[News] What Are The Ravens Playing For In Cincinnati?

79 posts in this topic

I want to put this out there for all the Harbs and “In OZ We Trust” blind loyalist.

1. Pass rusher was, according to Steve, the biggest need.
a. However, they pass on Noah Spence, home grown kid Yannick Ngakoue, and don’t make a move for Irvin.
b. Meanwhile Correa is drafted in the 2nd round, but can’t get on the field.
c. He relys on guys north of 33 years old to run down QBs in the 4th quarter. Not smart.
2. The secondary has needed improvement for the last 4 years. What have they done?
a. Cut Pollard who was an intimidator and knock out artist. Not every safety is the next Reed. You still need guys that can force fumbles and tackle.
b. Offer Wright to a contract. Are you kidding me? The guy is a bum.
c. Release Stewart, who is ballin for the Broncos.
d. Cut Brooks who was their most physical safety. These pass weeks you can see Weddle is too small to get down guys. How can’t he knock down boney Antonio Brown?
e. Waiting until the 4th round to draft a CB
f. How is Elam on the team? Too arrogant to concede that his 1st round pick is terrible
3. Poor use of Cap and Talent
a. Pass few seasons drafted Gilmore, Williams, Boyle. Already have Pitta, converted Waller and Brown to TE. Yet spend money on 35 year Ben Watson. Not a long-term plan. Sometimes I wonder if He and Harbs are on the same page.
b. The Devin Hester experiment was a disaster
c. Draft Perriman in the 1st round because he has speed. How many deep balls was he thrown? Slants, Screens, end arounds. If Campanero can get 39 yards, maybe Perriman with 4.3 speed get a TD. How many times he is on the field? I get that he is not consistent, but he will never be without opportunities. Can’t have a 1st rounder not part of the weekly game plan.
d. I know Marty is the OC, but Harbs is the HEAD coach. Shouldn’t he walk over to Marty and say “Run the Ball!”
e. I can go on all day about drafting receivers that can’t catch.
4. Identity Crisis, devaluing players
a. I have never seen a GM that wins a super bowl then immediately blows up a team the way OZ does. Cut Dilfer for Gerbac. Didn’t learn from that and then cut Boldin, who is really a big part of Flacco playoff success. SMH
b. Ravens use to be a power running team. Harbs hires his buddy Castillo, and the Offense line and run game have been terrible since. Flacco is an average QB (9 years of stats proves it), yet they lean on him instead of what has been successful for Ravens championship teams, the run game and paly action.

To show how bad ozzie is at drafting players. Maybe we'll let our former first round pick Matt elam get some more PT so he can get scored on and lose us games again

Agree with a lot but don't think you can say Oz blew up the SB team. As i recall a lot of people retired, or left for big money.

Absolutely nothing!

It would be a disaster to go out there for pride and have Stanley, Flacco, Mosley, Wallace, Pitta, Dixon tear up a knee or worst. Use this as an opportunity to evaluate players on the bubble, future contract, and coaching schemes going forward. You can say what you want about skill level, but they played with heart and have nothing to prove.

Yes, injuries are part of the game. But for the sake of 9 wins, who are you willing to sacrifice in a meaningless game. treat it like a 5th preseason game.

If, winning is so important as Harbie says, then how come they did not try to win yesterday. That defense stunk up the joint in the 4th quarter. And too many times down the red zone and fg instead of td. I'm still not over that pass play last week where the 'coaches' almost gave up the win in some twisted show of ego. Goofy people running a goofy team.

With all that being said I think Harbs gets one more year. Correa, Elam, Arthur Brown, Perriman, and other questionable early picks have kept us from an infusion of young impact players. To your point, the signing of veterans such as Watson, Hester etc, combined with horrible decisions such as Boldin has molded the Ravens into the mediocre team they've become.

They can win all they want, however, once eliminated from any playoff contention= major underachievement from many angles.
To me, the first Ravens first drive summed up a lot of the season. After having GREAT field position, starting on our 40 yard line (the first of 2 wasted opportunities) we began with a quick pass to Wallace (slant) and a first down. After that: 1st and 10, we pass for 2 yards; 2nd and 8, we then decide to run for no gain; now its 3rd and 8, here AS WE HAVE DONE SO MUCH OF THIS ALL YEAR FROM AN 'ELITE QB', Joe throws the ball for a 2 yard gain where the receiver was heavily covered and had NO shot in he-- to come even close for a first down. I was livid, saying, "this is all you got. Really". It was a wasted opportunity. And so it goes........Joe has his weapons, what excuse next?
I love our running back tandem, but to have any resemblance of this orchestrated, so-called offense for next year- I'm not wasting my time.
CQ1 has retired. This fan is tired- and tired of the same old same old.

I bet we play the best we've played all season in this final game. Just because our players will finally play the game just to have fun playing the game of football.

I bet the coordinators will make all the right calls they should have made the entire season.

Just because this final game will allow our coaches and players to relax and just play the game of football to their full talented extent.

Harbs says they are close to being really good. They are also close to being really bad. Just as close to 5-11 as 11-5. Let's not forget how undisciplined this team is at 8-7. Penalties has been such a big part as to why they are. Again yesterday with Zuttah in a big spot. The coaches don't seem to have done anything to correct it. This team doesn't have the leaders and talents like Lewis, Reed and Bouldin to overcome and correct these issues on the field. It has to come from the coaches to instill it into them. I'm just not sure if this is a strong point for Harbs. If not it better become one.

Is Flacco willing to sacrifice a chunk his family time and put the work in? Is he willing to get out there during the off season and work hard and go in at 6am during the season for film study? I am fine with his on field demeanor but not ok with his performance. The most concerning instance was at Eagle pressor when he said he didn't see the defender on that late int. IT WAS THE MIDDLE LINEBACKER!. He was lined up directly across from Flacco when the play started and moved 3 feet to the left. And Flacco didn't see him? That's scary. I swear he and Eli Manning are one in the same.

I'll tell you all what I told my 10yo.

As disappointing as Christmas was for our Ravens, I'm glad it wasn't the empty feeling a loss in the postseason leaves us. They still play one more week.

Next season starts Sunday. Plain and simple.

Cincinnati has had our number in recent years--we know this. If they can own Pittsburgh for four straight, including postseason, they can own Cincy (who wins nothing when it matters).

Of all the postseason things I want for this team, it's a division championship *and* a first round bye. Make the opposition come to Baltimore and deal with us, the fans. No more road playoff games. Make them come to Baltimore.

Next season begins Sunday. Time to go to work.

Relax guys, Our team fought! I agree that they (Players and coaches), Need to do a better job, But im sure they are trying. The ravens are always the underdog that nobody wants to play against in the playoffs. I know we want the superbowl, But we have a great team. No one's perfect.

I'm as disappointed as anyone but it's hard to blame Harbs for poor draft picks, unwise signings, inflated contracts and poor QB play. He does what he can with the team he is provided with.

You play to win each game, regardless. Didn't pan out the way we, or they, wanted, but I have no problem with Harbs' statements. They should give it all they have. They are paid to do so, and they are competitors. I guess we'll see Sunday, but I most certainly want us to beat the bung holes.

That's just your opinion brother. If im the Owner of the ravens and Ozzie wants to sign Herster who is maybe the greatest returner of all time, and had a good season with atlanta, well.... , Same goes with Weddle, whom i believe is one of the greatest Safeties of all time... Then if you're counting on 33 yo guys like Suggs, Dum, Is for a reason brother, What can you about Steve Smith? To be honest if it wasnt for the "Old" guys, We wouldnt be a contender, because as you said it, every rookie we draft is a bum....Understand that Not every kid is gifted mentally to play the game like those monsters do. Im not gonna lie i really dont agree in nearly every single one of your arguments, But i respect them, Just a little advise just because you think you know about sports, it really doesnt mean that, Leave you with this. If you dont know the idea of the creator of something just because the design of what he created doesnt seem right to you, well... How would you know that if in 3rd down at the 1 yrd line the ravens call a QB sneak it would work? Maybe they stop Flacco, Maybe Flacco fumbles the ball, bad snap or whatever, Then You wouldnt understand why they went for a QB sneak when they clearly coulda have run the ball with west, but if west didnt score, well they shoulda have Juice run the ball, There are always endless possibilities my brother. The ravens as a Team Tried to win, They couldnt as simple as that.

You always go to win unfortunately they sure dropped a few this season and it just seemed like they were lacking discipline at times with a whole bunch of stupid penalties. Sometimes it seemed like they forgot that running the ball is important. The team just seemed like it did not want it and lacked urgency.

Where is Pollard playing at? Where did he play last year? He didn't because he sucks.

Stewart wasn't cut - he signed with his hometown team much like Lebron did with Cleveland (He wasn't going to sign with anyone but the Broncos)

How did Terrence Brooks do against the Ravens for Philly? - oh wait, he was riding the bench the entire game.

They didn't cut Boldin, they traded him because he was one of the highest paid WR at the time and wouldn't take a pay-cut. That saved money was spent on signing Dumervil.

Noah Spence had substance abuse issues, I guess you haven't been around long enough to hear about the former Ravens "off-field" issues. No way was he getting drafted by this team at that time. He's got 1 more sack than Matt Judon - that's a high 2nd Round vs 5th Round, you think that's better?

Juan Castillo is considered one of the best O-line coaches in the NFL. Not by a bunch of clowns on the internet, but by Owners, Coaches, GMs, Owners, etc - people that actually know what they're doing and don't just make up facts on a message board. That's why he runs all the O-line drills at the NFL combine (the place where all teams send their scouts and coaches to evaluate the talent. Kinda makes sense to have one of the best guys running players through the drills, doesn't it?)

Try to not make stuff up when you post, it doesn't lend credence to your argument.

I know the truth hurts. Tell me how many sacks Correa has? Spence or Ngakoue would be more useful to go along with a Suggs or Doom. The fact your 5th rounder is more productive proves the 2nd round was a miss.

Why ask Boldin to take a pay cut in the first place? Then pays Smith and Webb top money to get burned and be injured on the sideline. Pay Wright who is a liability

You are actually defending Castillo. What O-line have you been watching for the last few years. Most penalized, near the bottom of league in rushing. Castillo is best o-line coach like Billick was an offensive guru. It is not about reps but results.

Chicken Little Baltimore fans. Still rearin' their loser heads: "Fire Harbs. Joe blows. Can't watch this team anymore. Yadda yadda yadda."

Sack up, son. You look pathetic.

If I were a player or coach, I'd play to win the game. As a selfish fan , I say drop the game, as a loss gives us a higher pick in each Draft round and a better waiver claim.

What are we playing for? Good question. Unless you are playing for a shot at the post-season, one should strategically opt for a higher draft pick since the difference between the top and bottom half of the first round can be significant. In fact, given Ozzie's recent track record, a bottom half first rounder is a throw away. Unfortunately, we played our way square into mediocrity. No chance at a true playmaker. Best case, we nab a top interior O-Lineman. That shouldn't be too hard to mess up.
