Justin Forsett released...Again!

In case anybody was wondering or even cared there was news a few days ago that the Detroit Lions cut Justin Forsett. He didn't play very much for them even when he was on the roster and was essentially the third string option on a team that struggles to run the ball as well. How quickly he rose and fell. I personally thought he was never a bad running back. He was never "the guy" on any team save for the Ravens. He always put up pretty good numbers in the proper system.

I think the death of the cut block essentially destroyed the zone run scheme we ran here in Baltimore. It was something new for our offensive line when Kubiak came to town and we geared up our offensive line draft picks in recent years to try to get a little more agile up front instead of going with the smash mouth road graders we had before. I noticed that this year we seem to do most of our best running when we're going between or just off the tackles. Trying to bang it outside usually is when we get most of our losses.

Combined with a no-huddle or muddle-huddle offense I think a smash mouth approach works better. Hit them hard, line up quick and smash them again. Do it repeatedly. Then play action off of that. Sounds good to me.

I would find it hard to blame Forsett's downfall simply on his injury which was an arm injury anyway. Maybe his build and the pounding of being the primary back for a full season did really take a lot out of him. It'll be interesting to see if he gets another chance and how he makes out with another team in the future.

He's a good guy, and talented player. Glad he at least made some money while he was here. His career is likely done, so wish him the best in his next career.

He really helped us transition from Rice when we needed it most and even earned a Pro Bowl spot, he's had a solid 9 year career.

Hell of a great guy and was nothing but class when he was here. Wish he was able to finish his career in Baltimore but, unfortunately we no longer have a need for him. Nothing but best wishes to him.

Couldn't agree more.  I think he is definitely a guy that got the most out of his talent.  I have a feeling he would make a great coach if he wanted to pursue that.!

Forsett's career is likely done at this point, but he has a great career and story to teach young kids about hard work pays off.  It certainly paid off when he was in Baltimore.  The guy is nothing but class and respect, on or off the field.  I wish him the best.

PS: I'd like the idea about him pathing himself into coaching career, but it's up to him........

Seeing on Twitter that Denver claimed him.  Reuniting with Kubiak.

That would be a good place for him.

Just saw that as well, but Denver's OL is pretty horrible this year and they've got a tough schedule ahead. It makes sense from a familiarity and scheme fit.

Why not pick him back up and put him on Ravens practice squad.

Because you can't .

If there is anyone that can help him have one more good season, it's Kubiak.

Right, for a number of reasons.

1) Forsett is not eligible. Players on the practice squad are guys with little to no NFL experience (being on the active roster for no more than 6 games in a season for 2 seasons). If you go over that mark, I think the cut off is 8 games on active squad for one season only, then next season the team has to keep 53 on the active roster for the full season.

2) The way the OP stated it would be like the reverse of how the PS works. Teams can sign players from your PS only if they are going to keep them on their active roster. You can't pluck a guy away from another team's active roster and then put them on your PS.

I just read an article that states he's basically going to be in a 50/50 situation in Denver since their rookie was ineffective and their other back got hurt, which is why they got Forsett anyway. I agree the best move for him to salvage anything for his career would be in Denver where he already knows the coach and system. He might be able to catch on for a few more years as a 3rd down/change of pace back. Kevin Faulk for NE made a career out of being only that.
