[News] John Harbaugh Wishes He'd Vetoed 'All-Time Worst Play Call'

54 posts in this topic

I thought "Great" we have it sewn up...while following the game on gametrax. Then it said the PASS from Joe Flacco was intercepted. I still don't believe it. At least it didn't cost us the Super Bowl like the dumb play Pete Carroll called.

Could have, should have, would have...that sums up just about all coaches' post-game statements. Hey, at least it was a win. But man, I still have little confidence in this team. Hopefully they have another aberration "Miami" game on Christmas. They're going to need it.

Wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one gets filled up faster John. That one dumb move nearly killed my (and our) season I was so mad! (I'm still mad!) Again, we're talking football 101! On the 10, You run 3 running plays, meander back to the line (We know you guys can do that one!) run the play clock down to 2 seconds on each one and if you don't punch it in, you kick a field goal (I only mention this because although I know we fans all know this but, evidently, Marty doesn't). We have no hope if we're going to continue to make these very simple and bonehead mistakes over and over again. You could take someone out of the stands and do better in the last 2 games we have left!
I'm not even going to go into detail where the heck Joe thought he was throwing it to. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID and it almost cost us our season! Joe says "Wow, Marty's going to let me get 3 TD's in this game" Seriously, THAT'S what you were thinking JOE? That tells me a lot too! I'd like to say it would be a different story if it were just me and my buddies playing out back but I know I would have run as much time off the clock by running the ball. A pitch out, Half back delay and at the most, I might have thrown a screen or end a round.
To make matters worse, later, when we're backed up to OUR OWN 10yd line, THEN, we decide to run it 3 times! SMH!!!!

At least John knows how bad of a play call that was. The HC should not have to be telling the OC not to do that in a game at that stage.

I am not so sure that every play call, Offense or Defense, is run by John before being sent in. But if they are I would love to here which plays, and in what situations that John has vetoed plays in the past.

A bad idea, obviously, and the execution was even worse, but I wouldn't go so far as to say Joe only care about stats, and not winning- if that's what you're implying. At times, he has a goofy way of expressing himself, and I think that's all it was. I'm more worried that, for the last two games, teams are flooding the middle of the field, and Joe isn't figuring it out.

A good reason why Harbaugh and Flacco should be looked at carefully. Running the ball successfully and then make a call like that. No excuse.

Exactly KidNme. I still can't believe they made that call. Of all the dumb decisions the coaching staff has made this year, that has to be the dumbest. Our coaching staff almost cost us another game.

I think everyone agrees it was a dumb coach call. But at some point you have to realize your strengths and weaknesses. Joe Flacco is not an elite quarterback but the OC calls dumb plays like he is. Joe leads the league in pass attempts. That is not how we are built. The Ravens are a run the ball 25 to 30 times a game team. Control the clock. Rest you D.

I think Steve should get rid of both Harbs and Marty.
Because we will not beat the Steelers playing like this.
We gave away two games (Jets, Raiders) this year because of bad coaching.
We should have the AFC in hand not struggling to make the playoffs.

Is there any way to get out from under Joe's mega contract? A trade maybe?

Who would trade for Joe. I doubt we'd get a bag of rocks for Joe Cool.

I think the Giants too

You can cut Joe, whenever you want to. There are cap considerations, of course, but this ain't MLB. Are you saying that you'd pull the trigger, right now?

Why was Marty calling that play to begin with? He's not smart enough to call a run and then Harbs allows it? Pathetic. Next week the Steelers get their revenge on us...let's hope I'm wrong

I just genuinely can't believe that 1) Marty thought throwing the ball was a great idea, 2) Joe thought somebody was open when clearly they weren't, 3) Joe didn't bother questioning the play call. A quarterback with his experience should know that throwing the ball in that situation is lunacy. IMO he went along with it because it would have added to his TD's for the season if Caspar the ghost was actually open.

What happened today, makes no since at all!!! It seems like the Ravens just gave up playing Ravens football and started playing silly football!!! The Seahawks did the same thing and lost the Superbowl, when they threw the ball instead of letting beastmold run the ball and they lost the game, and they should have lost it, because that was a bonehead play that should have never happened!!! Bonehead plays just create bonehead losses, because they just make teams lose, and to lose the Superbowl like that, is just dumb!!! I just don't think that John Harbaugh is the right coach for the job, if you thought you should have vetoed that play, than you should have vetoed it, for because of that play, we almost lost the game and the next time we may lose!!! Can any coach stand up on the Ravens and correct plays when they need to be corrected??? Change the play and make it right, don't guess about it, for to me that shows weakness in the head coach who is suppose to make these call and not guess about it!!! We play the Steelers next week, we cannot afford to make these types of mistakes with them or they will run over us and possibly destroy our playoff hopes!!! We played well enough to win today but we give up to much and made it hard on ourselves!!! But through it all GO RAVENS, but be cool and don't be no fool for no one!!!

I don't think Harbaugh has ever vetoed anything. I think he leaves everything to his coordinators. Unfortunately, these guys are not very good.

even if he made that call I can understand making a aggressive play call but, that read was so bad! I mean he wasn't open in that window, give waller a split second and he is open behind the MLB. That was terrible with NOT throwing the ball away and takin unnecessary sacks! Average Joe continues to not progress its not the OC anymore it falls on the QB to be smart enough to get this offense in and out of plays. Also making the offense better keeping the offense ahead or at least at the sticks!

I thought Marty was smarter than that. He has to take into consideration why Trestman was let go. Trestman was passing too much. Things sure haven't changed much.

If "In Ozzie we trust" is true then our coaching staff must be pretty bad. The question is, are there any better coaches out there? I like harbaugh but how about finding some young innovators instead of continuing to recycle these old HC failures or 20 year career assistants.i

Dixon and West were running effectively for most of the game.  It's refreshing seeing them catch and run on the checkdown receptions, too.  Flacco should have been trying to eat up the clock and had the chance to override the pass call from the sideline.

As hard as Self Righteous John and Pathetic Joe tried to sabotage the Ravens once again, they were not successful in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Even Biscotti must know it's time for these two clowns to go. NO CHANCE the Ravens win in Pittsburgh!

No but you can see it easily happen with this crew but I doubt they will ever get that close.

Kind of ironic that our coaching staff, heavily laden with "former" Eagles personnel almost got schooled BY the Eagles, lol.
