2016 Week 13 Other Games Discussion

188 posts in this topic

Week 13 begins with a battle for NFC Supremecy as the final playoff stretch kicks off. Heading into this week, key games will determine the eventual outcome of the 2016 Playoffs, Draft and which coaches will be fired on Black Monday.

Cowboys @ Vikings: For what looked to be a battle for the number one seed in the NFC, has now turned into Minnesota needing a win to cling on to hope of reclaiming the NFC North from the Lions. Can the Vikings get back on track or will Dallas' best start extend to 11-1 and possibily clinch a playoff spot?

Chiefs @ Falcons: The Chiefs are coming off a huge OT victory over the Broncos and look to slow down the high octane Atlanta offense as they look to take the AFC West from the Raiders in the final weeks. Meanwhile, the Bucs are putting pressure on the Falcons for the NFC South and another loss will only close the gap in that race.

Lions @ Saints: How long can you sustain 4th quarter comebacks? Will this week be the week that it catches up to the Lions as they face a Saints team who put up 49 points against the Rams? The Lions have the inside the track to the NFC North, but can they keep winning or will the Saints derail the Lions for one week?

Rams @ Patriots: If Drew Brees and co put up 49 points, what will the Brady Bunch do to the Rams defense? Another easy win for the Patriots, before we give them a real challenge.

Broncos @ Jaguars: Broncos get a easy bounce back victory here after suffering a OT loss to the Chiefs. Just another nail in Gus Bradley's coffin as Malik Jackson faces his former team who is doing quite well without him.

Texans @ Packers: The Green Bay Packers found some life against the Eagles last Monday, can they continue gaining momentum late in the year to make a late push for the NFC North? Can the Texans pull off the upset and extend their lead in the AFC South or will they continue to falter opening the division to the Titans and Colts?

Eagles @ Bengals: The Bengals playoff hopes are pretty much dead, the Eagles meanwhile look to try to make a run at a wild card spot in the NFC. Will Carson Wentz and co rebound after being shutdown by Green Bay or will Cincy rebound and defeat the Eagles as Marvin Lewis' time is running out.

49ers @ Bears: This is a game full of draft implications. The 49ers and Bears are in a dead lock with the Jaguars for picks 2-4 in the 2017 Draft. If the 49ers win, all three teams will be in a 2-10 dead lock fighting for a top five position in the draft. Will Matt Barkley lead the Bears to their new franchise QB or will Kaepernick sink the 49ers hopes of finding a real franchise QB?

Bills @ Raiders: The Raiders are trying to get home field advantage from the Patriots, while the Bills make a late push for a AFC Wild Card spot. Will the Bills stun the Raiders who may or may not have Derek Carr at full strength. Will Carr's finger injury linger and affect his ability to play at 100%? Can Rex Ryan get a huge west coast victory and take out a potential top AFC team?

Giants @ Steelers: A classic battle from the 2004 QB Draft Class, Eli Manning vs Big Ben. Will the Giants go into Pittsburgh and shutdown Big Ben and Antonio Brown or will the Steelers offense crack the new Giants defense? Both teams are battling for their division title as the Giants look to keep up with the Cowboys, while the Steelers look to stay tied in the AFC North.

Redskins @ Cardinals: Kirk Cousins continues to put the Redskins on the path to the playoffs, while the Arizona Cardinals are looking to salvage their season as they are basically eliminated from playoff contention. If the Redskins win, I wouldn't be surprised to see Seattle be in a clinching position for week 14 to be the first to clinch their division title.

Buccaneers @ Chargers: The Bucs are for real, and this week they play the Chargers who are trying to make some waves late to try to put their name into the AFC West Wild Card battle. A win by the Bucs and loss by the Falcons will put them in a 7-5 tie atop the NFC South in the closing weeks of the season.

Panthers @ Seahawks: Let's see... a Primetime game in Seattle, what can go wrong? For the Panthers, they are looking for their third straight win over the Seahawks dating back to last year. Seattle looks to snap that two game winning streak as the Seahawks look to be in prime position to win the NFC West in the next couple weeks.

Colts @ Jets: While the NFL is figuring out the TV stuff, can we please make MNF flexible in any way possible? Does anyone think people will tune to see the Colts take on the Jets? Colts look to remain in the hunt of the AFC South while the Jets are looking to play spoiler down the stretch to potential playoff teams.

I'm glad the schedule makers were smart enough to schedule 2 teams that played on Thanksgiving, so both teams have "normal" rest for a change for a Thursday night game.  Some of those Thursday night games are pretty sloppy with teams on short rest.

Colts at Jets are a joke for MNF......if they care about their pocket, they should flex out that match up or otherwise black out on Monday...

Giants at Pittsburgh is good game...hopefully the Giants help us...

Unfortunately, they currently can't flex Monday night games, just Sunday night games...I wouldn't be surprised if that is something that is discussed for future years.

NFL Flexible Scheduling 101

  • Begins Sunday of Week 5
  • In effect during Weeks 5-17
  • Up to 2 games may be flexed into Sunday Night between Weeks 5-10
  • Only Sunday afternoon games are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window.
  • The game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night during flex weeks will be listed at 8:15 p.m. ET.
  • The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.
  • No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.
  • The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:25 p.m. ET.
  • Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.
  • The NBC Sunday night time slot in "flex" weeks will list the game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.
  • Fans and ticket holders must be aware that NFL games in flex weeks are subject to change 12 days in advance (6 days in Week 17) and should plan accordingly.
  • NFL schedules all games.
  • Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night.

I don't think the inflexibility of Monday night games is necessarily a bad thing. Just imagine if you purchases tickets and had to reschedule for that. A few hours difference is bad enough if you're traveling; but an entire day would wreck your flight plans.

Hate to hear something like this, and definitely get well soon Mike Zimmer. He will not be coaching the Vikings tonight due to emergency eye surgery to repair a detached retina. Special Teams Coordinator Mike Priefer will take over Head Coaching Duties.

Questionable pi on Patterson, Elliott fumbled and it was called Vikings rocovery but overturned to Dallas . It didn't look like possession to me.

dallas holding on every play , although they finally did call one offensive holding.

The Cowboys board was furious

The funny thing is they probably complain that the Seahawks DBs regularly get away with illegal contact. Or that the Broncos WRs used illegal picks on every other play when they were lighting it up a couple of years ago.

I saw one person who tried to explain why it was holding, but all these people were just like, "It's not illegal to manhandle a puny linebacker."

They'd be such a likeable side if not for the fans.

I went to their board to see if there were any Ravens related threads just to see what was said. I ventured into the game day thread and those fans are truly obnoxious.

I really liked Elliot and Prescott coming out. Loved Frederick (thought he was overdrafted, but really loved him) and Martin. Was a huge fan of Mo Claiborne. They have a lot of guys I like, but damn, those fans just kill it for me.

Agreed. They are almost the Patriots of the NFC for me. While I don't hate the team, their fans on the other hand (plus the media worship) make it hard for me to not dislike them.

So the Vikings are beating the Dallas Cowboys on Field Goals in a low scoring 9-7 affair.

Welp, that TD helps me in fantasy quite a bit so... Go Dez!!!

I benched him today after much umming and ahhing. I told a door-to-door fraudster salesman I wasn't interested in his overpriced crap on dubious payment plans only to come back and see I'd missed a Dez TD.

What a day.
