[News] Late For Work 11/28: Internet Practically Drooling Over Justin Tucker; 6 Ravens-Bengals Takeaways

45 posts in this topic

I hope everyone remembers these great wins by Tucker because he is human and he will miss one. The game should never get down to his leg anyway with amount of money spent on offense.

I dunno how any Ravnes-fans aren't just sick of two things said aftear just about every single game:
- the offense needs to start playing better
- the number of penalties must go down...

... and then NOTHING happens in either department. I haven't seen an inch of development from the O throughout the season, ergo I see no sensible reason to expect that all of a sudden they'll start functioning and playing better. ANY game in the remainder of the season where the O scores over 20 points will be a bonus - but frankly, I don't necessarily see that. This is an O which constantly plays mediocre at best, and completely ineffective at times. This season we'll go exactly as far as the D and Tucker take us. Not an inch further. And hopefully, the first day we're out of the race Norv Turner gets a phone call from Ozzie...

As for the penalties, it seems to be a constant thing of the Harbaugh-era. I'm sick and tired of Harbaugh stand in front of the mic after every game and declares that the stupid and unnecessary penalties must be eliminated - because I know what is gouing to happen: nothing. The next week we are gonna see the same boneheaded and unnecessary penalties giving second chances for the opponent, or giving away great plays from our team...

At this point I see a coaching stuff which is largely incapable - or reluctant - to address issues that have been present for long. One which seems reluctant to make quick in-game adjustments.

Sorry, but I still can't see one single game on our remaining schedule I could honestly say we are the favourites of. No, not even the Dolphins game. I don't say we are gonna win no more games - but we won't be the favourites.

And this time we cannot even blame it on the injury bug like last season... No, this time it's more than blatantly obvious that something malfunctions on the O big time. Something that probably needs some major intervention, not just minor tweakings.

I think a good OC would be a great start.

First, burn that playbook so a new OC can't use it like last time.

Where's all the people on this web site who were screaming for the Raven's to get rid of Doom because he was injured? Still think he can't play? Sure looks like he's got some gas in the tank to me...

... and there is no way he was in total game shape yesterday. I think as the weeks go on, as long as he doesn't suffer a set-back or other limiting injury, he will start getting his timing and stamina back up and could be fresh to finish out the season.

Judon has been a nice surprise for us, but we need Doom now to get this pass rush up to what it needs to be.

Top offensive grades:
OT Rick Wagnericon-article-link.gif, 84.6
QB Joe Flacco, 81.6
C Jeremy Zuttahicon-article-link.gif, 81.2
FB Kyle Juszczykicon-article-link.gif, 79.9
OG Vladimir Ducasseicon-article-link.gif, 76.2

So nice to see 3 offensive linemen on the list, especially Zuttah who has been getting slammed by fans. (and Yanda's note even one of them)

Top defensive grades:
S Eric Weddleicon-article-link.gif, 80.8
ILB CJ Mosley, 80.0
S Lardarius Webbicon-article-link.gif, 78.4
OLB Elvis Dumervilicon-article-link.gif, 77.9
NT Brandon Williamsicon-article-link.gif, 77.3

Glad to see Doom back.  Plus, also good to see Webb up there.  He seems to get a lot of unjustified criticism from fans.  He hasn't been making spectacular plays, but I think he has been playing a lot more solid than many fans believe.

I don't see how most of the offensive line can have positive rating when Joe had very little time and was running for his life half the time. Those PFF grades have very little meaning.

Because he wasn't running for his life most of the game. I'm not 100% what the scores will be, but when FilmStudy posts his results, I'll bet that Joe was protected overall pretty well yesterday. Definitely though it was one of the better pass blocking jobs the line has put together this season.

Actually thought they struggled in run blocking quite heavily. Its usually the reverse.

Tucker is the best player on our team, bar none. We would be nowhere without him. Still waiting for Flacco to get his head out of his behind and play more than one good series. The ineptitude of the offense starts with him. Three and outs in the fourth quarter are unacceptable. Why in the world do we always throw short of the marker on third down? It is just plain stupid and drives me insane. Good to see Dumervil make a play and Suggs get in the backfield. All too often Andy Dalton had way too much time still. Young is a star in the making at corner. He plays tough, close, not like most of the Ravens who play 10 yards or more off of the receiver. Perriman makes one catch a game then disappears. Great catch though.

For the millionth time, 100% of the good offenses in this league throw short of the first down marker and try to get YAC on a weekly basis in this league.

Tom Brady has made a hefty living off such plays.

And that is because the corners will allow the short pass.  They back up to the 1st-down line, then pounce.

The difference is, Tom Brady changes everything at the line. He can actually read the defense and know what they're doing and their tendencies. Which comes from studying film. Flacco doesn't have that in him. Flacco can throw all the short passes he wants, it's not going to be the same as Tom Brady's short passes because he knows what the defense is trying to do,so he audibles his WR to the spot.

Not really true. He's seeing the same thing every other QB is seeing... a bunch of defenders defending the line to gain. Doesn't even take film study to know that's where the defenses focus is.

You're confusing the passes he does on 1st and 2nd down with what he does on 3rd down. They're not the same. Totally different defensive schemes with totally different objectives.

If Tucker can do this for his eniter carrer does he have a chance at the Hall of Fame? I know he will not be bale to make these long ones late in his carrer at the rate is now but I think he has a legit chance at the Hall if he does have a long carrer.

ESPN’s Jamison Hensley: “The Dallas Cowboys have Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. The New England Patriots have Tom Brady. And the Seattle Seahawks have Russell Wilson. For the Baltimore Ravens, the player who continually comes through time and time again is Justin Tucker.

Jamison, Russell Wilson does not belong in the same conversation as Justin Tucker. Russell is garbage

It is rare for kickers and punters to make it to the Hall of Fame. As it stands, there are just 3 kickers and 1 punter presently inducted during the NFL's 96 years of existence.
