[News] Late For Work 12/29: Ron Rivera Thinks Steve Smith Should Retire A Panther

I told you all that we wouldn't make the playoffs earlier this year because we didn't have enough talent due to years of terrible drafting. I also said that we might even be two years away from making the playoffs which might be true again because our team will most likely not make the playoffs next year. esp if Steve Smith retires- sounds like there's a chance though he might be back since he didn't say 100 percent. If he does leave, we will be in really bad shape with Wallace being the only professional grade level receiver we have- we will then have to look to free agency, but I think everyone knows Oz's philosophy in never paying a receiver too much money - he's never had a high paid receiver on the roster and let Boldin and Torrey go bc he thought they were getting expensive- smh. As far as this seasons goes, I don't think we improved much- yes, we won some more games, but I think everyone has to remember we also had the easiest schedule bc of all the losses last year- so does winning against so many losing teams make us better? I don't think so. I don't think any of the coaches need to be fired, but they definitely need better players to work with and that problem falls straight on the shoulders of Oz and DaCosta

Don't understand why everybody is so down on Aiken. No, he isn't SSS, but he catches every ball thrown to him and was our leading receiver last year. Brady would make him a star.

When baseball players go into the HOF they are attached to a team - i.e. Babe Ruth, New York Yankees. Cal Ripken, Baltimore Oriole. Their plaque shows them in their uniform with hat and lists their teams on the plaque. The Football HOF does not, it's just the bust of the players head.

correct.

I hope the difficulty in deciding which team to retire from by SSS will cause him so much angst that he plays another year. I sure enjoy his performance and his antics on the field. I can't think of a tougher player on any team who has more to prove on each play. Spinning the football after a catch is his hallmark. Spatting with opposing defensive players is more the norm after a play than the exception. What a spirit. If this guy was in construction he'd build skyscrapers single-handedly.
