Question for the regular draft forum posters

16 posts in this topic

It seems that some people will post multiple mock draft threads, sometimes having more than one active at a time.  What do you think of limiting each poster to 1 thread for his/her mocks?  He/she can certainly post updates when thoughts/situations change.

Would really like your input on this.

Ya mocks end up getting out of hand come draft season. I think that would be better than having a mock draft thread for everyone to post their mocks. It would be way to hard to follow but I think this idea would work well.

Do you mean each person can start one thread for their own mock or that a thread will be made where all mocks will be posted, I can get behind the latter, that way that thread would still be continually relevant on the default thread organizer of "last reply." I think the former sort of defeats the purpose of receiving feedback because I don't think people would continually return to certain threads to see updates, and thus these new threads would sort of get organized out of relevance once people have gotten a chance to look once.

I don't know, maybe you meant something else by that or there's another way that you intend for that to be done.

One per person.  When an update is posted, it will automatically jump to the top so that people will see that the thread has been updated.

I think one total for mocks would just get way too confusing and have to use too many long quotes (which most of us hate).

Fair enough, I suppose I wouldn't be against it then

I personally don't think having multiple threads is too big of a deal, since most are spread a few months apart. You have the occasional person that goes through a run where they post a few very close together, but for the most part, most people are posting in milestones (after the season, pre/post combine, right before the draft).

Appreciate the feedback.  Keep it coming.  We still have a while until this forum really fires up (I hope).  I'd just like to get a sense of what you all prefer.

I wouldn't mind it being that everyone getting a single thread for them that they have to update when they do another mock. Even a master mock draft thread could be good that everyone uses.

To add in another thought... I think you might have a couple of issues if you have each person with their own thread going forward.

1.  If you add a new mock to the end of the current thread, you'll have people that are still reading the first post without going through the thread, and making comments about that mock.  It would likely work for those that keep up with certain threads, but I know there are a lot of people that come in a lot less sparingly and likely won't have read all of the content before commenting their thoughts.

2.  Now, if you want people to simply update their first post with the most updated mock, your users who keep up with it who would have to go back to the first post and read it.  That's a pain, especially on mobile.  I guess you could have it to where you update the mock on the first post and the most recent post, but again, I think that's a pain for the mobile user.

I don't have strong feelings from the perspective of someone who is posting the mocks.  I do maybe 2 a year so it's not a big deal to me.  From a reader's perspective though, I think one thread adds to the confusion, especially for those who check in more in the mobile format.

As a regular mock poster, I don't mind, I'll settle for what's the best for you mods if you really have any préférence. I can definitely handle it both ways if that's the question.

never understood the fascination about cutting down on threads, i guess in ravens talk during the regular season its the right thing, but the draft forum is a lot less crowded and it really tends to have the same small-ish group of posters with the occasional non-regular poster coming in to drop a comment or 2 about a player who just had a good performance or something like that.

really, the best part to me about the football offseason is the well thought out mock drafts and mock-offseasons, i have a lot of fun posting them and reading them and discussing it, and i feel like having to go back and edit old mock drafts while all the same conversations are present in the same thread it could create a lot of confusion and a mess.

now, when a user posts a new mock, maybe give 2 or 3 days for the old mock thread to wrap up all conversations and then delete it, that is an idea i could get with if you wanna eliminate excess threads. but i know that ive personally done this with a big board thread before, where i go back and change rankings every week or so, and many dont see that its been updated, some people are beginning new conversations on the updated post while others are still stuck on the old discussions, and the thread really becomes a mess. personally not a fan of this idea as i dont think the draft section is problematic at all, its pretty low traffic.

Just to clarify: I don't particularly care how many threads you run in here. I'm trying to find out YOUR preference since every year there are complaints about 2 things-long quotes and redundant threads.

i agree with those 2 things 100%. we need to basically make it against the rules to quote the OP, since a quote-free reply is sort of a response to the OP by default. and yeah redundant threads are, well.. redundant, i wouldnt say a mock draft from a certain user every month or 2 is redundant though

It is always interesting towards the end of the draft season to look back and see how opinions have changed about players. Certainly the quick mocks in succession and quoting the OP make things unbearable when trying to sort through multiple pages of feedback

I think the redundant threads apply much more to the individual player/position threads.

Not that these are exact names you'll find going back, but it often seemed some players were being discussed in 3 different places.  As an example, we probably had a Ronnie Stanley thread, a Ronnie Stanley vs. Laremy Tunsil thread, and a LT thread.  Those were the threads that got annoying.
