My favorite is grades for guys like Lamar Louis, Keenan Reynolds, Chris Lewis-Harris, and Buck Allen who didn't or barely played.

QB: D, severely underperformed, knee injury a valid but weak excuse

RB: B- running game was hard to rate based off completely being abandoned.

TE: D , Watson never played, maxx injured again, Gilmore out almost entire year and injured again.

WR: C,  Wallace good overall, Aiken below average, Perriman is a ghost sometimes shows up other times is invisible .

O-Line: C , Yanda, Wagner and Stanley look great, Lewis is solid , Zuttah can't anchor to save his life.

D-Line: C Jernigan is a ghost as well, very inconsistent. pierce is a steal, Williams is good but whole line got punked last month of season .

LB:B,  Mosley and Orr are good. Judon looks good for a small school rookie. Suggs looks done pass rushing wise and is surviving on veteran knowledge and dumervil is just ok now. McClellan and smith need to never play.

CB:D, tavon exceeded any expectations , smith is great when he actually played. Shareece stinks, powers stinks. Secondary is a constant issue with this team.

S: B Weddle was great but I think FS suits him better at this stage , Webb is slow.

OC: D-, flacco throwing the most passes in he league should never happen.

DC: C- ,pees doesn't adapt and his defenses collapse regularly with a lead .

HC: C, coach is responsible for his staff, also for his teams lack of discipline. Still riding off that Super Bowl season. This year really should have been put up or shut up. No excuse to lose to the jets.

Overall: D, this team was thought to be a playoff team and contender and they showed they had inflated stats and wins vs bottom scraping teams. Front office fails to deliver or improve the secondary enough to solve previous season issues. Correa looks like the next in line of a pattern of failed second round picks ( brown, maxx has shown nothing, correa).

QB: C +.  Not a good year- threw a lot of interceptions and way too many check downs.despite that he put us into position to win alot of games- he gave us the lead late in several games only for our defense to falter and give it up. Gotta take into account he was coming off a torn ACL..and once again was forced to work with a new coordinator midseason- yet he still set a new franchise record in yards. Don't think he was utilized properly and you could see his frustration. His receivers didnt make many plays for him- alot of dropped balls and no YAC. Still displayed the bad habit of throwing off his backfoot and failing to step up in the pocket. He improved over the year though as i believe he got more comfortable with his leg. So overall I give him a slightly above average grade .

RB: B -    hard to evaluate this position. I think we all were surprised by West bursting into the scene and becoming the number 1. Not sure why they seemed to basically give up on Allen. Forsett was a disappointment but Dixon showed major flashes and could be a real stud. Quite simply though they were underutilized... Didn't get nearly enough carries- and that's no fault of their own. Strictly going off of their body of work I'd say it was good - plenty of room for improvement...particularly in pass protection. But a lot of that is on the coaches.

TE: D+   Major let down here. What was supposed to be the most stacked position and " the best group in the NFL " basically fell apart. Watson went down in preseason- Crock  stayed hurt - Maxx showed zero improvement and also stayed hurt- Boyle got suspended and Pitta couldn't block a fly. Waller showed some positive signs and make big strides- esp making the conversion from WR. There were so many plans and all this big talk about double and triple tight end sets- and if not for Pitta bailing this group out and leading the team in receptions I would've givin them a big ole F.

WR: C.   Wallace started off hot but tapered off big time in the second half of the season.still put up 1000. Steve showed he still had gas in the tank and showed some explosiveness even after coming off the injury at 37. Perriman did pretty much what I expected from him his first real year. Started slowly but as he got comfortable he showed some real flashes. I don't think he was targeted enough though. A few concentration drops but came out the gate making the plays that came his way and made countless impressive catches. Moore was a complete bust. Finished with under 75 yards I believe.  Several key drops. Made plays on ST but major disappointment for a guy many of us had high hopes for. Hard to get a gauge on Aiken. He was obviously pushed back in the pecking order due to Wallace and steve- plus we had to attempt to develop Perriman. He would dissapear for awhile and then come up with huge catches very randomly...but overall he underachieved this year. Tough call on whether to bring him back. Wide receivers as a whole were a very average group who failed to make many big plays or get significant YAC. Once again- a lot has to do with the lack of a running attack- becoming 1 dimensional and the play calling..but still, very average.

O-Line: B+    a lot to be excited about here for the future. Stanley had a great rookie campaign along with lewis. Yanda was the mauler he always was and even played hurt and switched positions.  Wagner played well. Ducasse was up and down and caused a lot of penalties. Hurst is no better though. The only one who really underachieved and prevented this group from getting an A was Zuttah. He pretty much sucked it up and was a liability all year long. Overall this group did well and kept Joe clean for the most part. And that's saying alot when we started two rookies on Joe's left side. Upgrade the center position and retain Wagner and we're in very good shape here.

D-Line:  C +.  Another one that was tough to guage. Started off the year red hot and it looked like nobody was getting an inch through the running game. Then in the last quarter of the season they just ran out of gas and collapsed. I don't know if they got out schemed or if they just got tired ..but it hurt to see them finish like that. Didn't get much qb pressure from them either so again- average.

LB: A-   The only A on the team . Mosley got past that little sophomore slump and returned to top form. He also got much better in coverage as seen by his interceptions. The UDFA Orr also bursted onto the scene and led the team in tackles.  Doom was obviously playing hurt and disappointed- but Suggs showed that he still had it, even after tearing his bicep. He slowed over the course of the year ,but after all he is on the back 9, and like I said he had a freakin torn bicep. A lot of what he does doesn't show up in the stats. ZSmith was a major letdown( hopefully a sophomore slump) but the addition of Judon kind of offset that. I was kind of upset to not see Levine used here hardly at all..BC I thought he would've done well there..but the play of Orr may have made that hard to do. More pass rushers are needed- and I almost split the grades between ILB and OLB..BC obviously one is lacking more than the other- but as a whole I'm gonna still give this group an A-

CB: C+    could've been a great group if Jimmy had stayed healthy, but the dropoff when he doesn't play is far too evident. Shareece failed to live up to expectations after a huge first game teasing us lol..but Tavon Young atleast played so well that he showed he could even play on the outside. Powers was up and down- but as much as he was raved about during camp he didn't live up to that.

S: B+    Weddle was a HUGE addition. Not only from his play but his leadership was key. His positive attitude was contagious and rubbed off on the entire team. He didn't play perfectly and gave up 2 or 3 big plays- but the improvement here cannot be overstated and he was snubbed from the pro bowl. Webb also did a good job...he's taken a lot of flack but overall I saw him have a pretty solid year. Him and Webb looked good back there and were a solid duo...they didn't give up many big splash plays and they made a lot of tackles. Was hoping Elam could've made an impact in his return but he didn't really do anything, and Levine didn't really get any playing time. Kendrick Lewis probably shouldn't have made the roster in hindsight, and is an obvious cut this off season.. Webb also has a pretty high cap number  but  we will see what happens. As far as play on the feild the year- they did very well.

OC: F -    What an atrocity. From trestman to Marty , it got no better. The things we thought Marc got fired for- Marty did the exact same if not MORE. made no sense. Zero commitment to running game and nothing but excuses. They kept saying every game is different and the flow of the game dictates the run/pass ratio yet every single game no matter the situation we just kept on passing. First and goal from the 2. Pass. 3rd and 12- check down. Just completely backwards- constantly throwing short of the sticks. You can blame this on Joe if you want- but when you become one dimensional its hard for receivers to get open- and we've seen what Joe can do with a successful running game with balance. The play action was completely ineffective and it was just like both OCs were completely oblivious. Total failure and the downfall of this team IMO.

DC: C.    Being top 5 in the league in several categories means your obviously doing something right. But when things went array and not according to plan it seems like pees never had a plan B and just has trouble making in game adjustments. The breakdowns at the end of games and that damn prevent defense was the death of us. The offense gave us the lead late in the fourth in 4 or 5 games I can remember and instead of staying aggressive we played to not lose instead of playing to win.  The defense collapsed and cost us at the very least 3 games. And IMO  it was the soft playcalling. We did manage to get a ton more turnovers this year- but I think that obviously had more to do with Leslie Frazier than it did pees- whom is a good potential in-house candidate to precede pees. Yet again- average.

HC: B-   Harbaugh always does a good job getting the guys ready to go and inspiring his team. He didn't get much help from his staff this year and they let him down and made him look bad alot- yet he still took responsibility.. As he should.  He made a lot of aggressive decisions that paid off. Many of them got overlooked in all the chaos of winning or losing...but a few of them backfired and ofcourse went under the microscope. The main thing that continues to plague him and he's failed to correct is the clock management. Been an issue for quite some time and they keep saying it will get fixed and it never does. No urgency whatsoever ( a lot of that is on the players as well ) but they always seem to have trouble getting the plays called in situations where time is of essence. Instead of just letting Joe do his thing( which seems to work best) they keep a leash on him and just lackadaisically move along. ( sometimes this is also on the OC) ..we could be down 10 points with 5 minutes left and we're just taking our good ole time like it's all good. And often we come up just a few seconds or few yards short. We take timeouts at inopportune times and dont seem to value them. Once again we just overall need to manage the clock better. Harbaugh is a great leader and he's not the problem here - but he DOES need to do more to fix things.

Overall -  C     average team with an average record. Showed glimpses of greatness and had the ability to go on a run and hang with any team in the league.. But we always came up just short..literally by  inches. We could've been 12-4 and we could've been 6-10.. Just another one of them years where nearly every game came down to 1 or 2 plays..and we lacked the playmakers to make them. We had several games within grasp and we just let them slip away. We were undisciplined and highly penalized..but I think its pretty easy to see that most of the blame can be placed on the coordinators on both sides of the ball. Players have to execute..but coaches have to put them in position to win ..and the play calling was atrocious. We played to not lose instead of playing to win..when we were able to finish we got off to too slow of a start and when we started fast we weren't able to finish. Typical Ravens. An improvement from last year- but nowhere near up to our standards. Almost doesn't cut it , and a  .500 record is indicative of exactly what we were- AVERAGE.

I'll do positional grading as well.

Offense

QB : C+, By any means not a good grade and definitely had its headaches, Joe's mechanics got worse this year and he often relied too much on Pitta which heavily inflated his numbers. Has to be more aggressive, stay in the pocket a bit longer, become more accurate and build chemistry with other plays. Breshad Perriman is a guy who he should build on with the most because of the massive potential that is there.

RB: C, Kenneth Dixon and Terrence West were bright spots, but a lot hindered on their abilities this season. Going to most of all need to run the ball more effectively and yes, more. That said, Dixon was impressive as a pass catcher and as a runner. Could have a big year next year if he stays healthy.

WR: B, Steve Smith Sr., what can I say? Godspeed to you and good luck in your future, always brought fire and passion that our offense needed, its going to be tough not to have him next season. Mike Wallace turned out to be a great signing and produced a 1,000 yard season, Breshad Perriman made plays and while he had his ups and downs, will continue to develop and in my opinion will be a beast. I can't wait for him to improve in his routes and build with Joe. Kamar Aiken however was a disappointment this year, got outplayed and bumped out by Breshad, didn't do enough to demand more targets.

TE: D+, By far the most disappointing unit of the offense IMO. Dennis Pitta resulted for most of the production but he was limited in many games this year, wasn't effective for a large part of many games this year and saw most of his productions on check downs, which Joe became too reliant upon. Others didn't even make a year 2 jump, Maxx Williams had an injured year and didn't register a single catch, Boyle was dealt with a suspension, blocked very well but that's what seemed was the only thing he was able to do. Waller showed flashes but did reveal that he's just not there yet and will be very hard to rely upon. Crockett Gilmore didn't make an impact as a TE2 and also experienced an injury riddled season.

OL: C+, This may seem like an unfair grade to give considering that Stanley had a strong rookie year, Yanda was being Yanda(A beast), Wagner having a pro bowl year and Lewis performance being encouraging but with all that said, as a unit they didn't mesh well. Didn't open a lot of running lanes and sometimes struggled in pass protection. The Ravens will need to upgrade the Center spot, Zuttah isn't bad but all great OLs have a great or pro bowl center there, if the Ravens want to field a better OL than they will need to get better at the C position.

Defense

DL: B, Struggled towards the end of the season but for most of the year they were a huge reason why we were a monster run stopping unit, Lawrence Guy is underrated, Jernigan made a splash during that stretch and Brandon Williams couldn't be moved.

LB: A-, Mosley had a big year, made plays everywhere and was a monster for this defense, Orr opposite of him had a breakout year and gave us a tremendous LB tandem. Nothing to criticize this unit for.

Pass Rush: C-, Suggs had a good year, but it stops right there. Kamalei Correa didn't make much of an impact, Za'Darius took a big step back, Doom didn't look the same and while that injury definitely effected things, I don't anticipate him coming back next year.

S: B+ , Weddle was great, best signing IMO and Webb was solid at FS. Think we did really well there.

CB: C+ or B-(Undecided really), I don't know what grade to give this unit. They looked like the most improved unit this year with Jimmy being a pro bowl caliber CB and Tavon Young giving us some good production in the slot, #2 spot was shaky but the CB group is a reason why this D was ranked #1 during the season. Not to mention statistically at one point in the season we had a top 5 secondary. Gotta give a bit of a pass for injuries.

Did Hurst got a B because of his great plays on the bench?
That's the only explanation I can see.

Weddle at B and the D-Line at C is a bit weird too, IMO.

OFFENSE

QB - C+ - Flacco was so up and down, but improved as the season went on. The fact that we all expected at least one bad decision/pick per game is just terrible. Early in the season he has the knee excuse, and it's a valid one that was apparent, and the complete incompetence of the oline at points, especially that 4 game L streak where half the line was out, have some to do with it. He's got some excuses but not enough to save his overall grade, he just needs to make some better decisions plain and simple.

RB - B+ - I saw what I needed to see to be happy with Dixon and West moving forward, especially Dixon. As the oline improved they obviously did as well, and by the end of the season when Dixon was healthy he was fantastic. As much as I want LT to be our #3, we need to bring in a new 3rd RB that'll contribute. LT just can't stay healthy and Buck doesn't provide anything now that Dixon is our preferred pass catcher out of the backfield and his ST ability isn't irreplaceable.

FB - A - Juice was great, at times it felt like he was our entire 3rd down offense and that superman act he put on vs. the Steelers made it apparent that at very least he's got a lot of heart, more than many players on this team can say based on their performance in the season finale.

WR - C+ - Nobody played particularly fantastic from what I saw. I mean, people blame Flacco, the line, the playcalling, etc. but at the end of the day there were many points in the season in which these guys simply just didn't get open. On the flip side, Wallace did relatively well, crossing 1000 yards for the first time since 2011, and Perriman showed enough for me to have hope moving forward, but outside of that I didn't see too many great things. Smith was injured and after coming back just showed his age for the first time with us, Aiken was just nowhere to be found all season, and it feels like Moore dropped more than he caught.

TE - C+ - Pitta had a great comeback season, he did more than I expected from him, even though his stats were padded from those terrible playcalls he was overall solid for a player that's missed two years with a hip injury that should have ended his career. Outside of Pitta the group was just held back by injuries and Boyle's suspension. Waller showed some ability out there, but I don't think we're particularly using him right yet.

OL - C - Yanda was the only consistently great piece of the line, even though he was injured and played out of position half the season he still played like the best OG in football. Stanley was up and down to start the season and then missed 4 games, though to end the season he's played amazingly, he's the real deal. Wagner, again, was a bit up and down, but overall he was very good, he also dealt with injuries throughout the season, he left during like 4 or 5 games and didn't play at all in the season finale. Lewis made huge strides over the year, before the ankle sprain when he was moved back into guard he was playing great, but unfortunately that was only one and half games, early in the season he struggled as a run blocker and at LT he wasn't anything special. Zuttah was so up and down, one moment he looked fine, other times he looked god awful out there, played through injury which is commendable but we still need an upgrade at center. Ducasse is a hell of a run blocker, but man he can't pass block to save his life and he committed so many penalties. The weakest of all  was obviously Hurst, he just needs to go, whether it's LT or RT he was terrible.

DEFENSE

DL - B - would have been a B+ or an A-, but those last few games were just pathetic. Don't blame them entirely, just look at those offensive grades, they got no help all year and run defending is dirty work, they simply got worn down as any unit will. I would go guy by guy, but it's all pretty much the same story, all great run defenders with minimal pass rush ability and all struggled to end the season.

OLB - C - Lowest defensive score by a mile. Suggs did as much as he could, but he can't do it alone, especially with one arm. McClellan sure can set the edge but as a pass rusher he might as well not even be on the field. Z. Smtih was a healthy scratch for a few games which is pretty much all I have to say there. Judon showed flashes but he wasn't ready for significant snaps. Doom just wasn't around enough to have much of an impact and his age shows much more than Suggs'. Correa didn't see much of the field.

ILB - A- - Mosley and Orr were great pretty much all season, solid in both run defense and coverage. Unfortunately I had to bring the grade down to just an A- because of those two games that Mosely missed and McClellan had to be moved inside where he's just a complete liability. Also overall depth was just a problem so that needs to be addressed over the offseason.

CB - B- - thought about giving this one a C+ but with Jimmy out there the secondary was fantastic, I believe we peaked at about 6th in the league if I remember correctly. Tavon was a pleasant surprise, I'll be honest and say I never though he would be able to play on the outside, glad I was wrong, he played well since taking over the starting job from Wright. Powers was super inconsistent, made some fine plays, but also gave up some inexcusable missed coverages. Wright was just plain bad, two TDs against the Jags and Raiders, to end the season he wasn't as bad, but still bad. Depth here is a huge concern, needs to be addressed badly.

S - B - Weddle was fantastic all season, should have made the pro bowl but it's garbage anyway, after the bye Webb was also fantastic, he and Weddle really formed some great chemistry in the back end. Elam, and depth in general, is why this grade isn't closer to an A. After Webb and Weddle we just had absolutely nothing at the position.

SPECIAL TEAMS

K - AAAAA+++++ - Tucker, thought about giving him an F for not going 100% and that shanked kickoff against the Bengals, but I'll let it slide just this one time.

P - B+ - Koch had an uncharacteristically up and down season, I can remember a few less than ideal punts. But overall he was solid considering how much we had to punt all season.

Coverage units - C+ - Dealt with stupid penalties all season and there was a stretch of a couple games where the punt coverage team was a liability, they were pretty much the reason we lost the Redskins game. I suppose teh constant penalties is preferable to giving up long returns.

Returners - B- - I don't think Hester was as much of a liability as some made him out to be, but he definitely wasn't helping. Letting him go was the right move and after him we got a bunch of meh, at least there weren't any fumbles.

What letter grade would you give our different position groups after the 2016 season? A good way to gauge needs of the team.

Offense

-Quarterback: B.   According to this year and recent history, Flacco has some games where he looks like an 'A' QB, and other games a 'C' QB. Wouldn't put him in the Brady, Brees, Rodgers category whatsoever, but I'd put him in the top 15. Keep in mind this was probably Flacco's worst season outside of his rookie year. Look at the teams that don't have a serviceable QB; it is proven you cannot win without a legit QB. However, if your team is good, a 'B' can get you by as long as you can run the ball, too! Ryan Mallet is a legit backup QB, but I expect him to be gone.

Running Back: A-. I really like the future RB situation with Dixon and West, with Dixon becoming our #1. With Dixon's combination of strength, agility, pass catching, etc. I think he will be a potential top 5 back in this league. Our OC needs to set our run game up for success though!

Wide Receiver: C-C+. In its current state our WR position leaks bleak. No more SSS... Mike Wallace is good, but kind of a one-trick pony. Perriman shows potential but still raw - not ready to be a true number one. Will he ever be? Doesn't separate from DB's well, but once he gets up to top speed he's deadly. Aiken is a good position WR, but I have a feeling he'll be gone. Campanero actually impresses me every time he plays! (Which is very rare). He's a true Welker/Edleman clone and I think could be a really good chain moving asset for Joe. In it's current state, giving the group a C is maybe being generous. However, we add Garcon or Stills and I'd give it a 'B'. Add Alshon Jeffery and I'll give it a solid 'B+.' Adding someone like Mike Williams in the draft would boost the grade big time too. Stills would give us some speedy WR's! (Wallace, Stills, Perriman, Camp).

Fullback: A. Kyle Juszczyk is the most dangerous FB offensively in the NFL; he's come a long way with his blocking too. Isn't afraid to square up on a MLB.

Offensive Tackle: A-. This grade applies IF we resign Wagner, which I believe is our number one priority. Brandon Williams probably will play for another team next year and get $$$$. Ronnie Stanley was a really solid LT for a rookie! He will only get better. Say it with me: "we have a franchise left tackle." Felt good, didn't it? Ricky Wagner always grades amazingly according to PFF; he's solid in the run game and passing game. I love Alex Lewis as a backup tackle who can also come in on jumbo packages. Get rid of James Hurst.

Guard: B+. This one was tricky... We have Marshall Yanda - the best guard in the NFL. Him playing on the left side this year helped Stanley develop, but it will be nice to have him back at his natural position next year. As far as left guard goes, we got some options...Ducasse was decent. Alex Lewis played well there and can be the starter next year. I love Ryan Jensen at guard, while I hate him at center. Urschel isn't a slouch either. We may even draft a new guard...but the moral of the story is, we got options.

Center: D: Let's face it. Jeremy Zuttah was our worst starting player this year, expect maybe when we had to Shareece Wright at CB. Eh, its a tossup. John Urschel is a decent backup, but still he's unproven. Look at the teams over the last 5 years that drafted a center high in the draft; those picks pay big dividends! The center anchors the line, needs to be athletic, and helps call protections. Look at our centers compared, to say, Travis Frederick from Dallas. We have nothing close to that. Luckily, this year's draft has great center talent! I love to upgrade that position in rounds 3-4.

Defense

Defensive Line: A-. You could make the argument that for 3-4 DL, we got the best in the NFL.  Timmy Jernigan is very solid. Wish he would amass more sacks, but he's still disruptive and good against the run. On the other side, Guy is very serviceable, and Urban, Bronson Kaufusi healthy, and a healthy Willie Henry looks good on paper. I wouldn't be mad if we drafted another guy. As the NT position goes, we got the best in the NFL! Brandon Williams is a beast. However, like I mentioned before I think he'll be gone. Luckily Michael Pierce is almost Williams' clone. I expect him to make a bigger stride next year...lets see how he would hold up as a starter. Maybe have him play early downs and Carl Davis on passing downs?

Outside Linebacker: B. On paper, Suggs, Dumervil, Z. Smith, Correa, and Judon looks pretty solid. However, the reality is that Suggs and Dumervil don't have a whole lot more to offer. Suggs was very impactful at times this season, and Dumervil was coming off a torn Achilles. Z. Smith and Correa contributed next to nothing, and Judon shows really good potential. I have a feeling Dumervil is gone next year. I would like to see Z. Smith play some DE. But I am almost certain we'll draft an OLB/pass rusher in the first two rounds. So this position group has a lot of questions.

Inside Linebacker: A. I think Mosley and Orr are the best one-two punch at ILB in the whole league, outside of Carolina. Mosley made the Pro Bowl again, but I think Orr outplayed him all year! Great to see. I think we need to move McClain back to backup ILB and Correa is better at ILB than OLB at this point.

Cornerback: B. Jimmy Smith and Tavon Young? Yes please. The rest of our CB's...TRASH. Powers, Wright, Arrington, they all were bad. If we had Smith, Young in the slot, and a good rookie like say Sidney Jones, with some solid veteran depth I'd like it. We MUST bring in some more CB's, whether it be through the draft or free agency. We see how good we can be when Jimmy plays, and how screwed we are without him. I think he's our best player. Ozzie and Eric, please solidify this position.

Saftey: A-. Weddle and Webb I thought played really well this year! Especially compared to previous years. We were a top 5 defense this year I think as a result. Give them another year together and I think they'll be even better...especially Webb. Have Anthony Levine as depth is good. I think we'll actually retain Elam but on a one year deal. But please, don't ever have him as the deep safety! Playing around the line and covering TE's is more his suite.

Special Teams: A-. We get an 'A-' because we have the best kicker in the world, Pro Bowl long snapper in Morgan Cox, and a Pro Bowl punter in Koch (although he had a down year). Those three have amazing chemistry. Our coverage teams are good. Where we suck is at returner! I like Chris Moore as returner better than Hester. I like Campanero as a punt returner because he can catch the ball.

Seems like most graded the RB's pretty highly...

Harbs thinks we need to add another back. An upgrade at that.

Obviously my opinion will prob change on this a million times between now and the draft, but if Fournette, Cook or McCaffery is sitting there at 16... I'd be hard pressed to pass them up (in that order).
