The Return of the Jedi 2017: Brian Billick with Joe Flacco.

58 posts in this topic

Regular season: 80–64 (.556)
Postseason: 5–3 (.625)

2004, 2005, 2007 missed playoffs (3 out of 4 years)

1 super bowl and 1 AFC champsionship, 2x AFC North Champion

If the man had a healthy McNair in 2007....The stats would be essentially even across the board compared to 2008-2016.

I believe he has learned from the Boller Mistake and that Flacco is the guy for 7 more years give him freedom. He will not let us down this time! let's give the man a second chance. That 1998 vikings scoring record stood for over 10-years. WHY NOT!??!!?

He knew how to hire good DCs also.

Think about all the players Ozzie drafts on defense. They just don't fit Harbs and Pees's style imo. Bring back Rex or even Marvin.

I expect Marvin and or Rex to be let go at the end of the season. If Billick can come back....we can probably get one of those two guys backs as DC.

No to either, they would both leave when another HC opportunity presents itself. Bring in offensive and defensive minds who understand what is happening and can make adjustments.

If Billick wanted to be a H.C. he would be already.

as much as I've said he's waiting on the right opportunity like Cowher.....Billick barely gets calls as the Kyle Boller mess with a prime Raven's defense hangs over his head. he should have had at least two rings by 2007.

I just happen to feel he learned from the past and also he would have Flacco so he can focus on other aspects of the team.

Billick completely lost control of the locker room and that's why he was fired, not because he didn't make the playoffs.

Yeah. The players lost faith in him, and seemed like they wouldn't even fight to save his job. When that happens, the coach is done. I liked Billick, and he did a lot to turn a franchise (counting the late, original Browns) that was a joke into a contender, but it was time to move on.

How many times do we miss the playoffs before they turn on Harbaugh? if our coaching wasn't so inept a few of those 5 close losses would have swung our way.

If the team misses the playoffs next year, then the trouble begins, in my opinion.

The 10 year old kid in me who misses that era would absolutely love this, but I don't think Bisciotti would ever make that call. If we do move on from Harbs, it needs to be a fresh face.

That was Boller based and he regained the locker room when McNair came to the team (Air was hurt 2007 playoffs into 2007 regular season...not Billick's fault)....there is no Boller on this roster. Flacco is the guy, period.

Im more interested in getting Marvin or Rex at coordinator.

That's very possible.....but would ego get in the way with Rex? And maybe Lewis would retire.

Billick seems like a closer possibility if him and the owner's egos/pride do not affect things. Letting go of Dilfer and the Boller mess...I believe he learned from it. Billick created the game manager trend that was followed by Tom Brady (early career) and Brad Johnson.

That would be like cheating on your spouse to sleep with your ex. It's great for the moment and brings back old memories but what does it accomplish for the future. :P

Although I liked Billick, Rex and Marvin, you don't normally move forward by taking multiple steps back. Let history stand as it is and look forward to building a new history with someone else.

Scott Mitchell, trent dilfer, Chris Redman, Tony banks, kyle boller, Anthony Wright, Steve McNair on his last legs.....none of these guys have the natural arm talent of a Flacco....and if billick could succeed with those guys I think it would be a no brainer he could succeed with this group of players. He definitely had a knack for hiring solid assistants....only problem I'd be worried about is are his best days behind him and what's new that he's learned being out of the game for a while....but these are the type of considerations we need in order to regain our identity

1/2 the pieces are in place....

Rex may sit out a season and so may Marvin if he's fired this year as well. If Harbaugh misses the playoffs next year he's more than likely gone and Billick can make his grand return. Now if Harbaugh is gone at the end of the year...I think Rex or Marvin will be back as defensive coordinator.

Doesn't matter how you spin it; John will be with us throughout 2017 for sure, but even he comes up short in 2017, may be he's on the hot seat.  If Marvin can secure his 13 year tenure with the Bengals with 0 playoff win, Harbs will certainly stay much longer than 13yr.........

So I don't think HC changes won't come anytime soon....

Guess Harbaugh is due for 13-3 next season in that case.

However, 2004 and 2005 Ray Lewis was a victim of the Madden Curse (2004 the real year he had no interceptions and then the actual year of 2005 he missed half the season!)  so you can't count that against Billick! :

While Lewis’ season following his debut as the Madden NFL 2005 cover athlete wasn’t exactly terrible, the usually reliable linebacker failed to record a single interception in the 2004 season – the first time that had ever happened in his long

career. The Ravens also failed to make the playoffs for the first time in several years, and in Week 6 of the following season, Lewis tore his right hamstring, forcing him to end his season abruptly.

Hey if we don't want to give the current staff a pass with injuries then we can't be giving Billick excuses. Plenty of injuries the past couple years, it is part of the game

I think when/ if Marvin Lewis gets fired we should atleast kick the tires on him to see if he's interested in the DC position. But we might already have the answer in- house in Leslie Frazier?

No kidding.. If only we could lure him here. He's not a distracting personality like Rex either. But neither is Frazier- who's already in-house and would make for an easy transition. If they even decide to move on from Dean.

Except when that old look you loved wants to make a comeback!

Or teams around the league don't think he's particularly good with offense and was a product of having unbelievable talent on his Vikings teams.

Though the defenses he had in Cincinnati weren't overly impressive...
