Merged Jimmy Smith

115 posts in this topic

I've never known a player that is hurt as much as this guy. Another atrocious Ozzie Newsome Pick. Jimmy Smith is not elite. He never was, so people should stop saying he is. Yeah he's elite. Elite at getting hurt whenever he goes against competition that will expose him for what he is. Our last great cover corner was Chris McAllister, but sadly he was a little bit crazy and wasn't heard from once let go from the Ravens. Jimmy Smith is slightly above average, but seldom plays because he's on the team to collect a pay check. Same goes for Joe Flacco, who plays but looks terrible most of the time.

yeah and no

just going to copy n paste this from my comments in the good bad ugly thread

my point exactly, our problem with our secondary is we're depending on a guy who is injury prone - only reason elam was on the field tonight

need to move on, not totally but we need to build our secondary thinking jimmy will not play - we need to add a #1 corner and i would look to add another corner who can play slot but ok if called to go outside in a pinch

we look like - new #1 corner, #2 Jimmy, Tavon slot, - backups - wright, canady, another slot corner not powers

when Jimmy smith gets injured because he will, its just a matter of when

#1 corner stays where he is, tavon either bounces out or stays in the slot, wright, canady, draft pick comes in

2014 injured, 2015 injured, 2016 looks like were going down the same road

stop crossing your fingers and hoping injury prone guys will stop being injured, go out and get help

So far this season Jimmy has been knocked out of Giants game, didn't play vs Dallas and was knocked out of today's game

Our secondary can't absorb losing him against tier 1 opponents.

Please give some sort of plan or idea of how we can avoid losing our #1 corner in big games moving forward?

This is idiotic

Why??

The guy is constantly getting hurt and we lose once he goes out

Do we keep crossing our fingers and hoping he never gets hurt again or do we start thinking about plan B

I am a firm believer,

big players step up and play in big games

C-MAC was our dude but that is in the past (hope he is well)

I sat there on draft night hoping we get jimmy

and when  philly drafted the lineman(out the league)

we draft him , he was slow to start but he came on

Jimmy is not a complete shut down but he will lock down some #1 WR's

he need to start eating right and taking care of his body

maybe he is (I am not privy)  just injury prone.

You can't help  when your leg or ankle gets rolled up  on. Its not like he just keeps pulling a hammy or something. And the fact that we struggle everytime he's out shows he is a top notch corner. Get a clue.

To be fair, yesterday his cleat looked like it got caught in the fieldturf and his knee bent akwardly. that injury would have happened to anybody. I wish the Ravens had landed Marcus Peters though, if we are saying "what if".

Such a useless post,  but a legit topic.  How about suggesting solutions? Cut him? Trade him? What about his cap hits? Try to sound informed at least.

Jimmy Smith played some last night so yes, he does in fact play.

We really need some depth behind him though as he is starting to build an injury history amd when he doesn't play our secondary doesn't really stand a chance.

I think if 99% of players have their ankle plant into the ground like, they are going to be out of the game....

Come on, that is a legit injury. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking that we will finish out the season without him, going up against Antonio Brown on Christmas and probably AJ Green in the final game. This was a huge blow to our team, HUGE! Ihad a terrible night and this day is not going any better since I am still thinking about it.

Not necessarily JJ.  I'm not saying that Jimmy is not a top notch corner at all but what his absence shows me is a lack of depth at the CB spot.

I agree. Yes, he's had injury problems, but that injury last night was unlucky. Simple as that. Jimmy is a huge part of this defense. I don't really care what anyone says, this team needs Jimmy now more than ever. If we are going to make a playoff push, our chances are a lot stronger with him. I'm okay with missing him for the Eagles game, but we need him for the Steelers and Bengals games.

Jimmy Smith is made of paper mache. He is hurt all the time. Some of you will, of course, continue drinking the Kool Aid. Calling people names does not change the fact. Grow up.

The team needs to find a corner, or draft one next year, that actually plays and can cover the better receivers. As high as he was drafted, he has not been a good investment for this team.  The team had chances to get corners in past drafts as well as receivers. Ozzie has failed at doing this. Accept it, and move on.:)
