[News] Ravens Confident In Secondary, Even Without Jimmy Smith

I said at the beginning of this year that they shouldn't have restructured Joe's contract (but what do I know), now were stuck with him for at least a couple more years. And your right. Those stats from 2012 mean nothing today. Move on from it, it's over, in the past.......DONE. I'm sure the whole elite argument should be over by now lol

So who is your alternative QB that gives the Ravens a chance at a SB?

Bring in a CB, dont wait. This thing could get real ugly if Young twists his ankle. Why would the Ravens wait when the playoffs are in the picture and Smith has been down twice. The team is not as strong without him that is obvious, lose another valuable player and it they could be out before they get a chance to get Smith back. Imagine if they pick up a decent 2nd or 3rd guy who comes to life....that could mean going deep in the play-offs. Go for it Steve, what do we have to lose? a back up player and some salary cap foe a shot at the playoffs...take it.

the Ravens secondary is not that good with Smith, better than last year, but still not that good. Dont be surprised if Wentz get well this weekend.

Huh?

We are going to play the Eagles not a genius called Bellichick. From pinning us in the end zone to giving Hogan a game winner, he proved to me that the Pats organization can win anytime it wants to. When we take the field Sunday, our team focus should be we are the winner anytime we will it. Work to do. Three games left.

Why not? We should exercise all options.

Run the ball when you're down 20 points and see how many games you win......

Pass the ball 50-60 times when you're the Ravens and see how many games you win. Did you know that every game Flacco either tied Testeverde's record or then broke the record for most completions in a game we lost that game except for the very last time against Miami?

where is frank walker when you need him?

At this point "Poison" Ivy would be an upgrade. Maybe we can coax Deion Sanders out of retirement again?

Ryan "The Golden" Mallett? He beat Pittsburgh last year so you know he's the second coming of Otto Graham.

Weddle omitted it was his fault but in his defense if he was playing with players whose track record does not inspire must trust they can do their job. Weddle wants to win so bad that he is jeopardizing his own duties trying to ensure secondary success. Its a shame after 4 years Ravens truly only have one good trusting & guy in that secondary. Jimmy is not the solution.

Can you imagine how much trouble we'd be in if we didn't grab Weddle...?

That's a funny statement. Confident without Jimmy when the only corner to play decent outside of Jimmy is our Rookie 4th round pick Tavon Young.

Jimmy going down led to Webb moving to corner and Elam falling down giving up a TD bomb.

Jimmy went down right before halftime  vs Giants and in the second half Odell Beckman literally gained over 180 yds.

I agree with you, but that TD wasn't Elam's fault, and he didn't fall down. He stumbled, sure, but didn't fall.

And I'd argue he stumbled because his instincts and his assignment were clashing. His assignment was to cover in front of him, but then he sees Hogan streaking past him, and no Weddle over top. He got stuck in the middle.

Are you really making excuses for Elam's performance on the field.....wow

I thought we were the #1 defense with him on the field, and our pass D is about last without him....hmmmmm. You're right, he's probably not that good. And the drop off from him to Wright is minimal?????hmmm

I was really disappointed with the team's effort against New England. It wasn't just about Jimmy Smith getting hurt. The game plan was just atrocious on offense. If it wasn't for the special teams play it would have been a blow out.

It was very close to being 40-3. Not cool. Hester has screwed us a few times. He's as bad as Jacoby was when we brought him back. I'm stoked to see Camp play, and hopefully some very pissed off Ravens.

These guys can be confident all they want but the issue is they just arent that good an there under sized. Shareece wright had one good game an that was it. Powers is a solid slot corner an Elam shouldn't be playin corner at all. We don't have enough depth if you have to play Elam at corner. We have the same issue for the last five years. Not enough quality starting corner...smh!!

Semantics

these words are synonyms, if you thought I literally meant Elam fell to the ground then you are sadly mistaken. One should not have to explain literally if you saw him falling all over himself, slipping, stumbling, tripping with no contact from the WR.   The WR didn't run some devastating route with a fake, quick cut or double move.  It's absolutely Elam's fault if you have man coverage with a slot WR and you never touch or impede the WR on a go-route then who knows else's fault can it be. Even if you want to give Weddle some percentage of blame then Elam still gets a bulk of the blame for his poor play and error!
