189 posts in this topic

Do we target a RB? Is Dixon our lead guy for the future or change of pace? How high would we target one? Anyway, here's ranking with tiers:

Tier 1:

1. Leonard Fournette, LSU

2. Dalvin Cook, FSU

_________

Tier 2:

3. D'Onta Foreman, Texas

4. Nick Chubb, Georgia

5. Christian McCaffrey, Stanford

____

Tier 3:

6. Royce Freeman, Oregon

7. Alvin Kamara, Tennessee

8. Wayne Gallman, Clemson

9. Samaje Perine, Oklahoma

I'm in the draft a RB every year camp.  I'm not sure we'll be looking at one high this year unless the value is great, but I fully expect another mid-late round pick used on a RB.

Chubb is still easily my favorite back in the class. Vision and power are unreal, plenty speed as well. Health and receiving ability have some concerns though, so I'm not an advocate that we take him as early as he's likely to go, but I think as a pure runner he's as good as anyone in the class at the position.

I think Dixon is taking over next year. This feels like ray rice rookie year when he split reps with McGhee then eventually became the workhorse. I think more pressing needs like OL, DL, WR should be drafted. But you know Ozzie, BPA.

Agreed, I like him better than McCaffrey actually

Same. If a quality RB is in the mid rounds I can see Ozzie grabbing him, but only if that guy is head and shoulders over the other players left. Otherwise, we're probably going to roll with Dixon and West again next year.

There is a possible exception to that though. There's some RBs that are pretty good returners, and we could certainly use one of those.

Ya me too especially when your talking value. Plus he doesn't have the miles that mccafrey has. The only issue I see with Kamara is ball security. Otherwise he's going to be one heck of a weapon for any team.

I think we'll probably take a running back later in the draft, I still want LT to pan out but these injuries are ridiculous, for as much as I rode Camp about the constant injuries, I'd be a hypocrite if I gave LT a pass. And Buck just doesn't provide anything anymore outside of ST duties since Dixon is now clearly out go-to receiving back. I don't think what Buck provides on ST is irreplaceable, so I think we'll grab someone who either adds something to our offense or has more ST potential sort of like what we did with Anthony Allen way back in 2012 or 2011 draft.

Another guys that I like is Marcus Cox from App St. his vision is pretty crazy, go and watch him against Tennessee and during the television game against Miami before he got injured early, he has the potential to be a pretty good complimentary back, I have doubts about whether he could be a feature back but the patience and vision are there.

James Conner - University of Pittsburgh

He has a great story on and off the field.

In three-plus seasons at Pitt, James rushed for 3,701 yards and 52 TDs, while catching 29 passes for 409 yards and four TDs.

He just announced his plans to entry the NFL draft this past week. Since I won't be able to watch him play for Pitt next year, I would love to watch him play for the Ravens.

I'd be a big fan of this pick. I think he'd be a great complement to Dixon and be a bit more reliable than West.

Just saw on twitter that Chubb is returning to UGA for his senior year. Good move imo. Stock is probably low because he didn't appear fully over his knee injury this season.

Connor would be one of the few I like Perine is another one but they both have injury concerns and also West will be cheap to retain and has shown potential to be very solid. Not a huge fan of the RB every year thing it has not been very good to us. Pierce was good for a year LT injured Allen special teamer who I think has some potential but hasn't been involved in the offense. Dixon has been decent but was slow getting going because the injury but we usually only carry 3 so the numbers game means we would get rid of a guy we drafted in the last 3 years.

I suppose it was the right move to return, I was still holding out some hope that we'd get a steal in him in the third, but if he stays healthy and plays like he was the past two years then he'll lock himself into the first round.

I'm sure he wasn't totally healthy but as a RB I am coming out remember Marcus Lattimore from South Carolina get out while somewhat healthy someone will reach but take the money

With Dixon and West set as the 1-2 punch of the future, a nice idea would be to get a Sproles-like lightning in a bottle that could come in the second half and make a tired defense pay, hit the hole and take it very far if not to pay dirt. One guy I would think of for that role is Jahad Thomas, who's heavily undersized but comes out like he's shot out of a cannon.

Ya we really need a scat back. If he returns punts that's a major plus. Alvin kamara is really lightening out of a bottle but he's a great receiver and returner

Harbaugh said he's happy with West and Dixon. Feels like they're key pieces. But team needs to add another style back.

First of all, who WOULDN'T be happy with these two. Now this is interesting coming from Harbs as maybe a scat back could be in consideration. I'd love to see one on the team personally.

I think we need a bulldozer-type of RB.

I think James Conner would be a good pick to be our #3 back, not quite sure where he'll go yet. Also the BYU back, I can't think of his name, Jamaal Williams maybe?, showed a ton of power in their bowl game, seems like he could also be a good pick to round out our backfield.

Wouldn't be opposed to that, but I just prefer a De'Anthony Thomas kind of back.

And no, I have no idea if anyone in this draft is similar to him. In fact, I defer to people like yourself who seems to follow prospects a lot closer than I do.

I think Joe Williams from Utah might be sort of what you're looking for, supposedly has been clocked at 4.3 too, not sure how true that is but he's definitely a fast guy.

Oh so THIS is the guy who came out of retirement? Didn't he have some crazy breakout game upon his return?

Yep, left football for a month, he cited a whole host of reason as to why, came back and did really well. First game back he ran against 179 against Oregon State, second game back against UCLA he put up 332 yards. Only one of his 7 games back he didn't cross 100 yards - 97 against Colorado. In the bowl game he also put up 222 yards. He's an interesting prospect.
