[News] Ravens Confident In Secondary, Even Without Jimmy Smith

78 posts in this topic

The real difference in NE vs Bal Bill is not letting his coordinators run those systems he is involved in every every decision in the game plan. IF Joe played and threw so many checkdowns Bill would bench him and fire the OC.

I wouldn't take that cheater Bill. Guess some fans just think he is the greatest.

What do they mean, "it's not time to hit the panic button"? We should have been leaning on that button for the past year. Probably would have helped to pick up a free agent CB. We picked up safety Weddle and coach Frazer, but forgot the CB.

I was really disappointed with the team's effort against New England. It wasn't just about Jimmy Smith getting hurt. The game plan was just atrocious on offense. If it wasn't for the special teams play it would have been a blow out.

When I saw Brady showing that high emotion and fire on the sideline, I couldn't help but say "I wish Flacco was like that". I knew at that point in the 1st quarter that the game was over. Flacco cannot match the competitiveness of Brady. Only Ray Lewis was capable of pushing this team over that edge.

Which is why I was upset at people who criticized Ray for criticizing Flacco. I do not know what goes through some peoples mind, but when a legend like Ray Lewis gives out criticism, especially to a player that is playing for the team he fought for, you just shut up and listen. I'd take Ray Lewis over flacco any day...point blank. Flacco should have been thankful to get those words from Ray. he only said it because he truly cares about this organization. Unfortunately there are people in this Ravens organization that never gave as much as Ray did, but they feel like they are in a position to downplay his words.

A couple of yrs ago Reed criticized Flacco. That lit a fire under him and he played very well the next couple of games. Ray Lewis lit that fire again. We just need some veteran to criticize Flacco about every other week and we can win the S B.

the Ravens secondary is not that good with Smith, better than last year, but still not that good. Dont be surprised if Wentz get well this weekend.

That's a funny statement. Confident without Jimmy when the only corner to play decent outside of Jimmy is our Rookie 4th round pick Tavon Young.

Jimmy going down led to Webb moving to corner and Elam falling down giving up a TD bomb.

Jimmy went down right before halftime  vs Giants and in the second half Odell Beckman literally gained over 180 yds.

Ray Didn't throw 11 touchdowns in the 2012 Playoff run.I really don't care what Ray says he is retired, move on.

Funny. Perhaps you should move on from 2012. Ray is gone, and so is 2012, along with Flacco's stats from that playoff run that YOU can't seem to let go of. They mean absolutely nothing now.

Haha. Maybe SSS will be that one to do it.

'CONFIDENT', from any upper-crust also means to be delusionally accepted from the lower-crusts perspective

Chris Lewis-Harris please....instead of Powers in the slot cb position. I'm not sure what he has to offer but I've seen what Powers has to offer and it ain't much.

What has any of this have to do with Jimmy and the secondary being confident without him?

I'm honestly not worried about the defense. i'm worried about this 50/50 offense. The fans deserve to know more about these lackluster check down passes Flacco and our offense keeps doing. It's like watching a pre mature offense sometimes. Flacco will throw it to the FB who's only about 2 yards ahead knowing he's about to get lit up by the defender shadowing him. I do not understand why this offense is still running these plays.

What is it?!?!? Are the receivers not getting open fast enough?? If so why haven't they made adjustments or audibles to counter the blitz?

Are they not putting in the effort during practice to be a more consistent/dangerous offense? We had that one great game against the Dolphins but we should not settle for that.
The fans deserve an honest answer from this organization on these check down passes Flacco is throwing over and over again, because it's happening in every game that we lose/

They need to run the ball, and run, and run. 52 passes to 15 runs is Terrible. You can't have Play Action if the Defense Knows you are going to throw it all the time. When Kubiak was Coordinator he kept running and Forset got most of his yards late in the game. The Patriots had a zone dense and rushed 3 players alot, and we didn't run? The OC needs to get on the ball on say "Run".

Run the ball when you're down 20 points and see how many games you win......

I love it. Minkster trying to sell us on the teams confidence in the secondary without the Jimmy. What is this, the twilight zone. Next, they'll be trying to sell us a bridge.

You know your talking about a grown man with children. Elite QB don't need that.

We weren't down 20 points the whole game. If you're down 1 score, or even 10-12 points, running the ball shouldn't be off the table. That is asinine.

I remember last year when Peyton stole the job back from Brock. On the series that won him the job back, and brought the team back to take the lead, I don't think Peyton threw a single pass. All he did was read the defense, change to the correct run, and let them go to work. And they marched down the field and scored.

We need Flacco to be able to make those reads and audibles. Marty needs to have the b@lls to run from behind....and not just that stupid shotgun power play, although we are admittedly getting better at it.

I agree with you, but that TD wasn't Elam's fault, and he didn't fall down. He stumbled, sure, but didn't fall.

And I'd argue he stumbled because his instincts and his assignment were clashing. His assignment was to cover in front of him, but then he sees Hogan streaking past him, and no Weddle over top. He got stuck in the middle.

Weddle omitted it was his fault but in his defense if he was playing with players whose track record does not inspire must trust they can do their job. Weddle wants to win so bad that he is jeopardizing his own duties trying to ensure secondary success. Its a shame after 4 years Ravens truly only have one good trusting & guy in that secondary. Jimmy is not the solution.

Perhaps the running issue all year is due to a questionable line- for many reasons, that cannot run block- other than a healthy Yanda (others may run block well; I do not know the pros and cons of each lineman) I am almost certain that we have no blocking tight ends- unless Waller (when in) is capable.

If Darren Sproles plays at 80%, this secondary is in deep trouble.

You made a pun, Crusader :) "DEEP" trouble

Yanda is a tough mauler that also knows how to pass block, Ducasse has always been a much better run blocker than pass blocker, Zuttah is a decent run blocker, Wagner more of a run blocker, Stanley's knock was that he is not a run blocker but more of a finesse guy.

The problem has been the play calling. Sure Pitta can't block well, but you don't have to run outside the tackles every play, especially when you have an interior line like we have.

The team has Boyle back now and might be getting Gillmore back.

I am glad they're confident. I'm not and the stats tend to back up my skepticism. I doubt anyone thought that Josh McCown could chuck on us for 450 yards one time, and then almost do it a second time had he not gotten knocked out of the game with an injury. Never doubt any QB with a speedy WR against our depleted secondary. Matt Elam has a huge target on him whenever he's in the game. He can't cover and everybody knows it.

Funny. Perhaps you should move on from 2012. Ray is gone, and so is 2012, along with Flacco's stats from that playoff run that YOU can't seem to let go of. They mean absolutely nothing now.

I said at the beginning of this year that they shouldn't have restructured Joe's contract (but what do I know), now were stuck with him for at least a couple more years. And your right. Those stats from 2012 mean nothing today. Move on from it, it's over, in the past.......DONE. I'm sure the whole elite argument should be over by now lol
