@jamisonhensley

Nothing imminent with Ravens and CB Morris Claiborne. Sides are still talking.

You know how much we got for spending?

About $10M before all players and draft are taken into account and that's before the details of Pitta's cut are released.

Just creating more room for Weddle's next recruitment: King Dunlap. Hopefully Te'o is next on Weddle's recruiting list.

Wow. Have we ever done that before with an RFA? That's the first from what I recall. I don't remember us doing that in a long time if ever.

Just last year with Chase Ford.

To be the Top Defense in 2017 Ravens need Shutdown Corner. Besides #22 Jimmy Smith, Ravens do not have elite cornerback.  I would like to see Eric DeCosta & Ozzie Newsome to try to make a deal on Patriots CB Malcolm Butler. We know Pat's traded away their 1st rounder to NO, so their first pick will be at #64. I see an opportunity for Ravens here. Could we make a deal to trade our 1st rounder for Butler? Could we make our secondary better than Seahawks or Broncos?

I would be extremely upset if they traded their first round pick for Butler. Butler is good but not that good to considered trading your 16th pick for him. You are also helping the Patriots by giving them a 16th pick being already won the Super Bowl. If we was pick around 29-32 in the end of the first round, l might considered it but as us having a 16th pick no thanks.

I don't see the point in letting the Patriots get 16th pick just for Butler. Not to harp on his skills but if we pick up a CB early in the draft, that's a better scenario than getting Butler with just a possibility of picking up Claiborne either way. As I'm sure you've heard, this is a very deep draft class and we could even afford to take a CB in rounds 1 through maybe even 3 while addressing other needs such as edge, WR, O-line, or just grab a game-breaking BPA in the first round in place of Butler's trade. This proposed trade gives NE 16th pick for a non-upgrade, with us further hurting at other positions. Not to gang up on you and I see that ATM you only have 2 posts, but that's the good thing about the forums I guess. Get to challenge your perspective.

At this point, just give Weddle a job in the front office. I hope we are interested in him, would be a great pickup and cheaper option than Wagner. So... are we going to start collecting former Chargers instead of Texans now?

And our leftovers will be future Lions.

Despite what Hensley said, I think Claiborne signs very soon.

Sounds like the Ravens put out an offer and he's been looking to see if a team will beat the offer. If no team does soon, I bet he caves and join baltimore, which would make me thrilled.

If that happens, what are the odds he survives training camp?

I would really like our defense if we sign him and he can stay healthy.

That's why I still like taking an early CB. Further insure that we don't get torched constantly after even one guy goes down.

We could have a really good team if we nail the draft.

They would need to trade their second as well for that to be even close to feasible

No thanks. Would much rather select our own corner with how deep this class is and hope to land a stud for the next 4-5 years on a rookie deal. The patriots say they aren't- but I've still got a hunch they will trade garropolo to get that first round pick back. Not only did they land Cooks- they will likely move up to pick 12 or so in the first. That will be too much for them to refuse for a backup qb who might leave anyway before Brady's done. Makes too much sense.

We need clear starter next to Jimmy Smith. I don't know if Claiborne is the answer. I think we have plenty of depth CB's, but not a clear Solid Shutdown Corner. And even if we draft talented one, how long before he could make an impact? What we need is someone like Malcolm Butler.

agreeed. make it happen mm!!  16 game starta on the supabowl champs. make it happen!

I think Zach Brown would be a better addition than Barwin. Replace Zach Orr perfectly and was in the Pro bowl last year. 149 tackles, 4 sacks, and 1 int last year and is still a free agent.

And I like Zach Brown over Barwin.  We can't afford both

Well, there are some who believe

1) Ravens select CB in 1st round

2) That CB will have so much talent and grasp on the playbook to become an immediate starter.

3) And also playmaker to make it Pro Bowl.

OK, let's look at the facts

1) How many Ravens  1st rounders turn into  Pro Bowls in last 5-6 years?

2) How many DB's drafted in 1st round made Pro Bowl in their 1st year?

3) Could Ravens draft highly talented CB in 2nd or 3rd round?

So with that in mind, what would be best for the team in 2017?

Let's face the fact, if Ravens want to make a great Playoff run,  they will have to beat New England. Is our secondary better than Atlanta's?

If there is someone who can pick Brady off, it would be a Cornerback  who knows him very well like Malcolm Butler. Or even old man Darelle Reevis.

I don't see why he wouldn't. He's at least been able to play in every season.

But he'll now become part of the Ravens secondary, we all know how that goes.

Not even. A player on a one year tender who may or may not sign because he knows he plays a premium position? That's not going to cost a mid first and mid second.

Here's the deal

Ravens get CB Malcolm Butler

Patsies get Ravens 1st rounder (#16) and the bag of properly inflated footballs.
