Steve Smith Tirade at practice

103 posts in this topic

Flacco has not shown any signs of progress since the Super Bowl run. His lack of cerebral development is apparent when you compare him to other QB's in the league. He openly breaks down plays and gives away strategic insights in his interviews with media, not even aware of all the info he is giving to his opponents. Everything is so predictable "we take what the defence gives us blah blah". A truly dominant offence will go out there and do whatever it wants.

This offence is so predictable. Get the ball in the playmaker's hands! i.e. reverses, jet sweeps, wr screens, misdirections. We have Steve Smith, Perriman, Wallace who can make plays after the catch.

I think you are overthinking it... He's probably just sick of the overthrows.....

I don't think so at all. Here is Steve Smith Sr. coming back from a horrible double Achilles tear, playing all out, giving max effort on every play and every down, and he's trying to go out like a champ, then here is stone faced Joe Flacco chucking the ball way over his head repeatedly. Steve Smith has a lot of passion. It doesn't always get displayed the proper way, but you can tell he cares. He busts his rump and Flacco just has that stoned face look on his face like he couldn't care less if he made the throw or didn't. Smith was probably already angry and then looking at a perceived nonchalant Joe probably pushed him further.

One of the announcers for the NE game said it perfectly. Joe Flacco is a flatliner. Same expression on his face all the time. John Elway used to have that weird horse tooth grin on his face even after he threw 3-4 interceptions in a game. That's just his normal expression.

To all the other people that think Smith was just mad at himself, the guy has a history of getting into fights with other people. Had that not been Joe; the starting QB, he was ticked off with he probably would have done some pushing and shoving and maybe even swinging.

Problem is Joe needs to be ticked off. I think he is more concerned with hanging with his kids then doing his job.

Ever since joe got the big paycheck and like you said had kids he got worse... I can hear his wife now....

"please joe be careful, don't do anything foolish...it's only a game after all....and when the game is over hurry home so you can watch

the kids and do the dishes so I can go out with the girls"

Ever think he may have been mad at himself? Maybe he needed to get on his bike and get to the ball.

The outburst came in the first hour of practice, after Joe Flacco overthrew Smith on consecutive deep passes along the sideline.

^ Yep!  That's got to be it!

Joe overthrew him twice after running deep routes....so he decided to get pissed off at himself and went to sit in the corner because he could! C'mon bruh!

I keep hearing people say this ridiculous crap....even if it were true, which it isn't, I would put my family over my job too. You say that as if its a bad thing.

Yea... If that was the case I wouldn't fault him.  People forget this is their JOB.  Not everyone loves their work(and I'm not saying he doesn't).  The truth is, I can't even be mad at players who finally get that payday and stop caring.  Of course if it's my team, I get upset, but I understand it.  They've busted their but for peanuts, by comparison. hoping to get that one real payday.  Do what you can while you can.

It's impossible to be both a good father AND the fully accountable face of a football franchise. Simply not possible. Not even for $120 million.

I think some of you are hyping this a little Steve Smith is an emotional guy he knows if they don't win these three he's done no more shot at a super bowl he's probably emotional as Sizzle said Monday was a tough loss the team wanted that one in sure everyone is frustrated but at this time of the year Joe shouldn't be over throwing receivers at practice

I could give a rat's butt either way, but it's comical how a reporter's observation at a practice turns into gospel and some great sign.  lol.  It's a freaking practice after a terrible loss, I would hope they are pissed off. Who cares why? As Smitty said, "According to you guys you already know. Why am I going to comment if you already know".

Like I said, I couldn't care less either way, but remember it's their job to hype their observations to get clicks and reads, whether what they say is true really isn't important to them. Pretty much why players don't like the media.

Of course it's practice!  But you play how you practice!  But, the excuses in this place that are constantly made for why this or that article, network, analyst, and website and reporter and source etc., should never be taken serious or listened to, especially when it goes against your golden boy is quite expected.

I ain't a Flacco fanboy whatsoever, so like you, I couldn't care less about it either but neither am I so quick to try and discredit it.  See, unlike most, I don't need a reporter or article to sway or paint a negative picture to me about Flacco and his gameplay.  I've witnessed him for 9 seasons now.  Besides one lighting in a bottle season, I already know what he is but that is for a different thread. :D

I'm not delusional to Flaccos play since the super bowl but in reality we haven't gotten a huge taste in my opinion 2014 which wasn't a half bad season last year but we know how that went and then this season coming off a ACL/MCL tear in week 12 which normally takes an entire year to come back from and he was out there the season opener I tend to give him a small pass early this season I was expecting it the guy has never had a major injury and I think most players understand what that does to you mentally maybe Steve is sick of being patient and waiting for the Joe he knows to come back I'm just saying to be fair to the flacco bashing we haven't had much of a taste since 2014 I'd say any game before the bye week I give him a pass there is a mental and physical barrier he had to get over he shouldn't have even technically been out on that field

SSS wants to win PERIOD. You dont get that upset unless you care. When your doing something and you know it can be done better or smarter you get upset because you care and want to do it right.

I don't think it is that big of a deal as well. I didn't say the whole team was falling apart because of this. I just speculated as to the why Steve Smith might have reacted the way he did. Smith has always been a passionate guy. You see it on the field. You get that sense from him when he talks. He gets chippy in practice and has blown up and gotten into fights before. He broke a teammate's nose in Carolina.

I know if I am busting my butt working and I look over my shoulder and I see somebody else lagging behind and is all smiles and giggles and I know he's making as much as me or more than me, I'd get ticked off too. I wouldn't go run and throw a hissy fit about it or go start a fight with a guy. I'd just observe a couple more times and see if that is just a one time thing or a habit. If it is habitual I might have a talk with my manager about it. Either I need to get paid more because I work harder, or this joker needs to get a pay cut or maybe needs to find another job since this one doesn't seem all that important to them.

We weren't there so we don't know exactly what went down. We don't know if Flacco was ragging on himself as well. We don't know if Smith was upset at himself because he couldn't catch up to a pass he thinks he should have, or if Flacco is just air mailing it. Based on Flacco's play so far this season, I am going with the latter. Flacco has thrown some ugly looking deep passes this year.

not sure we watched the same game the pats pushed our d around some and though we pressured brady he was sacked only on a Weddle blitz.  our secondary has holes.  you saw weddle get burned and tavon young get targeted.  its not a bad D but its not a killer D either.

it starts in philly what we do in that game says a lot about our season. its fitting though isn't it, to get in the dance we have to beat our nemesis again. We have to win that one in pitsburgh.  all the marbles are on the table and it will be playoff game. what more can you ask for!!!@!!!!

We sure as heck watched the same game but we wore different glasses. I saw a D that played away at NE and held Tom Brady to 2 points per possession without our #1 CB most of the game. If our offense was able to sustain drives and only gave the ball to NE 8 or 9 times then they don't even reach 21 points. If you give Tom Brady 14 chances to make adjustments and attack your weakness then your asking for disaster. Sure we didn't get sacks because Tom regularly released the ball sooner than he wanted to and they punted the ball on a regular basis. The only 2 consistent players were Yanda and Dixon.

And yes. It all starts in Phili! One game at a time and if we win we get an early playoff game at Pitt. Not much one can ask for. Let's keep our heads up ;)

may be Joe respected Steve's speed so much so it looked like it was overthrown....

It took couple seasons for Joe to truly utilize Boldin at fullest; Joe realized that if there's one on one with Boldin, just throw back shoulder or jump ball and he'll get it.

For Steve, I think he ran some of crisp routes in the league so Joe and Steve need to get on the same page as well as getting timing down.

Chemistry Chemistry Chemistry.....

I think he's still pissed from last weeks "check down over the middle show" type of game. He wasn't targeted much if at all, why?

the excuses around here never stop. Absolutely ridiculous. Why can't we just all agree that Flacco is no better than an average QB. And even that is giving him the benefit of the doubt. If not for a miracle 3-game streak in 2012, he might not even be on the team in 2016.

Edit- "Holy Jesus" was edited out of my post? No different than "Holy Santa Clause" or "Holy Tooth Fairy"

Excuses?  What excuses?  I merely said no one here knows what Smitty was pissed about. Could be that it was because he was overthrown. Could be that he's old and frustrated that he can't run like he used to. Could be that he burned his eggs that morning. Who knows? But just because a reporter, prior to even doing an interview with the guy, makes on assumption on why he feels a certain way it don't mean squat. They are paid to sensationalize even the most trivial of events, so like the players I am very leery about anything written as opinion. You know what they say opinions are like. hahaha

Maybe if he had waited to interview the guy and had written factual info from that interview it would mean something. But this? And unrelated really, but I know you don't need a reporter or article to form your opinion of Flacco's play because no matter what he does you would still think Tyrod should be starting in front of him. But as you said, that is for a different thread.   :D

Regret that he didn't sign with the patsies so he could have ended his career with a QB that would have utilized his talents and given him a shot at the SB!

He found that out last Sunday and it may not even be a conscious thought for him but he knows deep down that he blew it by not getting on the plane and continuing on to New England after stopping here instead of signing with us.

Flacco had 324 yards 2 TDs 1 INT. He was moving the ball down the field. It was the defense that gave up a huge play then couldnt get off the field when blount was getting the ball yet people blame Joe?

Defense and special teams lost this game.

Overall though we played one of the best teams in the league and made it competitive when it should have been a blow out.
