24 posts in this topic

The Ravens’ rookie left tackle had his worst game of the season against the 38-year-old linebacker earlier this season. Now healthier and more experienced, Stanley will have a chance to show how much he’s grown over a successful rookie year.

Coaches baloney. Playing next to Marshall Yanda has been the main reason for his development. Give him credit too for taking the opportunity to learn for arguably the best offensive lineman in the game.

Harrison is going to probably crush this kid again. We just need figure out an answer for it. Harrison is old very he is very good on passing downs.

Stanley is the least of our concerns... top two things to worry about are the lack of Jimmy Smith and how many Flacco turnovers we are likely to suffer.

Give it a rest. Think positive. Flacco will do just fine.

I've been waiting for this One on One Matchup all year... C'mon Stanley Put on some James Brown "The Big Payback" then go on the field and attack. Be relentless and keep the pressure on him like KO Osemele did us when we played the Raiders.. Let's Go

We can always hope it turns out that way.

Flacco typically plays really well against the Steelers. All we need is him to be solid, and to avoid the dumb decisions he's made for much of the season.

That was earlier in the season. I say run screens his way and take advantage of his aggressive play. Run the ball at him, go hurry up. Wear the old man down.

Well, maybe, but we're talking about a guy who has five sacks this year. He is a concern, but he ain't JJ Watt, or Von Miller...

They need someone to help block and that's not Pitta. Best go with Kyle.

Yeah, I think so too! Yanda is our main man on the OL and there is no doubt in my mind he has taken Ronnie under his wings. We couldn't ask for a better guy to teach him the ropes. I hope your Xmas is merry. Cheers!

Boyle is another option. With the way that guy moves sometimes it hard to believe that hes 275. I think we drafted him specifically to be a blocking tight end, but hes shown he can do more than that.

One of the more challenging things to do as a LT is to block a guy who is lined up in the wide nine. Barwin doesn't have a lot of speed, so youre not worried about him beating Stanley to the outside (especially with how athletic that Ron is) but there is another element to the wide nine that makes it tough. The DEs only responsibility is to get to the QB. He isn't worried about containing the run, so its pretty much balls to the walls, no hesitation. Not only that, but since the guy is lined up so far outside, there is a lot of room for him to build up a full set of steam before having to engage the tackle. As for the second clip, when a defensive back blitzes, you better be able to put him on his heinie 9 times out of 10. The pancake isn't really the reason that, that clip is impressive. He has a DE lined up on his outside shoulder, and before the snap gets off, that is the guy that RS is supposed to block. But when the ball is snapped the DE stunted to the inside, while a DB blitzed from the outside. Basically the goal is to try to get the LT to commit to the DE who is looping inside, which in turn clears a lane for the blitzing DB. In that situation you really have to rely on your peripheral (a large part of which is blocked by the helmet) vision in order to pick that up. The way Stanley and Yanda handled that, is exactly the way that they draw it up in the meeting room. Just great technique all around. Ron did a great job of engaging the DE, recognizing he was looping inside, and handing him off to Yanda. All the while keeping an eye on blitzers from the outside. As people have already said there is no doubt in my mind that Yanda is playing a huge role in his development. Hopefully that tandem will be together for the foreseeable future. If you didn't know any better you would think that those guys have been playing next to each other for years.

What's being PC about staying positive though?

funny how castillo did not get a shout out

That is funny. You know what else is funny is that Leslie Frazier never gets a shout out, even with all of the articles that are about the secondary. I mean giving a shout out to the positional coach happens all the time. I here about Richard Angulo, Joe Cullen, Bobby Engram and Thomas Hammock all the time
