Orr maybe this is it...

It does seem strange to have a press conference just for Orr, I wonder if there are other deals done that we are going to find out about tomorrow.

Don't think I've ever seen a presser for a player contract before its out on twitter.

They are just back from their meeting in florida. Someone could be stepping aside.

Does Pees be at that? He is almost 70

Sounds strange to hear it's for a player. I just heard from Mike Preston on 105.7 that the fans won't be happy. I won't speculate on what this means and Mike tends to exaggerate a bit so we'll see I guess.

I know it's not the end all be all of determining factors, but I was very surprised to see how poorly PFF graded Orr out in run support and in pass coverage.

There wasn't too much talk about that around here. He made a couple nice flash plays every game. Was he really that big of a problem in those plays that he wasn't noticeable?

I think Orr is a mix of underrated and overrated if that's even possible.  When I watched him all year, he looks like a solid, dependable starter, which is more than fine in his first year really playing any large role.  He can always get better of course, but I think some people think he's a lot better and worse than he really is.

I'll touch on those who think he's better first.  He had his struggles in coverage.  The picks look nice but there were a good amount of games where he was being targeted over and over again because he couldn't keep his man covered.  Now, those weeks did come when we had health issues at CB and he was forced into coverage.  They tried not to use him in coverage as much as they could.  Some people will also look at the number of tackles which also doesn't really mean too much.  I think he was well above average in run support, but not because of the tackle numbers.

Now, for those who think he's worse - I don't see how that's the case unless those coverage grades really brought him down.  He wasn't perfect against the run but played pretty consistently well over the course of the season.

My guess is they've completed the coaching changes.

Have a hard time believing they'd call a press conference for that, though.  We mix and match position and assistant coaches every year and there's never been a presser.

Agreed. It's also a major presser on a Friday and occurs on the same day as the inauguration. There are no leaks on the subject, so if it was a positive announcement I don't think the timing would be appropriate. Sounds more like something the Ravens want to announce but with time for it to die down right before championship playoff weekend.

Ozzie retiring? Feels a little tinfoil-hatty to say that but as has been said you've got to imagine it's something big. What time's the presser? I'm curious about what it's about now, haha.

I believe it's 1100 EST. I don't know if it's Ozzie but I can't imagine it's Eric leaving because another organization would have already hired him and it would've been leaked. If John, he would've probably been fired by now. I did find it strange Ozzie did so little talking at the recent presser.

Suggs retiring? Just a thought.

I think Suggs already said he's coming back.

Looking around at Twitter this morning, it doesn't sound like it will be an extension or anything.  No one really knows what it is, but I'm also seeing others echo the "fans won't like it" sentiment.

i saw on another thread the ravens ending their agreement with CSN mid atlantic... could the announcement be that their local coverage is going somewhere thats not part of the basic cable package and requires an additional subscription charge??

I could see that being something that "fans wont be happy about."

Not in the baltimore market.... so trying to find something that wont actually make me unhappy.

Doubt they're bringing out Ozzie and Harbaugh for that.  That sounds like more of a press release from Cass type of thing.

it might be jimmy smith or yanda retiring...think about the injuries...

I doubt it. Neither has had significant enough injuries for that i dont think. Plus they usually announce the player that will be attending the press conference if i remember correctly.

Orr perhaps doesn't cost too much to retain?

We'll see. I have a feeling he might get more than we're expecting, especially after the year he had.

I would wager it's be bad news. Friday's are always the best days for a "news dump," especially on a Friday like today with the inauguration going on.

And, as much as people hate him, Mike Preston has probably been right more than he's been wrong. He's covered the Ravens since 96. You better believe he knows every person in that building and has his finger on the pulse.

Dang that sucks for Orr. I was a little concerned about his injury after he injured his neck but wasn't sure if it was serious but i guess it is.

Well then... :(:(:(

Wow!  That is heartbreaking for Orr.  UDFA finally had his breakthrough season, and now this happens!  Best wishes to him and his family moving forward!

I think losing Orr makes keeping Brandon Williams even more important. Orr was probably our best run defender on the team at the inside linebacker position.

What's weird is looking at this page... the tweet above indicating significant progress on a contract for Orr and then Orr retiring.

Someone got something completely wrong. How were they close on a contract if he was telling them he was retiring? The two statements just dont seem to add up.

La Canfora is a terrible reporter, almost as bad as Jason Cole.

Maybe La Canfora was hiding in the bushes outside the castle and is the world's worst lip reader

Well - he was half right ... right player, wrong news. I liked his initial speculation better than the reality.
