run the ball from the 2 yd line on first down and ended up tossing an INT. So, clearly neither Marty or Flacco learned much from the Philly game.

Everything must be on the table for Bisciotti to assess. The HC, QB, the front office et al. I truly believe that. 3 yrs in a row we haven't had a winning season. Its not acceptable. If nothing changes after 3 yrs of the same crew, then the crew must go.

It was one of the stranger games I've seen. I was thinking the same exact thing. It was almost disrespectful to SSSr. in my view. I saw some plays when SSS would be open and yet Flacco would squeeze a throw in tight coverage to Pitta. Why I wonder?

Great job Flacco of sending off SSS by throwing mainly to you're bff Pitta more then SSS.

Only 2 players were able to get consistently open, and they were Pitta and SSS. Pitta was open on nearly every play, where Smith was not.. Please review the footage.

Pitta needs to be off this team. No disrespect, but mediocre Joe looking for his bff on every play is disgraceful. I don't really care if they wanted the record or not, but for Joe this has become habitual, and since we're stuck with him for 2-3 years, this is the only way out. Oh, and did I also mention Pitta sucks at blocking.
While you're at it, fire Marty and Dean Pees as well and keep Harbaugh on a short leash. He seems to not knowing how to motivate players except against the Steelers (which also seems to be diminishing). Also, he is terrible at clock management and his cuteness has cost us critical games that seem to come back and haunt us in the final stretch.

we all have opinions.....that includes you.....that said, u gave no more proof about what was in flacco's head then I did...but reading the rest of these posts....I was not the only one to see him constantly target pitta....next opinion is that pitta will retire.....with a record

Trent Dilfer has a super bowl ring and he was terrible also ! He broke  records today by throwing 14 ints, 20 tds. and average 1 td a game ! What loser.

Just let Joe Flacco Join Trent Dilfer as the 2 worst super bowl  QBs

One less TD than Russell Wilson
MORE TDs than Cam Newton, Ryan Tannehill, Andy Dalton, Carson Wentz, Alex Smith

Less INTs than Drew Bress, Philip Rivers, Jameis Winston, Eli Manning

Fact: Since winning the super bowl, in the past 4 years, Flacco hasn't finished in the top ten for qb rating- yet, Ozzie made him the highest paid qb, and then for God knows what reason then restructured Flacco's contract recently and gave him even more money.. Flacco isn't elite, but he sure is being paid like one. And his buddy Pitta might not be around next year because his cap number is high, so in a way, Flacco is not doing his buddy, pitta, any favors next year because we still don't have a lot of cap space, and we might not be able to afford pitta anymore..

Not sure why you mentioned Brees here but flacco has the same amount of INT as him but gets utterly destroyed in every other statistic.

Also you do know flacco has almost 100 more pass attempts then pretty much everyone you listed right?

I mean flacco had 672 pass attempts while wilson only had 546 yet Wilson has 1 more TD.
Tannehill attempted only 389 passes and has 1 less TD then flacco.
cam newton 510 pass attempts and 1 less TD.

not sure if you are trying to support flacco but you are making a terrible case if you want to compare him to those guys lol

wentz about the only guy you could make a case for but comparing an 9 year vet to a rookie seems pretty odd tbh....

Not so fast- you claimed to know what Joe was up to, and I said that was ridiculous. Now, you say it was only an opinion- then go om to cite others opinions as proof.

For 672 pass attempts, Flacco should have easily broke 5000 yards. That's a nice accomplishment for Pitta coming back from where he was at. On the other hand, It's not a great stat considering Pitta was joe's first, second and third look on most passing plays and most of his catches were in the 2-6 yard range.

Shouldn't be hard to set a record with Pitta when we essentially ran the Pitta or nothing offense for most of the season.

It's all complete bologna until it isnt. Some said it was unthinkable that the Ravens wouldn't play to win yesterday. Then they didnt. Some said SSS might come back for another year. But he's not. Point is Flacco and Pitta are very good friends. Friends talk. Do you not think Pitta knew he was close to breaking a record? Players tell the media they dont care about records but of course they do. To think any different is a little naive.
