In good news, Zrebiec seems to believe Flacco's and Pitta's comments were merely not to throw Marty under the bus.  Let's hope...

What gives me concern is that those comments are on the team's website in front page story. That could very well be the PR machine doing damage control before the news is confirmed that Marty is here to stay for a year. It's all about controlling the narrative. If the team says "Marty's here to stay. We need continuity," it's a good look. Especially with two big names like Joe and Pitta.

As a reporter myself, I think the PR folks are getting ahead of the story. PR messaging frequently reflects internal discussions and goals.

That's what gave me the most worry, but I guess we'll know for sure in the next couple of days.  It's kind of hard for me to believe that the writers would have gotten approval to post that story if it wasn't going to happen.  If we're just talking quotes and tweets, then yeah, it's a little bit more reasonable that he could be fired.  The fact that the front page of the very team we're talking about posted a full story on it with the headline alluding to Marty staying, well...

Well, we also have to consider that this site needs to punch out stories as much as possible and this time of year is extremely slow when you're not in the playoffs.

It's tough.  I'm still of the belief that he'll be gone at some point, but the comments today gave me the first bit of pause in that opinion.

Maybe there waiting for the annual press conference? I thought for sure today I'd wake up to a text message saying Marty is fired

Maybe Harbs will let us know something tomorrow at his presser. I'm guess his presser will start off with.

Today we made the decision to _____ Marty Morningweg.

He either has to be hired or fired because he was only the intern OC not the official one. Back in 2014 they didn't start interviewing guys until the 2nd week of January and Kubes wasn't hired until the 27th. So maybe we're just expecting news too soon?

He could also be demoted either back to quarterback coach or to some other area on the coaching staff.

I just dont see how Harbs can keep Marty as OC if he is truly wanting to get back to running the ball. Its obvious Marty is more geared to a 65-35 ratio when it comes to the way he runs his offense. I get that he may want to get some kind of continuity but its apparent Marty is not the guy for us. He has to go imo, the ravens need to get back to a more balanced offense in order for Flacco to lead the offense into the post season. Ill personally be very dissapointed if Marty is still the OC heading into next season.

Does anyone know when the state of the team address is to be scheduled? I haven't seen anything on it yet.

A week from today.  I don't believe they've given a time yet, or if they have, I haven't seen it.

No problem.  Obviously not as informative, but Harbaugh also has a press conference at 11 today.

I'm kind of on this train of thought.

I won't read too much into it... but i do see the opinion of the PR tie in. Though at this early juncture, I think it's more of to set the narrative that he could return, and prepare fans for that possibility... not that he will return.

Like anything else -- I think the job he's done will be evaluated, and he'll be given the first opportunity to convince Harbs and Ozzie that he deserves a 2nd year. But, i dont think they'll stop the search there. Harbs has shown time and again that he'll consider alternate possibilities. And, with some decent options on the market that arent likely to receive HC opportunities right away (McCoy, Whisenhunt, Kelly, Dennison, etc...) I think he'll turn over every stone possible.

I like the idea of McCoy. I flip flop on the idea of Kelly, but dont think he'd want to be an OC. Dennison - I'd prefer if we could bring him in as a QB coach at first. He's worked with Flacco, and had his mechanics down pretty solid.

I'm not even necessarily opposed to Marty coming back - I just want to see due diligence. For example, if we could get Dennison in as QB Coach and Offensive Assistant to implement Kubes run game, and keep Marty as the playcaller/OC I'd be fine with something like that.

I mean... it's not like Marty is hard-wired, and not physically or mentally capable of calling a more balanced attack. He could be brought back with the task of calling or creating a more balanced offense. i.e. Harbs takes more control of the overall scheme/philosophy and Marty comes back as the OC/playcaller taking guidance from Harbs.

That might even make more sense than bringing in someone fresh, as Harbs would feel he has more control over Marty and his direction than someone brand new. Marty's gotta know after his performance that if he's brought back the line is razor thin to begin with... so he'd be alot more likely to take direction.

Yeah, I think they just snagged a couple of quotes from Flacco on a topic he'd never been asked about before and put an article together. After all, this is the biggest hotbed issue for the Ravens at the moment.

I think more than likely, the Ravens will do what a lot of jobs do. Do an interview process where the inside man may have an advantage until someone outside has credentials that just blow you away.

Well Marty's coming back.

Let's get Dennison to come be Joe's QB Coach and call it a day. I'd be totally fine with that.

--

Honestly, if Marty builds his offense to resemble what we did in the Pittsburgh game -- I'm totally fine with it. It was the most balanced, and effective offensive performance of the year. It's how we should be attacking every team as our base philosophy.

And Marty is staying.  What an awful decision.  I'm genuinely angry with this team right now.

Worst decision we could have made. I can agree there.

Marty and Dean stay, so continuity it is. We need to get better players to make up for the average to below average coordinators.
