[News] Late For Work 12/30: Elvis Dumervil Finally Reveals His Mysterious Injury; Ravens-Bengals Picks

45 posts in this topic

I don't care it's high or low draft pick, but sweeping the Bengals is good in my book.....perfect ending season game to start with great optimistic approach for next year....

Finally a good mindset. As a coach you are always looking to ways to motivate you team. Sweeping a divisional opponent that has given you trouble in recent years is definitely worth getting up for. It also provides you recent footage of what can work against them heading into the next season. Success breads success, so one should always be looking to win, regardless of situation.

Harbaugh so arrogant, just rest Flacco and the other starters. Who cares you finish 9-7 or 8-8, by loosing we get a better player.

You are the arrogant one. No team should want to lose and their fans shouldn't either.

Play to win but let the young guys play they need the game experience

The mysterious “foot area” injury that outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil has been working through all season has finally been revealed.

And, it’s quite significant.

Dumervil, who turns 33 next month, had surgery to repair a torn Achilles, according to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. The motivation behind the secrecy was that Dumervil didn’t want to become a distraction to the team.

I knew there was something else going on with this cat.  And the secrecy nearly all season long?  Man what a joke!

This line of thinking is quite surprising. Dumerville showed heart. In 2015 he played ferociously with 60% torn Achilles. He played with heart. He played every down because Suggs was injured. He never complained, he never made any excuses. He had surgery in the offseason and only kept it a secret because he didn't want to use it as a cop out. He gave it his best shot and never sort sympathy.
Imagine the scenario; playing with 60% of Achilles torn, having surgery in the offseason and tried to make a come back in week 4. Every other takes a year to comeback from such injury and you guys can't appreciate him.

If I were Ozzie I'm signing him to contract however at a reduced price. Dumerville has heart and still has a lot left in the tank.

John seems to make injury status a very high priority and injuries a mystery. News Flash, Nobody is afraid of this Ravens team anymore and the Offense & Defense is predictable. Ravens lost by 8 points to a 4-11 Team. So who are you protecting the Fantasy Sports, Bookies? This is just strange because Brian B never did that.

Perhaps true; however, Dumervil's injury was kept secret by Dumervil, not Harbaugh.

So what Elvis say to John. " Coach, I have an issue and will be back in week 12" Seriously, I think the Ravens PR people are up to this, but why.? My NFC team I get flooded with football News & Information but the Ravens act like fans are fourth string for lack of better terms.

Crusader what happened is very simple. Dumerville had to have told the organization. He couldn't keep his injury secret to the employer. However he has the right to ask the team to not make it public.
Once again my hats off to Dumerville for competing hard and not make any excuses.

I'm not buying Dumervil's story about him losing a step because of this injury. He says he's healthy now but I'm not seeing anything that shows he's worth the money to bring him back next year. I usually don't talk negatively about our players but I think it's bs to bring this out now to garner some sort of sympathy for gutting it out. It seems more to me as a ploy to make people think he'll be that much better next year when he's supposedly 100%. Hopefully he shows up this week and at least gives the Ravens a reason to consider keeping him next year but at this point I say we move on. While I'm on my soapbox did anyone notice how poorly Sizz played against the Stoolers? He too often got caught cheating inside when he should've set the edge. I think it was more a factor of him trying to do too much than his ability suddenly declining. He's also been injured but makes no excuses. I'd much rather have Sizzle than Doom because I think Oz is going to have to move on from one of them.

Your logic doesn't hold water. Dumerville revealed his injury because the season is over. This Bengals game is meaningless. In fact he is doing the opposite of excuses. If he wanted to make excuses he would have held a press conference in the beginning of the year to let everyone know that he just had Achilles surgery.

I want to see Judon, smith, and Correria because Suggs/dume won't be around for more then another year. Suggs/dume have showed heart but football as we know as fans takes a lot out of players. As a fan it's time to give the young fellas a extended look to see what they can do.

I don't buy into that argument. Ok, you cut Doom and then what? You can't get a decent pass rusher for that amount of $$. Yes, you have Judon that can replace him but what happens when Judon gets hurt? And suppose a 34 year old Suggs is banged up at the same time? Now, you have zero pass rush and our secondary gets lit up again. You just threw away an entire season to save $6 million. Sound like a good trade off?

Now, if come August and Doom is getting beat in practice by several other guys, then yes, you cut him. Cap is going up again next year and our only real FA are BWill & Wagner. If Bwill wants $100 million+, your going to let him walk anyway.

For those of you that always gripe about Flacco's contract, the Bills are probably going to have to pay Tyrod Taylor $30 million to ride the bench next year. And the Cowboys are going to have to pay Romo $25 million to ride the bench. The Texans will pay Brock $19 million to ride the bench.

First off, someone correct me if I'm wrong. But I feel like there's SO much misconception just saying cutting him clears 6 mill of cap space.... He's Owed 8.375. If we cut him, that gives us 6 mill in cap space- therefore that leaves 2.375 of dead money that we don't get to put towards anybody, Meaning, We Really only save 3.625 million overall! I will take Doom for 3.625 mill instead of someone else. Big time.

No, realistically that's not correct Bud. That 2.375 is a paper charge for money already paid to him in the form of signing bonus before he even stepped on the field here. That paper charge hits the books this season whether he plays or not. His salary is 6m in true money for next season. Should he not play we will save a full 6m.

For six million in cap space you def cut Doom. Did not have a good year, I don't care about injuries, a bad year is a bad year. We need three down players for that price, not a rush specialist. We need our rookie guys to step up. O Line and running back seem to be huge needs.
