Ravens secondary was a huge offseason focus - add Jefferson and Carr. Now about to retain Webb at lower $. And could draft CB high as well

Jason La Canfora‏ @JasonLaCanfora

Ravens are nearing a deal to bring safety Lardarius Webb back into the fold. Versatile vet with deep ties in Baltimore

I like the idea of having Webb back but I'm not getting my hopes up until someone other than La Canfora reports it.

@dablessed1ej They're working on it. They've been last couple of days. They're close but nothing done yet

Yeah once mangold left the building without a deal I assumed the high probability free agent signing would be either webby or doom

Webb coming back at a reduced salary is a huge addition.  Really helps out depth and versatility.

Cornerbacks - Smith, Young, Carr

Safeties - Weddle, Jefferson

Hybrid S/CB - Webb

That is a pretty darn good core.  Plus add in whoever we likely draft in the first 3 rounds, a combination of young talent (Canady/Daniel/Price/Rolle) and a vet (one of Arrington or Powers most likely on a vet minimum deal)

I have yet to see anything on Dumervil out there since he was cut.  Would it be crazy for him to return on a vet minimum type deal with NLTBE incentives for sacks?

In an ideal world we re-sign Webb & Dumervil for vet minimum type deals, get Mangold & Dunlap for $2-3M a year over 2-3 years to stretch out the cap him.  We ready to draft with no glaring holes.

Are Dunlap and clady cuts or free agents? Makes a difference as to our likelihood of signing them...

I really want Mangold here. Please make it happen, it could be a game changer for the offensive line.

webb better be veteran minimum signing

He will get more than that. I could see $2-3M maybe.

I really hope Webb comes back. Been an underrated player on this defense and while maybe he isn't the biggest playmaker, he is a very good player who never seems to be the weak part of the defense. His ability to play multiple positions as well would help the Ravens.

But now that I am excited about him coming back he will sign elsewhere lol

After our next signing, we are about done. Last I read is that we only have $6.5 million in cap. We need about $5 million for our rookie contracts. So we basically have none to sign other guys at this time.

I think it is coming down to signing Webb or Mangold at this point. Looks like we are trying to stack the secondary while taking a blow to other areas on the field.

Still could be cuts, though. I doubt they keep both Watson and Pitta on the roster, and you also got a guy like Arrington who we are probably waiting to get healthy so we can cut him.

Can create cap space for draft picks if we need to certainly.

I think bringing Webb back would be a super underrated move. The best way to use Jefferson is to move him around: blitz him, let him follow TE's, play him as the nickel linebacker, stuff like that. Webb held his own last year when he moved to safety and was not a liability. Anything that makes the team more flexible in the secondary is a good move imo.

I agree and if I had to choose between Mangold and Webb I think I would choose Webb. He has been here for so many years and would give the secondary more depth. I know the offense has been neglected this offseason like it always seems to be, but if this team is going anywhere in the playoffs it will be riding the defense.

I'd be all for Webb over Mangold. But I'm also one of the people who thinks Mangold is done.

Jeff Zrebiec‏ @jeffzrebiecsun

Ravens WR Michael Campanaro is signing a new deal with Ravens. It will be a 1-year deal with a max value of $2 mill, per sources.

Wasn't he already under contract? Is this the team rewarding him for still being a raven or something?

They tender him so they just took off  the tender and just sign him instead.

Move on from Webb. We are drafting a corner in the first 3 rounds anyway and need to give younger guys like Canady more playing time.

Is Canady not a corner? Webb will provide safety depth.

Canady looked promising in camp and has good measurables at the position but he hasn't earned playing time and webby won't affect his playing time anyway given that he is a free safety at this point while canady is most definitely an outside corner

Tenders are fully guaranteed. So even though he can make more on his new deal with incentives and a roster bonus, he can be released without as big of a cap hit.
