[News] Intentional Safety Was Even Better Than Super Bowl Trick ... In Execution

16 posts in this topic

The Ravens ran out the clock by intentionally holding Bengals players and Sam Koch stepping out of bounds for a purposeful safety. It's the second time they ran the play under Head Coach John Harbaugh, with the other being in Super Bowl XLVII.

I was surprised they took the DOG penalty there with 2 timeouts in the bag. I suppose moving 5 yards closer to the endzone was part of the calculus though; if so, they really thought that thing out! Fun way to seal the game.

The NFL needs to stop this garbage. Rewarding a team for intentionally committing penalties is ridiculous. They should also stop this poor sportsmanship crap where coaches call time outs at the time the field goal kicker is kicking. It is just asinine that the NFL doesn't address these issues.

That was a true Belichick play if ever I've seen one and part of the reason he recommended Harbs for the job.

That was a fun game to watch all the way through. Judon with his pass blocks, Doom with his strip sacks, Tuck with his FG record, and the final play was the grand finale. Good stuff!

This play will be changed by the rules committee next season. Regarding the time outs, if you have them you can call them. That plan, "Icing The Kicker" will always be part of the game.

Because these are obvious non issues to majority of NFL fans, coaches, players and commissioner

You must have been drinking or going to the bathroom, or just blinking whenever the offense took the field, because there was nothing fun about that except the first drive. ;)

I don't like this play--sooner or later the player being held is going to swing at the opponent & we'll have an all out brawl on the field.

Do you also have a problem when an offensive team kneels to run the clock out on the opponent? It's a game, and we used a bit of gamesmanship to win it.

Chill out, enjoy the win, or go somewhere else - please.

The offense didn't play poorly enough to take away from the joy of the four things I mentioned.  We ran the ball well, we had a TD pass.  Not great, but adequate.
