Merged Major Media Complaints

61 posts in this topic

There were like 5 articles up all day Sunday.

They ranked us #8 in their power rankings... ahead of the Steelers.

And there was equal coverage in their weekly recap. Everything I've read has been high praise and how no one will want to face us.

The stuff on the homepage is just the most recent and the most clicked (which they don't decide obviously). We're a mid market team. So obviously teams with huge fan bases nationally like Pitt, Dallas, and NE are going to be front and center more often bc they generate the most clicks.

The people who know and matter respect us. If they don't who cares? We know what we are.

Are we self conscious about having a smaller something than others? If you're confident you don't worry about what others say or think.

Just now, ALPHA said:

We're a small market team with one convincing win, nobody outside of this city cares.

even if we win the superbowl - the cowboys, seahawks and giants are the likely opponents who are darlings of media in various different ways and their failure would probably dominate lol

Pretty annoying Seattle gets that treatment when we're a more successful franchise overall.

you can understand it to a certain extent though - they went to back to back superbowls, have an interesting coach in pete carrol, a qb who until recently dealt exclusively in circus plays, marshawn lynch, and an incredibly well advertised and marketed defense

as long as richard sherman is talking smack and seattle has a good defense and a good record they will be talked about

we had a chance to put everybody on notice,That  Dallas game slipped away,

I will gladly trade that Dallas game for this game against the NFL's golden boy " Brady "

NE is wounded, we know how to play them and PITT,

if the stars align we can really make some noise

NE - RAVENS, at denver jets , at miami 11-5

Pitt - at bills at cincy RAVENS browns  8 to 9 wins

Denver -  at tenn, pats, at kc,da raiders  9-7

can we win out, this is the question?

Blame the Refs at that Dallas game. They did so that can make the RAVENS vs STEELERS AFCN race interesting plus it helps TV ratings when they play each other.  NFL is becoming a rigged sport just like the NBA and WWE is.

As I've gotten older I try to blame officials less and less, but the subjectiveness and more importantly unequal subjetiveness of calling holding can really, really flip a game, it's a momentum thing. It might seem like a small blip, and someone may roll there eyes, but one big first down that takes you into their territory that suddenly becomes a 2nd and 20 leading to a punt can flip a game. That works on the reverse, one no call that leads to a TD is huge. Dallas got away with some holding that game and we didn't, it was the first game all year where I really felt we were treated unfairly by the refs, not saying we win, unfortunately we don't know how it plays out. The no call PI against the Jets in the endzone was also brutal, but, we really didn't deserve to win that game and that kind of was a chuck and pray play, though I'm sure the Steelers or Patriots get the call....

What about no interference call when they show that hold on Mike Wallace. And when Webb was all over Dez Bryant they call pass interference. And when Jimmy Smith was holding on Jason Witten they called illegal contact.

I was going to add PI / Illegal contact into that uneven subjectiveness that can make officiating impact a game in favor of one team. You're right, I forgot it was more than holding that game, like I said, I was livid after that game and truly felt the refs had an agenda to help out Dallas that game.

Historic examples that truly bother me:

1. Seahawks vs Steelers superbowl - Insane, the head ref 5 years after that game who was retired at that point admitted they botched calls that favored Pittsburgh each time that directly impacted the outcome of that game. That game made me sick.

2. Ravens vs Steelers divisional playoff - The flop that was awarded to the Steelers as a hold on Webb's punt return for a TD, we are up by 4 instead of tied in that scenario.

3. Ravens vs Patriots 2007 - I'm over it because they lost in the SB, and I really think if we win that game they win the SB, but the Pats got 4 free sets of downs on their final "GW" drive.

4. Ravens vs Colts 2006 Divisional Playoff - Ed Reed intercepted Manning and they called him out of bounds and blew the play dead when a potential INT return for a TD was forming. I from the upper deck saw he was in, TV confirms it, and I went back and watched the game to find the play on youtube, it was a terrible call. When in doubt don't call it, let the review settle it.

5. Ravens vs Bengals 2014 - Steve Smith OPI flop call, the biggest home job call I've ever seen possibly. The Bengals go ahead TD the drive before literally has Sanu doing the same if not worse.

6. Ravens vs Bengals 2009 - Ravens returned a fumble for a TD but somehow the play was called dead? But yet the Ravens were awarded the ball, so why was the play called dead?, keep your whistles in your mouth when you can always go back and review the play

7. Ravens vs Patriots 2009 - Tom Brady begs for a roughing the passer call on Suggs and gets it, it leads to the game deciding TD. Oh btw, Tom Brady wasn't touched at all on the play but was given the flag.

8. Ravens vs Patriots 2011 AFCCG - Tom Brady had 2 INTs called back for ticky tack Illegal Contact penalties, but later in the game on the Ravens one play after the Lee Evans drop don't get the call when Pitta is literally mauled.

9. Ravens vs Steelers 2010? - Santonio Holmes TD not called a TD on the field reversed with no indisputable evidence, only the Steelers could get that away game call to decide the game.

10. Ravens vs Cardinals 2015 - The Urschel ineligible did not report debacle, really just bothersome because of what NE did to us and then the in-factual mockery of Harbaugh for trying to do the same thing but not getting the rule right when he actually did get it right.

11. Ravens vs Bengals 2015 - Cincinnati gets 3-4 illegal contact / holding calls on their first drive to extend their 3 and outs and they score a TD.

12. Ravens vs Bengals 2009 - Chad Johnson can never put his helmet on right and therefore because a legal hit looked too violent the Bengals get their 4 and out extended and win the game on that drive.

13. Ravens vs Oakland 2015 - Home job Illegal contact on the game ending INT subsequently sets up the game winning TD for the other team.

14. Ravens vs Lions 2007 - Mike Carey, like Ed Hocholi, thinks the show is about him and started taking it personal and started enjoying calling penalties on the Ravens and proceeded to call 22 on us, including flagging Ngata on a 4 and out goalline stand for flicking off the crowd setting up a TD.

15. Ravens vs Bengals 2007 - Todd Heap OPI on the game winning TD, a complete joke. The Bengals have beaten us twice because of our game winning TDs being called back, I hate the Bengals, hope they never win another playoff game, ever.

I'm missing so many, like how the Bengals and Patriots get away with blocking on WR screens before the ball is thrown / pick plays for the Patriots / Seahawks being allowed to hold in the secondary, but yea sry, I got carried away and just started listing everything I could remember...

Kind of an immature post but it was fun to list out some bad calls that didn't go our way lol.

Im making a point.. When Ravens have a great game networks don't talk about it. But when Tom Brady has an awesome 300 yards passing game oh yeah the networks will mention how great he was in that game.

Your point is stupid and false. NFL.com talks about New England blowouts too. That said it's ridiculously stupid that you're even bringing up patriots media attention with regards to Baltimore.  So again if you want to talk about the teams whose bandwagons you jump on go to their mb.

if anything it's the other way round - when tom brady has an awesome game its hardly news anymore so it doesnt get enormous coverage especially with the season he's having

and the networks have literally not stopped talking about the ravens this week - it's almost unsettlingly positive, particularly when we're going on the road against a team as historically dominant as the pats

As a whole franchise , sure(barely), but Pete has had that team in the SB 2 times since he got there.  They've been a model of success since he touched down.  Haven't missed playoffs and since drafting Wilson are always legitimate SB contenders.

Also can't blame the media with the offense's inconsistencies.  This is the first game all season they've shown up for.

I remember we won two in New England.

All of this "we're a small market or mid market" talk is merely a crutch for our team's lack of media attention imo.  People love winners...period!  It doesn't matter if they came from a small or large market!  What overcomes all of that nonsense is how well the team performs.

Do they win games decisively that they are "suppose" to win?  Are they able to perform well in primetime slots?  Are they consistently playing good football? Are they capable of putting road wins together?  Or, is their offense trash?  Running game pathetic?  Defense weak as wet toast?  QB shaky and flaky etc?

To me, all of these things come into play with being a team that is constantly being pubbed up in the media or not.

The thing is the rule book says the field goals cant be reviewed. But Refs overturn it that cost Ravens the game

Oh god yea you're right, they can't 'review' it so they just had a long 'discussion' despite our team being in the locker room. That was the icing on the cake for a lousy 2007. Btw, this triggered my memory on a 2004 or 2005 home game (can't remember) against the Browns where we needed a win to make the playoffs and the refs missed an obvious face mask on Jamal Lewis that cost us big on the final drive.

Boo hoo they didn't put us on the NFL network but they did the Steelers. Last time I looked, games, playoff seeding and championships weren't decided by the amount of articles we receive.

Some of you guys sound like a small child who didn't receive the toy they wanted Christmas morning.

You see the Media is biased on Ravens but not on Steelers or Pats just like CBS NFL TODAY  ignored this story.

Just watched the game.  The commentators sycophantic buttering up of this guy is sickening.  I was almost vomiting at one point.  OK he's a great player but to go on and on and on about the guy.  Its pathetic.  Is this normal ? Get a grip man (men).
