What if this was how our first 3 rounds went?

Ok before you see the short list.......don't shoot me with my #1 pick.....I will explain. Also this is not a mock....Just MY of what looks good to me in this early. Please tell mewhat you think or give me your ideas. Here we go.

ROUND 1- David Njoku TE rSo  6-4 240 Miami

I know some of you will be like What the heck? is wrong with this guy....a TE with the first pick. Let me explain my thought process before you dont look any further down the list. I personally think this is a weak class for CB's and DE/OLB's with the best Day 1 options gone by probably the 15th pick. I also think this is a weak OLINE class as well with 1 tackle and maybe 1 guard worth a top 20 pick ( We are #17 at the moment). So I honestly went with BPA that can help this team Day 1. Enter David Njoku....he is a beast. He is big, strong, EXTREMELY athletic with good hands. He honestly reminds me alot of Antonio Gates and is only a rSo. So lets get REAL...I explainded why we dont go D with this pick ( Maybe, I will list other options) with the blue chippers gone. There is no monster Olineman worth this pick and there are ZERO WR's at this pick (Those are our most stiking needs DE, CB,Oline and WR). So lets find another area of need and since we have a checkdown QB who loves his TE's let give him IMO the best in this draft. Currently we have Pitta who stayed heathy but forgot how to catch and is still an injury concern, Williams cant stay heathy, Gilmore is hit or miss and Boyle....well....plus Watson shouldnt be in this conversation due to age and coming off major injury. So to me......a gamebreaking TE is a NEED. Plus Ozzie like BPA guys......unless Howard from Bama is there. We know how he is with Bama boys.

Another possible option that should be available is: Jabrill Peppers S/LB  again a need but where does he play. Again this is why I believe Njoku is a safe bet.

The UNMOCK list. For rounds 2 and 3 I have listed 4 players......all need but since the combine hasnt happened yet Ive seen these guys listed between the 1st and 4th rounds....so who knows how high or low they go. In a perfect world.......

Pat Elflein C Sr 6-2 300 Ohio State falls to us in the 2nd where I have seen him mocked around our pick to going in the 1st round....again perfect world

I believe Center is a huge need. Zuttah is not horrible but is not good either. I wouldnt mind keeping him as either a guard or backup guard/center. I think Elfein can step in year 1 and be our anchor for a long time. Remember the beatiful days of Matt Burk and having a Center that actually blocked.....well. Elfein gives us agood run and pass blocker and 2 young long term interior lineman (Stanley being the other) that we dont need to replace yearly....or weekly and obviously Yanda until he calls it quits. Not bad having to find 2 more starters going into next season with 5 on the roster to choose from. This should make Joe happy too.

Now the following names can be plug in:

-Tyler Orlosky C Sr 6-3 295  WVU

Another good Center should be there in the 3rd if Elfein is gone.

-Tre'Davious  White CB  Sr  5-11 192 LSU

Will be the in the 2nd and fills a need. A great tackler and plays the ball and not the player.

-Cordrea Tankersley CB  Sr  6-00 200 Clemson

Will there in the 2nd and possibly 3rd. Long, athletic and can be great in man coverage when he stays calm. Has the size and tools to be good at the next level.

I know there are no DE/OLB on the list and can see us going that route too. However with IMO Suggs and DOOM both coming back and a couple young guys on the roster. I just think we could go this route. Give me your thoughts or better ideas for players.

TE is our strongest position and OLB/DE and CB are the strongest positions in the draft...

You sure about that? We've invested money into a broken TE with a bad hip who doesn't get much YAC, doesn't block and doesn't separate we'll and doesn't reliably catch like he once did and then we have a time bomb in Boyle who could face a 1year suspension with another failed drug test, a TE who can't stay healthy or doesn't show enough yet in Williams, and then we have a converted WR into a TE who may become something but also got suspended recently.

This isn't what I'd call deep

Kind of confusing on how you did this, but yea, TE in the first, no thanks.  No CB or pass rusher in the first two, no thanks....

TE is definitely a position we need to get better production from. I don't know if the production we need is or isn't on the roster but we have bigger needs right now. The 1st rounder should go to a edge rusher or corner.

Njoku's hands aren't the greatest, but they improved during the latter half of this year. Physically, he's imposing and possesses superior athleticism. Is a high jumper, as was evidenced by a couple of plays this season (against West Virginia in the Russell Athletic bowl and I think against Pitt). According to Miami coaches, he's been clocked from 4.49-4.50 in the 40 yard dash. From what I've seen, I think mid 4.5s sounds about right. Takes a while to get going, but once he's on the move, he's moving pretty fast. Was used more this year, especially vertically. Very strong, breaks a lot of tackles. Not afraid to block, but wasn't used in that capacity. Was lined up in the slot. Chris Herndon, the other TE, is the more complete TE and was used more as a blocker. He will be drafted next year as well. Technically, still has a ways to go. Needs work on route running and some of the subtleties of the game. Good kid, clean off the field. Comes from a good family. His brother will be attending Miami next season.

- I haven't delved deeply into the nuances of this class so far but I've spent this entire evening looking at edge rushers and I'd refute your point that it's a thin de/olb class - at a first glance it looks like the deepest I've seen it for years with potential stars all over it

- just as a good rule it is wise to assume that not many dbs are going before the tenth pick in the draft - jalen Ramsey is an outlier rather than the rule

- ol does look thin - the best tackle might be cam Robinson and if I could pick a position in the NFL for him it would be guard

- and tight ends are historically just not a good pick in the 1st round - they develop slowly and often it's more of a lottery than other positions - it's very rare you find a superstar tight end and if anything it's a position where a 1st rounder is safer but almost never spectacular - make a list of the top tight ends in the league and you'll find that the number of 1st rounders is pretty low

- just thinking about bpa - the stronger the depth the more likely good players fall at the position so I think there's a high possibility we have a choice of good edge guys at either 16 or 48

I'd go:

Round 1: CB Sydney Jones (starting CB w/ Jimmy Smith and Tavon Young)

Round 2: CB Adoree Jackson (use as a scatback, slot receiver, punt returner-  develop as a CB that can fill in as a slot CB for depth)

Round 3: Oline Center

Round 3: Oline Guard

Re-sign Wagner at RT, restructure Dumervil, hope one of Correa and Kaufusi develop as a pass rusher. Address Pass Rusher in 2018 or sign a situational pass rusher.

I'm really tired of hearing and seeing DB as being an area of concern every year. With this year's crop of CB's, we should target this position specifically. There are so many of them. What proves to be true is that you have to draft a CB or overpay them in Free Agency. Few if any of our CB's signed as free agents have turned into much. Better to draft the DBs and go the free agent route for WR's.

1st.) Cam Robinson- I say we get someone who could make our offensive line from weak to top 10 in a couple years assuming we stay healthy. Imagine having Ronnie Stanley, and Cam Robinson as our tackles, could become as good as Lewan and Conklin as a rising pair of tackles.I say we let go of Rick Wagner and use that money to retain B Williams

2nd.) Tre'Davious White- As many here i love this kid one of the best cover corners ive seen in a couple years, yes he has his tackling problems but i think with Frazier improving our secondary like this year he could become decent at tackling. If White joined us he could help make our secondary elite even if/when Jimmy goes down pairing with Young and Weddle(who could help mentor him).

3rd.) Cooper Kupp- This may be suprising to you guys because he come from a small school, but this kid is sure handed, great after the catch, and could help Flacco move the chains while he is here. I see him as a Jordy Nelson type with hands and YAC, definitely the gem of this draft in my opinion.

3rd.) Tyler Orlosky- Good center to hopefully replace zuttah who is a flag machine and absolute trash. This kid may be something special great bend and is incredibly smart to pair along with a young O Line if we get Robinson to go with Lewis Stanley and Yanda

Going to stop here because it will be hard to predict after this on who goes where
