Candidates to be the next OC

712 posts in this topic

Marty is not terrible, but not what we need going forward. He tends to abandon the run too often and is a little pass happy, which was also a symptom of his with Andy Reid. He's better than Trestman, but I don't think he's the long term answer. And I think that moving away from a Gary Kubiak west coast offense wouldn't be a terrible idea.. I mean, only himself and Kyle Shannahan seem capable of running it correctly. I just don't see us keeping Marty there. It's not working.

Sadly, there aren't too many good names avaliable so I've thought up some ideas.

Likely Candidates

Thomas Hammock(in House Promotion)-Current RB coach. And a pretty good RB coach as well. Helping out backs with pass pro, etc. Talented guy. Was a co-offensive coordinator at Univerisity of Minnesota for years. Most likely replacement. Would in all likelihood keep the playbook and call more zone running schemes.

Bobby Wagner- WR Coach. Understands the ins and outs of the nfl game, and how offenses work. Never had experience as a playcaller but like Hammock is promising.

Mike McCoy- Since the Chargers are likely to purge, he's who I bet my money on us getting. He made a Tim Tebow offense work(somehow) with an emphasis on a strong rushing attack and he revived Willis McGahee's career. He's an ideal hire, and honestly would want to see him here.

Ken Wisenhunt- I know he was just rehired, but in all likelihood the Chargers are going to Purge. And if McCoy is gone, so is he. Wisenhunt has had experience within the division and the organization and is a historically good playcaller. He helped the chargers have a bounce back season after a historically terrible one, and we know what we are getting with him.

Wildcard candidates(possible. This is where Kubiak was for me).

Hue Jackson-The Cleveland Browns are the skid marks of the NFL and will be until ownership changes and they figure out what the hell they are doing. Meaning I think there's as possibility they fired Jackson in spite of him not being a terrible coach/the reason for their problems. He's a proven offensive coordinator and has experience with Flacco.

Pep Hamilton: Currently serves as the assistant head coach and QB coach of the Browns. Was wrongly fired from Indy(not his fault that they had no oline) and is not a bad playcaller. Knows the division, and probably wants to get the hell out of Cleveland.

Greg Roman- I'd personally hate this move, but we've never seen what he can do with you know, a pass first QB that's not named Alex Smith. He's a talented playcaller who has a heavy focus on the run game with experience in the organization. People blame him for Kaepernick, but Kaepernick is just terrible. Was recently fired, for a good reason, and I hope to hell we do not hire him.

Unlikely/Dream

Rick Dennison-Currently the "Offensive coordinator(we all know Kubiak does a lot of that)" in denver. Would never leave Gary Kubiak.

Sean Payton-If the Saints are dumb enough to fire him he's most likely going to be a HC elsewhere and make defenses pay. We'd have to fire Harbaugh in order to get Payton.

Josh McDaniels-Again, would have to replace Harbaugh and there's no way in hell he's fired this season. And there's no way in hell we hire him as a HC.

I will wait until the offseason to even think about this topic...you never know what might happen before then...what if Marty gets this offense going and we have a deep playoff run?

When we are eliminated or the season is over....only then will I start thinking about next year.

WE'RE LEADING OUR DIVISION!  Let's focus on THIS year!

Sure. Let's set our offense back even further.

I would hop on the fire harbaugh train if this happened

Well you had one of the best "QB whisperer" that succeeded with bunch of QBs and we got rid of him after 2season.

We now have a history of scapegoating several OCs.   Good luck trying to find 'that perfect prince' for Joe Flacco.

When the "QB whisperer" abandons the run completely and makes terrible calls sorry, it's not on Flacco.

Just spout your usual nonsensical Flacco hating as per normal.

Btw. Flacco was pretty good under Kubiak too. "But Kubiak makes all QBs look good". Not true. Trevor Seimian looks meh right now, and so did Osiwiliier. So stop it.

I'm not sure 5 games is enough to judge nor am I convinced Marty isn't the guy, especially starting up in the middle of a season with a busted up O line. We showed some good imagination at the start of the Dallas game and could achieve more moving forward. I'd say it's too soon to think about replacing him. At some point the revolving door needs to close!   lol

I like Marty so far with what he has done with the time given.....I just want to see the run game more often....we need to RUN THE BALL

I wouldn't mind grabbing an OC from the Chargers if they purge. Their run game has been very effective this year despite not having a good o-line, and I think both Dixon and West can run the type of plays the Chargers do with Gordon. They also seem to be good at attacking weakspots in a defense.

It will be Hue Jackson, hands down, once he's fired. Nervous Norv Turnover was a good backup QB to Dan Fouts in college but I hope he won't be coming to BMore unless we're looking for more of the same. How 'bout luring Jon Gruden out of retirement? That would be interesting!

Surprised norv turner wasn't mentioned.

I think the game has passed him by. He was a great OC but I don't think we want to go back to the AC.

Unpopular opinion: I'd rather have Sean Payton as head coach and calling the offensive plays instead of having Harbaugh as head coach.

I doubt that's a unpopular opinion.  I'd be more than OK with that... I'm still want Harbaugh

Idk, there's a lot of Harbaugh lovers around here. I think he inherited a good team, not so much built it, and he's not an X's and O's guy, but more of a motivator. I want an offensive genius running this team.

I'm a Harbaugh lover,  but I do belive an offensive minded coach helps develop the offense better,  obviously.   I think that's why Bradley isn't a good fit in Jax,  pagano in indi,  etc...

No college coaches mentioned? I don't follow college so  I wouldn't know where to begin

I keep pointing at Herman, no matter how unlikely that is.

I actually like Marty M. On sunday The Ravens had no choice but to pass the ball more since  they were behind in the second half .

I have always said we are a passing offense.

look at our skill position

outside speed - wallace, perriman , moore

     possession/slot - SSS, aiken , camp

     TE - all receiving te's

RB's - again all receiving type

everything about our offense screams west coast

we pass to set up the run , but it is not working

Harb is not a X/O type of coach

imho we should go HC before an OC

just for the record I think MARTY is ok,

In general, many teams hire a HC with a background in the segment of the game where that team had most recently been struggling.

You think Billick was an offensive genius?

At the time he was hired... of course. I don't even think you could make a case he wasn't viewed as such.

His basis of hiring would be the exact same as Payton's...

Honest question, would you rather have rah-rah Harbaugh as our head coach instead of Sean Peyton who's brilliant at designing offensive schemes?

I hate that John Harbaugh is considered  a rah rah head coach as if he has no intelligence when it comes to defense and offense especially defense since he worked under former Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson and  his  father was a defensive coordinator as well. Sean Peyton is brilliant at designing offensive schemes but does he really fit the AFC North or Joe Flacco ?.
