Since 2000 only 5 different AFC Teams have made it to the Superbowl....

24 posts in this topic

Colts, Pats, Ravens, Steelers, and Broncos. Only 5 teams in 16 years!

Let's get a grip and realize that since 2000...in the AFC only the pats have more Superbowl trophies than the Ravens. Yes, I feel 2006 and 2014 were ours for the taking as well....but a broken-down Air McNair (RIP) and a cheating (not giving us time to sub, barely declaring eligible receivers and deflated balls) pats team cut those seasons short.

Just saying that we have been a fortunate organization during the Billick and Harbaugh eras considering we had to withstand two of the best ever in Brady and Manning both being in the AFC. And also having to deal with another Hall of Famer in Big Ben. The fact that the Ravens have had success at the highest level is amazing considering the last 16 years have been unprecedented in NFL HISTORY in terms of the AFC having 3 of the best QB's in NFL history playing at the same time!

Let's remember to give the Ravens Organization their just due! we weathered a severe storm....

Yes, Super Bowls do not grow on trees.  One of my favorite sayings.  The Ravens have the leadership from the top to be perennial contenders, albeit mostly fringe contenders.  Honestly, we have been spoiled by our prior success, and jaded by aspiring to be the dominating Patriots with their HOF coach and QB.

At the end of the day, we are considered a winning organization.  But you can't blame the fans for wanting more.....like a dynasty.

Parity in the AFC is nowhere to be seen lol. Hopefully the Chiefs become the 6th team this year.

You could argue only 4 teams since Peyton Manning was the common thread of the colts and broncos. Then again you can argue 3 players, and one team (the Ravens). And the chances are high Brady or Big Ben make it out of the AFC this year.

Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Big Ben, and The Ravens with two different QB's.

Early 90's I was a cowboys fan as b-more had no team in my early lifetime.... and was just starting grade school. I was blind to Troy Aikaman and didn't really watch other teams outside of the NFC until 95 with the CFL Colts/Stallions and then the Ravens to learn about the AFC.

AFC was just the Washington Generals to me....1981-1997 it was NFC winning the superbowl. Aikman, Steve Young, and Favre were the big 3 of QB's to me in the early 90's. And I respected Jake the Snake Plummer too.

Oops i forgot the Raiders had sneaked in there after they got rid of John Gruden. Make it 2 teams (Ravens and Raiders) and 3 quarterbacks (big ben, brady, manning) since 2000.

It's funny that the raiders (before Carr went down), steelers, and patriots would probably come out of the AFC again for no change since 2000! hahaha!

No truer words spoken there Pu. It amazes me at times with some of the things said by some fans of this team considering the success this team has enjoyed and the respect it has earned.

Well...and being in the same division as the steelers. They loom over us and it's hard to carve out space/separation.

2006 was so tough for me. I really think that was one of the best defenses of all time. I'd add 2011 to that too, we would've steamrolled the Giants if it weren't for Evans/Cundiff. If we had Jimmy in 2014 I think we would've won the SB then too. Oh well, at least we have 2012

After 2006 I had NOTHING to do with football except my Admin duties on another site after the loss to Indy.  After that season I swore to not let football take over my life like it had, I fed into the whole media Ravens/Indy playoff game with McNair and it was just not healthy and the team lost to then SB Champion.  I did my admin/publishing duties on another site, no NFLN no ESPN the only thing that brought me back was being tapped to be a moderator on this site.

For me the loss to the Steelers 2009/2010AFCCG annoyed me and made me a true Steeler hater because of the way the fans/stadium personnel played "Renegade" as McGahee laid immobile on the field  and boarded but again the team lost to the eventual SB champs.

I will never forget the 2010/2011 playoffs going in as a 12/4 wildcard, knocked off KC then there was the Steeler game on Jan. 15 --it sorta went down like yesterday ahead 21-7 at the half scoring off 2 turnovers Mendenhall turned it over then that bizarre Suggs hitting Bens arm as it was going forward ball on the turf and Corey Redding heads up picked up the ball and walked into the end zone. Ravens had a nightmare third quarter a TD called back from a pick six, penalties and dropped passes. I will never forget this game because it my moms funeral/memorial service we had the wake until 1530 then the crock pots came out and Ravens jerseys replaced formal clothes and we suffered through the game.  I became an avid Packers fan for the SB, thankfully the Steelers lost.

2011/2012 going in as a number two seed lost again to the AFC Champ the Pats and they lost to the Giants.

2012/2013  some AFC team name the Ravens won it ALL!

2013/2014  Ravens DNC

2014/2015  Ravens went in as a 6 and lost to the Deflategate Pats in the Divisional round and the NEP beat Indy in the deflate gate game and went to beat Seattle.  It should also be noted it was the first time the Ravens beat the Steelers in the playoffs.a

Now the dark ages begin no playoffs for two years, we could be Bills fans 17 yrs, Browns 14 yrs Rams 12 yrs yes it sucks, really sucks to miss the playoffs it could be a lot worse.

Exactly not a lot of teams can go to Pittsburgh and play a playoff game like that. We lost some bad games, some unlucky games but we have a good team and they are fighting until the end.

We will be better next year.

Sorry about your loss.

I was in another state in 2006 and we knocked the Steelers out of the 4pm national spot the last 5 weeks. I got to see every game at the end of the season....

2006 loved that defense. If McNair had some arm strength left and health left in the playoffs would have been an amazing season capped by a Superbowl win. 10years later that season still stings! McCalister & shomari Rolle shutting down both sides....Giving Ed Reed complete Freedom. Remember...Ed Reed switched to free safety 2006!

But...the AFC wasn't winning superbowls in the 80's. 17 year drought until the Broncos in the Terrell Davis era....

Kelly and Norwood are the two I feel really bad for, and us this year lol.  Flacco, Pitta,Tucker and Williams are four off the top of my head missed their kids first Christmas, for the guys/gals without kids it's a HUGE deal I had to work 12hrs as an RN and the day after, the team did not go to Pitt to lose.

That was the era of the Cowboys, 49ers and Redskins.  I forgot how good the Bengals and Browns were and of course the Bills 4 SB losses.  Those teams all had one thing in common a good line, QB and RB.

I think people are missing the big picture with this team to be honest. 2012 was a magical run but it was with an aging core who either retired or left to be overpaid in free agency. We have been rebuilding for a couple years now and the young core is starting to finally provide a spark. It is very similar to what the Steelers went through a couple years back where they had a couple 8-8 seasons and people were screaming for Tomlin's head. Then that young talent took the next step and they are back where they have been in the playoffs.

I know it has been tough but that is how the NFL is unless you have Brady or Rodgers as your QB. And as much as a playoff spot would be nice, Ozzie now has another chance to work his magic with a top 20 pick to hopefully add an impact player for us.

Steelers had a proven 2X superbowl champion in Big Ben...who got better as he career progressed. he used to read one side of the field and then take off tO run his first 4 seasons.

Flacco is kinda inconsistent in terms of carrying a teams.... so it's never a wait for the right pieces type of issue like Big Ben had. Playoff time I wouldn't take anyone over Flacco...but Flacco as a guy to carry a team to the playoffs with elite play every week I he can't do thus far.

Yeah I agree with you that Flacco is too inconsistent to count on every week but even with that, we still came within losing to the Jets or an Antonio Brown reach of being in it. Not a stretch to think that with one more piece we are back

true. Hell, I feel if Flacco joined the Raider tomorrow they would win it all! Flacco is a guy that can get you over the top!

And if Lee Evans caught that ball in 2012.....we beat the giants.
