24 posts in this topic

Philadelphia found success against the league's top-ranked run defense, running for 169 yards on the ground, including 128 from running back Ryan Mathews. The Eagles found success with their stretch-zone scheme.

To the Defense Credit. Joe put the D in a couple of bad situations with the fumble who basically set up a score and the Interception which put the pressure on the D to make the stop.

The Defense can't be on the field constantly. We need to move the ball and eat up time. For goodness sake. We have Tucker who can kick the ball so we only need to get to the 35 yard line for 3 point. Not that I want to settle for that, but even if we get close. Tucker will nail it! Teams would love to have that option. Now the O line is the key and everyone knows it. Sure all the parts need to work together but the O line can make of break any team. With all that said. I see 3 things on the Offence that are troubling.
Blocking (both run and pass) needs to be consistent. We have no real great offence plays. I saw 2 or 3 that were impressive and creative. Other then that. Its a very basic vanilla play book. Wide receivers need to get separation and run tight Tree Routs. Pure speed is good but you need deceptive moves and tactical routs. Lastly..JOE. I hate to be the party pooooper but JOE you hold the ball way to long. When your in trouble, tuck it and run man!! Your throw to Steve Smith for the TD was one of the best I have seen from you all year. But 1 Pass won;t cut it. Stop with wide out check down pass for 1 yard when we need 14 yards for a first down. If you think that we can beat the Steelers with an Offence so predictable and so sub-par then you are Dreaming!! Joe you need to make those In-Between coverage Passes. And we need to get the Tight Ends more involved and used not just for blocking! Our Super run Starts in Pittsburgh this weekend.

From the article:

"So what did the Eagles do to gash the Ravens’ seemingly impenetrable wall?

They brought their zone-stretch run scheme to Baltimore, which they have employed since the days when Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh and Offensive Line Coach Juan Castillo were still in Philadelphia. They do it well.

“I think they did a good job of scheming us up and just blocking us,” Harbaugh said. “It’s a stretch-zone scheme and they were doing a great job of reaching our guys and cutting us off on the backside.”

This begs the question, shouldn't we have been able to handle their "zone-stretch run scheme" if Harbs and Castillo were so familiar with it? Marty was there in Philly also.  Appears this is the second week in a row our coaches were outcoached.

You're completely right. Harbaugh and the coaches should have been able to predict it. That's they're most important job during the week, to analyze and gameplan against the opponent. Which begs the question, what did Harbaugh and his staff do the entire week.

And it's not first time either when Harbaugh fails at his duties as a HC. It's ridiculous. Same thing with what he said about Marty calling a pass on that Flacco INT that led to the comeback of the Eagles. He said "he should've vetoed it". Yeah, you should've. That's your entire job as the HC, so why didn't you?!

In the last 2 games it probably would not have made a difference if Harbaugh was at the game or not. It definitely would not have made anything worse, because he just didn't do anything and was only wise at the post-game press conference, talking about things he should've done. That's some Jeff Fisher type of head coaching right there.

But the players grinded it out and got a W against the Eagles that, once again, covers up most of the errors of Harbaugh.

Just because you know something doesn't mean you can stop it. Everyone knows that Tom Brady is going to pass, that Zeke Elliott is going to run and Ben is going to throw it to Antonio Brown. Yet, it still happens week after week - it appears all coaches must get outcoached every week.

Players have to make plays. Orr gets a bonehead penalty to keep the Eagles drive alive. Weddle gets punked by a rookie QB 1-on-1. That's not making plays, that's causing your team to lose.

The problem is called "3 and out syndrome " The defense has so much film on them and Dan is probably out of ideas.

Who's Dan? Lol, the troll can't even get the names right......

All the excuses could be made regarding the Eagles stretch zone scheme. The bottom line is that we achieved that victory by pure luck. We should have contained and beat them by two TDs and without a last gasp of air on the one yard line with a 2 point conversion shoved down our throats with 4 seconds left. Joe does not do well in the 1-15 yard range on first and ten. Those running plays cause me to have involuntary curse phrasing. I hope Steve throws his helmet right at the D side Tuesday. IMO We do not exhibit the edge to win 5 in a row and a SB. A stroke of luck may occur but I'm feeling an 8-8 season..

That first Orr penalty was observed by Moose Johnson (decent TV analyst-better than Aikman). He thought it was bogus call. "Out coached" is an excellent opinion and I agree. Matthews played great and he did what you said. He did not care if we were number one run D or the tenth ranked team. The scheduling of our game in the dinner hours of Christmas day is cruel.

How about an innovative offense that allows the Ravens D to sit and watch 12-13 play drives with scoring more than Tucker from "50"? If Marty was the answer "WE" wouldn't have been able to hire him.

The Steelers OL contact the defense and don't let up....a lot of holding. That's the reason the runners can stand waiting for a hole to open and then burst through it. It will take a huge game from the LB's to stop them on the ground. The Steelers will be a problem for our defense....both on the ground and in the air.

I could appreciate this game as being lesson to learn from. Matthews ran the ball consistently and #39. They got 3-4 yards that turned into 12-18 yards late in the game. Now it is time not to tuck and run but shut down the Stoolers and Bell. Getting some pass rush and stomping out the run again. Maybe the Ravens offense will learn to not abandon the run when it is working. Passing using effective play action. Sustaining drives keeping your defense fresh....Uh just a thought.

Just RUN the blank ball ! Play stout D and score in the red zone.
No dumb penalties. No turnovers. Let Tucker do his thing when drives stall.

What scares me is that this seems to be trending this way. For the better part of the season teams could not run on us.. but as the season has wore on... teams are finding more success. Maybe it is having more game film on us... maybe it is Various injuries that we have faced. (even though not all has missed time). But whatever it is... this is the wrong time of the year to trend in the wrong direction. Hope they get this corrected ASAP.... cannot afford to allow Pittsburgh to get the run game going.

stop putting 50 McClellan in on the line he doesn't belong there hopefully dean will be gone next year

BigMack.... im with you... McClellan should not see too many snaps. Heck why are we not playing ZSmith more. He looked better on the outside then MCClellan and KC needs to have his chances on the inside if CJ or Zach need a blow. McClellan is a ST guy and not much more. / I also feel like we have become more predictable on defense and our blitz packages (when we do blitz) has become very vanilla

THe issue that I have with it is that Philly was already 1 dimensional going into the game. We knew that their passing game was lacking and we knew that they would need to run the ball to have any chance.

Why not stack the box? Why not make them beat you where they are weak? They are lousy in the passing game... make them beat you there?

I don't get it.. our game plan seemed backwards. Maybe we felt with Jimmy out..that the pass defense needed more support? but I think that is simply a commitment to pressuring rookie QB Carson Wentz not backing the front 7 down..... but throwing more at him.

I didn't understand that defensive game plan and this is typical of a Dean Pees defense. No lead is safe (against any team) since he has come to BMORE

IDK- we have a lot of talent on that side of the ball and sometimes it shows and sometimes it just seems average at best? SMH
