Steve Smith Sr. Appreciation Thread

71 posts in this topic

With Steve Smith heading out the door, I just wanted to take the time to express my appreciation for what he brought to this team in his tenure here.  It may have only been 3 years, but it felt like he was always a Raven.  It's been amazing to watch him play, and I'm glad he came back for one more year to go out on his own terms.  It's a shame we couldn't get him that ring that he wanted.  I hope to see him ball out on his last game this Sunday.

Thank you, Steve Smith Sr.

Man. I'm gonna miss seeing him out there acting as if a defender done lost his mind for tackling him lol. So much toughness and grit. The ultimate raven. I'm so upset that His final 2 seasons ended like this. Thank you steve!

Love everything about Steve Smith, the energy he gives to the game, the way he embraced the Baltimore community, his love of family and his competitive spirit.  I wish him only the best and would love to see him retire a Raven (but I wouldn't fault him if he chose to retire a Panther).

Played for Carolina for 12 years, but at heart was always a Raven. Thanks for bringing your fire and intensity every game Steve Smith Sr.

Extraordinary man in every aspect. Wish we could have seen him off in better mood and a shot in post season.

Three years only but I'm sure I'm not the only one to consider him one of the all time favourite Ravens.

Steve Smith Sr. - A player that has always shown that his play and passion define him, along with a few choice words for anyone trying to cover or tackle him.

A true Raven who was never the tallest on the field but man, did he cast a giant shadow,

Best Wishes Steve and Thank You #89!

Say it ain't so man. I truly look up to this man and he inspires me everyday.

Respect your decision either way- but I hope that 11% starts talking to you this off season. Your boys need you out there- and I'd love nothing more than for you to hit 15k yards and shove it up Rodney Harrison's tail.

Onnnnne morrrre yeeeear.:P

I don't get why he wants to retire. He still has some left in the tank why not use the rest of it?

Thank you though SSS I can't wait for your Hall of Fame speech.

Man, I am a Freakin' grown adult and I am ready to cry.   and I am not even kidding a little bit.

LOVED having this guy on my team.  He is and always will be one of the greatest Ravens EVER.

His first T.D. as a Raven, he reached BEHIND him, and threw down a defender?

Who does that?  Steve Smith Sr.  I am REALLY going to miss seeing this guy on my team.

I'm from Europe, I started to follow the NFL in 2014, same year Steve came to the Baltimore Ravens.

By far my favourite player, almost cry today.

It hurts me that I didn't start to follow NFL years before and can see him play although he played for other team, but here in Europe american football is not very popular, (I discovered it because of Michael Phelps, he posted things in his social media, i was swimmer and i follow him, so thankful to him I'm a baltimore fan).

LOVE YOU STEVE

If you don't get why he's retiring I bet your mind was blown when Megatron retired.

When I was a bit younger I looked up to him, we are the same height but he MADE it a point to make his presence felt on the field. To be able to be considered a #1 receiver at that height is something that speaks for itself.

My all time favorite WR and my all time favorite RB of all time both played their last games with us. (Ricky Williams)

I had hoped 2 years a go when we made the run against the Pats that we would go deep and give Smith a shot at winning.

Should have always been here. Thanks Steve! You were a hell of a player, we will miss you.

he was a team cancer in Carolina many a times. He undermined Cam Newton and therefore was let go, lol.

Luckily we got the older Steve Smith and Flacco kept him happy with targets. Yeah, I generally like him as a Raven and respected him as a Panther....but dude was a team cancer one too many times. Way to over emotional with his teammates and damn near broke one of his teammates nose cause he couldn't handle being trashed talk.

it's like people don't know his history...this is funny to me! We got lucky on the Ravens but dude is a hot head and has been a bad teammate one too many years. Older age gave us a decent Steve Smith...Carolina Steve we definitely did not need on our team!!!!

Thank you SSS! it's such an HONOR to have you play as a Ravens, and not only you are at top notch on the field, you are also great at community service.  What a great accomplishment as a man and a football player; good father and husband and a great football player.  What else can you ask for as a man?

What capture me the most was your speech for Torrey Smith: "Catch the ball like someone steals your lunch money!"

PS: I've never seen anyone with 5'9 playing like 6'6 with a lion heart and volcanic energy......

Again, Thank you!

When you are on a losing team for years, some point you want to rise and tell those guys that we need to win.  If no one can get it done, Steve Smith Sr will single-handedly get it done....

Steve Smith = LEGEND... ANIMAL... INSPIRATION

You are an inspiration to all those athletes in ALL of sports at EVERY level that have been told that they are "too short to play" "too small to play" "too old to play"

ONE... MORE... YEAR!

Carolina made a choice between an "aging WR" or "young franchise QB". The choice is obvious in this light, but I wouldn't exactly be super thrilled with Cam Newton; he is a turn off in so many ways if you have followed his career. As good a player as Cam is, his ego far exceeds his ability and that is saying it all there.

The bottom line is that you put 2 alpha males in the same room, you are going to get confrontation.

This is about Steve Smith. God bless that man for a great career and being an inspiration too many!

Dear Steve Smith,

I appreciate everything you've done to contribute to our team. You will be missed and remembered. Sorry that you couldn't get a ring but if that 11% chance wins, How about one more year?

Megatron lost his passion for the game. I feel like Steve is choosing to retire just because everyone expects him to at his age but he still has some left in the tank. Maybe he doesn't believe he has another year left in him but to be honest he still sounds undecided.

He wants to be home with his family, and his family wants him there.  That was his basis last year, but his family convinced him to do 1 more to go out on his own terms.

Mega came into the league to such a bad team.....he was part of that team that almost lost all their games that year....that takes a toll on you when you include all the hits he took from the ball being forced his way every other play

Like so many others, SSS is one of my favorite Ravens of all time. His passion for the game was evident in every moment on the field. Will miss him so much.

Megatron decided he didn't want to be crippled for the rest of his life. Steve has already said that he wants to be with his family and that's the main reason he's retiring.

I think SSS was also worried about being crippled. He played through quite a few injuries for the Ravens, and he knows those can take their toll as he gets older.
