[News] Can Ravens Sustain Loss Of Jimmy Smith If Back Injury Lingers?

30 posts in this topic

Rest Smith this week. Wright, Powers and Young need the practice time to show if they can or can't step it up in games and this is the only week to do so. We'll need smith healthy for the rest of the season with Miami, Pats, Phily and the 2nd games against the Squeelers and Cincy. Gotta figure out "Who's playing and who's not" for next year.

No way we rest Smith if he is good enough to go. This is close to a must win!

If Jimmy can go...imo he should!  We lead our division with a 5-5 record tied with Pittsburgh and only 6 games left.  That's a very small window for the Ravens to slip up. We're 3-0 vs AFC North opponents so far and can go up 4-0 with a win over the Bengals Sunday.  Rest him up after that game some  cause then the Dolphins....another AFC team comes to town the following week.

Take your time we need you at %100 if we can't beat the hopeless,A.J. less Bengals then that would be embarrassing. Mind you we at home on our field. We can't possibly blow this opportunity to end the losing streak.

The Ravens are what their record says they are: an average team.

Maybe even slightly below average, actually. I mean- they lost to the JETS for crying out loud, and Jimmy was in that game.

Seriously. Wright is the worst cover corner I've seen on the Ravens ever. Jimmy's the best we've had in at least the last 5 years. The dropoff between the 2 is as big as it gets. Jimmy has to play if he's good to go

I can believe the Ravens don't learn from their mistakes. Webb was the second highest player on this team for years and was hurt over 2/3 of that deal. He did not even play in the SB and now they replaced him with Jimmy his twin. History just repeating itself. That was a stupid contract. Jimmy has had more issue then Webb. If anyone deserves second is Yanda.t

You gotta love the irony here. Jimmy Smith, our best corner, is out. Then A.J., the "Ravens Killer," gets injured. Dalton must still be in tears.

Your kidding right? You could throw 3 touchdowns against this secondary

somehow some way this team needs to improve at cb in the off season.

I said that since Ravens let Cory Graham and Ed Reed walk out the door. 4 years ago.

Without Jimmy, our man coverage suffers to some extent. It's not that the others are bad in it, it's more of when they slip up they tend to get burned. What's really shocking is how bad we are in zone coverage. Every time we have gone to zone coverage this year, the opposition has been able to put together long, sustained scoring drives, much like the boys did last game.

NO! and if ASA JACKSON is his replacement, were screwed! sure wish we kept CAREY WILLIAMS,atleast he was physical at the line, our guys play 10 yards off the receivers!

the DB's are not a good unit with or without Jimmy Smith. Need to dial up some pass rush to cover them.

also, not sure the LB's can cover the short receivers either.

Here we go again talking about our corner situation. Until the front office figures out that they need to invest either some serious money or a high draft pick on a quality corner we will be dealing with the same issues. I've been saying this every year over an over. Our best corner can't stay healthy for a full season so WE NEED TO BRING IN A GOOD CORNER THAT CAN STEP IN FOR HIM WHEN HE GETS HURT!! Smh

if we bring WEBBY up to the line and he stays healthy, that would be the best scenerio.

Agreed. I'm just not so sure how ready Web is to make a switch. Playing safety is much different and he doesn't quite have the same burst he used to. But they did keep Elam so they should make the switch. Web will bring a lot of experience, even if he is just a bit slower.

I hear ya but if Jimmy's back is an issue, Cincy is without a couple starters this week and we need Jimmy at 100% for the rest of the way. Our coaches need to tell our guys to not give a 10yd cushion and we won't have as many plays on us. Our Defensive line needs to step it up again so Wright and company don't have to cover for 30 seconds at a time and we need to eat up the clock by running the ball. We can do without Jimmy for another week if everyone else does their jobs and having Jimmy out for another 3 weeks because he came back too early and tweaked his back would mean Geesh Wright would be in there the rest of the way.

Everyone is failing to mention that if our offense could sustain more drives and not shoot themselves in the feet with penalties, we'd keep the defense fresh. And guys like Wright wouldn't be exposed as the game goes on.

Most NFL football games the average time of possession difference is only about 4minutes. one way or another. Your point is one that I would get behind, in general, that the TEAM as a whole needs to play better. But simply put,Wright is a squad 2 defender. We need a #1 CB to cover #1 NFL WR. in fact we 2 of them. So the Ravens should go get another one if they want to make a run at the playoffs. In fact they blew it, by not getting a CB at the start of the season. Imagine having J Smith and another #1 CB from the start instead of ( Forsett, and lets say Gilmore or Watson or Boyle)

I'd say ASA is probably the worst I've seen..just my opinion.

Not ruled out yet but doubtful and not lookin good. I wonder if green being out makes him feel more comfortable to sit out as opposed to pushing himself and coming back maybe too early? Let's just hope doom is back in form and we can make things easier for the secondary by making that red Ryder run for his life with him and suggs about to pancake him coming at him from both ends .

Signing Wright was bad from the beginning imo. The Chargers and 49ers both released him for the same reasons. He's a good tackler who is awful at covering. ( I think he wanted a big contract fro one of the teams too for some reason lol)
